Do we need Bootstrap now that we have ROM Manager or does "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" do the same thing?
I'm not sure you would want to restore and old file that was based on the old kernel. Seems like it could cause problems. You could do a backup and try it though. If it doesn't work restore back to 2.2

just updated went pretty smooth.
I guess restoring Launcher Pro off of my Titanium Backup was a bad idea. Looks like my phone won't start itself back up now. Makes me sad... time to reflash, I guess. Man, that's such ass. Don't even get the Droid Eye, just the Motorola Logo... Not liking this update so far.
thats odd because tb doesn't restore stuff that deep in the boot process.
On a side note
You can confirm the new bootstrap works. I just got this thing put back together from boot looping after installing DXB after 2.2 so I'm not going first this time

ok so i had a rooted 2.1 and i just jumped in the pool (a little early I'm afraid) and ran the update.zip without doing anything first. I'm sorry I'm more anxious then smart.
I have 2.2 running and everything seems to be ok except root is gone. Everything I have seen so far in relation to get root back seems to be preceded with "if you copied su instead of moving it" I didn't do either.... is there a way to get root back by opening an adb shell and moving su still? if i shell i can see su if i do a:
$ls /system/bin
$ls /system/xbin/ has just a few files but not su
can someone advise if and what to do?

Yes, you must have Droid X Bootstrap installed to use ROM Manager. It handles a lot of boilerplate of setting up the initial recovery.
Step # 3 on the link above should read: "Release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button until an exclamation mark is displayed on the screen."

I had results & process similar to Fabyloso. Using Titanium Backup, I defrosted some of the bloat apps I had frozen, then backed up everything (also with TiBackup). I got some error that started with "E:".... at the beginning of the update, but it continued to crunch along, and it still worked.
FroYo... yummy!
I would try doing a mv of that copy of su and move it to system/xbin.
I'm not sure it would work, but having it in xbin seems to make it work.

I did this exactly now I am stuck with the Motorola logo also did a battery pull and nothing just the M. What now?
Ops should have checked twitter.....is the new one only in market or did he update his website too?

the first part of the instructions you point me to say....

I checked Twitter and found the answer right after I posted.
I've only found Bootstrap 1.0.0.3 in the market. It's only a couple of bucks so I bought it. I'm backing up now.
You need both ones a ROM manager and one is what makes the ROM manager work.
Sorry I can't offer any help, but I can confirm that the battery info is working fine on my 2.2 upgrade. I can click on the battery image and it shows all of the processes and how much battery they have been using.
I was unrooted before today. Rooted with Universalandroot before upgrading to 2.2.
Okay, so here's a question from someone who hasn't started this whole process yet (can't wait to get home and get started). I have a rooted phone, but it's still pretty stock (didn't delete anything) and I haven't installed bootstrap yet. So I have two options on moving forward: 1) I can use the update.zip file (with all of the caveats about moving su, etc), or I can use Clockworkmod.
Any thoughts from folks on the best way to go?

If you are stock, you want to follow the directions to move your SU in to xbin using ADB, then boot into recovery mode and install the update.zip that would be on your sd card. I found it easy to do. You may have to play with the su and superuser.apk once you boot up to gain root access again via Terminal. It's pretty easy to do though, I mean I did it!
