Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Hey, it's all rooted and I'm to happiness. Now I just need to find a rom that I really like. Thanks for such a great forum. I could not have navigated through this without it.

Eric

well the staff picks in the list aregreat suggestions. try mikg or re-loaded.
I ended up using a rooted stock rom. I tried half a dozen others, but went back to what I've used for 2.5 years. Man, I still dig my phone.

The only glitch is with Google Talk. The email address originally set with my evo was xyxyxyx93@gmail.com.

After the latest re-root, I set the phone to a different gmail account. The gmail app worked great, I set up IMAP accounts and they all sync great. However, I keep getting a phone notif that "Talk Failed to Authenticate". It's trying to authenticate to the original xyxyxyx93@gmail.com email address. I've activated this Google Talk account and enabled "chat" for this account on my laptop.

The error won't go away and I sure hope I don't have to do everything all over again.

Any thoughts?

Eric

I have not rcvd email with the UNLOCKCODE BIN, anyone else have this issue, its been two days,
If you hit the Submit button and received a confirmation, then you should have an email. Check your junk or spam folder. Check the email address you started with in HTC to confirm that's it's correct

Hey, I had to do it twice because of a little mistake on my part.

Hope it works for you.

try going to recovery ad wipe dalvik cache and cache. that usually fixes most error and bugs. if not then try and wipe dalvik cache and cache again and re-flash the rom. it will not wipe data so you should be fine....it could be a bad flash.

i have tried the adb method but kept getting this message "C:\Users\IRIS\Desktop\evo 4g>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."

I wanted to try the PC36IMG method but I wasnt sure if I am supposed to rename the recovery.img file to PC36IMG

then I tried the Andriod flasher and when I ran it kept giving a error message

any clues?

When you are doing the adb method, did you extract the recovery.img file from the .zip and put that in your Android folder? Then run the command from the folder while your phone is plugged into the computer and in fastboot mode (on the bootloader screen)?

yes i did, the EVO4g you below is my folder that i used to put the file in,

C:\Users\IRIS\Desktop\evo 4g>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."

When we move the rom to the card, do i go ahead and move the actual zip folder or extract and then transfer those files? Also when creating the nandriod should X out all the options ?
