Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

I hope all went well with the flash.....Having a new Rom is like having a new phone....Enjoy :D

So true...Actually, I couldn't wait for a response :D so I flashed wiped both caches, and reflashed. Went into my virgin reboot loop, so I just wiped all, then superwiped, and restored from my Nandroid. :)

Two more quick questions:

The guide says I only need one Nandroid backup with wimax, and that future backups don't need it. Why is that, just curious?

In the wipe menu in Smelk recovery, there are Combowipe option called SuperWipe (T+(B,C,D,S)*3) that include wiping the boot. Would that wipe the custom recovery that is installed as well? Or is that the same exact thing that is done when I flash the ZZZVR_Superwipe.zip file...(seems like it)?

its the same as superwipe just built into the recovery is all.

and wimax only needs to be backed up once. keep that nandroid backup someplace safe as there is a very small chance of you loosing it when flashing things (mainly radios). and once it is lost it is lost for good unless you have a nandroid backup with wimax backed up.

wimax does take a bit of room so it is not necessary to back it up always.....but that is up to you.

Can someone help me. I'm trying to unlock the bootloader. I sent the submitted the code on the htcdev website but I didn't get an email back from them. Does it take long? I copied and paste the code from "<<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>" to "<<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>>"
Am I doing something wrong?

No, you are not doing anything wrong. In fact we were just discussing this very issue in this thread:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/679763-root-start.html#post5465515

Others are having issues also:(

yeah i hope HTC steps up and maybe update their servers or obtain some more. since they have gone the way of locking their bootloaders more and more peeps will need the unlocking services......

com'on HTC get with the program......Samsung has now passed you by and you are gonna need something to catch up to them or i might leave you on my next upgrade!!!!!!!

I was able to root the phone flawlessly using this How To and the HTC method! thank you so much.

I have a little question though, how do I get S-Off? I want to flash a ROM that requires that,
or does anyone know of a stock ICS S-On ROM?

thanks!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!
now that you are unlocked you can't use taco root so if you want s-off you will need to use captn's method to get s-off.

And a second welcome to AF!!
What rom requires you to have s-off? Or did I not understand your statement/question correctly?

oh yeah if you have a recovery and the bootloader is unlocked then you do not need to worry about roms and kernels. those all can be flashed with a custom recovery.

the only thing you can't flash is a PC36IMG file that is done through the bootloader. the PC36IMG file is just a name of the file that the phone is programmed to look for. it can be any thing from radios, ruu's(rom update utility), or custom recoveries among others. those you can't do with an unlocked bootloader.

so you are good........ happy flashing:D

Okay thank you! I tried doing a search for S-Off but the forum wouldn't let me.

I'm trying to get this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941455

I already tried CM7 and some other one called ginger dock or something like that, didn't really like any of them. I really liked the ICS froyo ROM on my intercept so I'm trying to get a similar on for the EVO.

wait what phone do you have? that is for the evo 3d and not the evo 4g.

flashing the wrong rom on the wrong phone is not good and will brick your phone most likely.

Oh, please be careful what you flash. That rom in that link is not for the Evo4G. Is that your device?
I'm typing slow and I have a feeling I'm gonna get ninj'd .

Edit: I was right :(

do not be. it is very easy to do. just make sure that you pay attention to what you are flashing. i have seen many bricked phones because of this.

now most of the roms can be found here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html.

try the staff picks. they are great suggestions.

Wow! That is a great thread full of very useful info for sure.
It's as if some robotic humanoid put that together!!
I need to meet this android-ish author!
seriously, its a good one-stop-shop for the Evo!!!

Thanks guys! checking out the ROMs now, I've only ever briked one phone once and was able to fix it with the recovery but I don't want to deal with that again. Luckily this EVO is not my main phone, I just picked it up to play emulators. Got it off a Forum for $15 :)

wow $15!!!!!!

amazing how this beast of a phone has gotten so cheap. when i paid over $250 with a 2 yr contract....LOL

well happy flashing:D

Just flashed .500! looks awesome. AND it has HDMwIn built it, which is what I wanted so much for my emulators :D

It was $15 because it had a cracked screen/digitizer, I was able to buy replacements and other goodies for an extra $20 off Amazon(plus some credit I had saved up.)

It ended up costing me $35 in the end for a refurbished unit basically.

I did everything, and on the final reboot, it it shows a vertical loading bar on the right and when that finishes it says its "checking..PC36IMG.zip" file and then says
"Main version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No"

what do i do now?
