Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

No problem.
ok.....
1. Are you entering the command exactly as posted?
2. What size sd card do you have?
3. Very important now---Did step 5 go as posted? The phone must be booted into recovery once and rebooted for this to work.

i am copying and pasting the command directly from the guide

i have the standard 8gb card that comes with the phone

step five goes just like the guide says

the only thing that occurs differently than the guide says is on step 10
when the phone boots it goes to the screen with the red exclamation point and I have to press volum up and volume down plus power to het it to the recovery screen to reboot, the guid doesn't mention this step but in the command prompt it says to do this

hmmmm....
Lets try this.
Enter the command in step 13 to get the phone stable again.
Then run thru it again and when you get to step 10, even tho it is the stock recovery screen (red triangle), leave it there and enter the command at step 10.

And one other thing...when you download the flash_image .zip, just right click on it and choose the "extract all".
I never used winrar.
What version of windows do you have?

I enter the command at step nine, the command prompt says all the developer stuff, then says press the volume buttons with power to reboot, so I do.

I will try now with out doing this

hmmm i did taco root once and i do not remember seeing that option. when you get to that step please post what you see on the screen.

at step five when I go to the recovery menu down below in yellow letters it says

E:Can't open/cache/recovery/command

but the recovery menu is up top so I select reboot system now

in the yellow letters down below it says success rebooting

the phone reboots

i make sure that its charge only, fast boot off, debugging on

i open a command window at my android folder on my desktop

I enter the command at step 7 and the command window says 2kb/s <2129bytes in 1.000s>

I enter the command at step 8 and press enter, the command prompt says nothing and goes down a line with the same C drive location as the android folder

I enter the command at step 9 and a bunch of developer stuff pops up in the command window, then says rebooting into recovery please press volume+, volume- and power at the same time, and reboot the system

I do not do this as we said not to

the phone has rebooted to the red exclamation point screen

I proceed to enter step 10 command, and the command prompt says error device not found.

I am guessing have to press the volume buttons plus power to go any further

ok taco root makes use of the recovery log that is created when you go into the stock recovery. you have to first go into the stock recovery by holding down power+vol up and vol down before you enter the the actual taco root command in step 10.

so what happens again when you go into the bootloader and you select recovery? do you get a red exclamamtion mark? is this where you get the error? i think this is what is holding the whole process up.

right now, i just entered step 9 command and the developer stuf comes into the command prompt and it says to press the vilume buttons plus power to reboot the system

the phone is sitting on the red exclamation point screen

do you want me to press the volume buttons plus power and tell you what it does? Is that what you are asking , or do you want me to reboot the phone and go to the boot loader then to recovery?

ok so I press the volume buttons plus power

the recovery menu pops up on the phone up top in blue with option to

1. reboot system now
2. apply update from sdcard
3. wipe data/factory reset
4. wipe cache partition

down below there are yellow letters that say

"E:can't open /cache/recovery/command"

so you want me to select reboot system now, right?

so down in the yellow letters it says success rebooting

the phone then reboots into the normal htc sense os

so you want me to proceed to step 10 command?
