Root [Release] Android 2.2 Froyo for the Droid X

sorry for the noob question and sorry if its been answered already I just couldn't find it: Will we still be able to update to the OTA once its released for the X?

i could be wrong, but I think if the OTA is a newer version than what we have it will update, if it's the same nothing will happen then since you're already running the version.

Well, I can confirm:

1. upgrading to 2.2 works
2. you lose root when you don't move the su
3. you get boot loops when you flash the 2.1-update-1 sbf without clearing the data and cache
4. successful reboot with 2.1-update1 after clearing data and cache

All in this order, about to re-root and try to carry root into 2.2.

ok i flashed my phone back to stock and when it was done i had to reactivate my phone cause i had a blue triangle on my menu bar? has anyone else had this problem? thanks

A couple of questions. If this gets hosed and you have to go back to stock 2.1 using sbf, you lose all of your data, right? If I'm backed up with Titanium, shouldn't be too bad to restore?

Bigger Question though - If this isn't the final release, what's going to happen then the final release comes out? Might we have to wipe our devices to get that to work?

I'm dying to do this, but I really don't want to have to go through a device wipe/full reconfig at any point.

You can restore with Titanium no problem, just make sure to restore system data also.
.
We didn't have to wipe to upgrade just to restore back to 2.1 if something went wrong.

Yes I learned this also, kinda of sucks, flashing the sbf for the fourth time today

Well, sorry for my limited knowledge, but what is sbf? and how do I reinstall the stock 2.1 if I can't get the OTA with this 2.2 download?

The sbf is the firmware package that works with motorola's flashing software.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Scroll a bit.

I used root explorer to move su to /xbin but it got me thinking. RootExplorer can be a very very very dangerous app to mess around with.

Just finished with getting Froyo on mine! I barely did any work. I have over 50 apps and rooted (via easy root) before I began downloading the update.zip.

Downloaded the file through my phone, moved it to SD Card Root through ASTRO, rebooted phone through stock recovery, ran update, and about 5-8 minutes later I'm sitting here enjoying me some delicious Froyo!

All my apps, settings, wallpaper, etc. are all the same. It's as if I just rebooted the phone. Now I just need me some Flash!

Hmm...I followed the instructions on alldroid....verified that su moved to xbin and still lost root....I used terminal emulator to do it...I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

So if I want to run the sbf from 2.2 back to 2.1 what exactly do I have to do?

Wipe data/Factory reset before and after flashing it?
