Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Well, tell ya what. Even if you do, lets switch it to one of the best recoveries to have....
First delete any PC36IMG files on your sd card because you will be renaming this download to PC36IMG.zip.
Download this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7zg8qh4ovgfs14b/PC36IMG_ra-supersonic-4.3-smelkus-mason.zip

Rename it to PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sd card.
Be sure not to add an extra .zip to it.
Be sure not to put it in any folder of the sd card.
Otherwise it will not work.
After renaming and putting it on the sd card, turn off the phone.
Boot into bootloader and it will scan for that file and it will find it, then ask you to update. Say yes to update. After updating, select recovery from the bootloader screen. It will bring you to the recovery screen.

Hello! Ive been at this for a couple hours now. I am using the taco method due to the htcdev sit being overloaded or something. I try to register to get the boot unlocker but the connection just keeps timing out.

Anyways, using the taco method all goes as the guide says it should go until step 12. I enter the command and it says " no such file or directory"

I downloaded all the files from the tacoroot guide page. I extracted to the desktop using winrar. I plugin the htc evo to the comp set as disk drive. I open the htc evo which happens to be G drive removable disk. I dragged the flash image and mtd-eng files onto the HTC evo. Made sure that the two files are not in any files or folder but by themselves, beside the regular folders like android secure and lost dir.

I have double and triple checked that while entering commands that the phone is in charge only mode. And that i am entering the commands in the command prompt opened from the android folder I created on the desktop.

I am at a loss and any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

o.k..so its a little sooner:p
First thing is WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!
:D
Second thing is, I assume you get the "#" sign in the command window after step 11
Code:
adb shell
correct?

Then at step 12 after entering this:
Code:
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
it says, "no such file or directory" ? correct?
