Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

ok so i went to bootloader selected recovery, volume buttons + power

screen has the blue recovery menu

and the yellow text at the bottom that says

"E: can't open /cache/recovery/command"

I select from the menu to reboot system

the phone reboots to htc sense

I enter into the command prompt the step 9 command, the phone reboots to the exclamation point screen, the command prompt says rebooting into recovery press volume buttons + power and reboot the system

i press the buttons, the recovery menu pops up with the same yellow text at the bottom

i select reboot system now

the phone reboots to htc sense

i recheck to be sure of charge only, fast boot off, debugging on. All are still set right.

I enter into command prompt the step 10 command

the command prompt give the developer stuff then says rebooting into root

the phone goes into a boot loop

the command prompt goes down a line and says the c drive location of my android folder on the desktop

i enter the step 11 command

the command prompt gives the #

I enter the step 12 command

then it says no such file or directory for /sdcard/flash_image

now when i did this previously i went ahead and completed the other 2 commands of step 12

the command prompt never said any thing about daemon

yeah i extracted the flash_image file from the zipped fol;der and dragged it onto the phone right next to the android secure and lost dir folders, the falsh image file was not in any folder of its own

I right click the zip folder ont the desktop, select extract here. the flash_image file pops up on the desktop and I just drag it over to the G drive with is the phone

now when i did this previously i went ahead and completed the other 2 commands of step 12

the command prompt never said any thing about daemon

daemon should start whenever you are doing and adb commands which is what your are doing. if the server did not start successfully then something is not right.

no the first one needs to be done first. can't skip steps like that. are you copying and pasting from the guide to the command window? or are you typing it in?

i was at first typing it in but when it didn't work i started to compy and paste thinking i was putting it in wrong, but same result

so i type into the command prompt

cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image

this time it doesnt say "no such file or directory"

now it just says "not found"

yeah no folders

the flash_image and mtd-eng.img files are by themselves next to the other folders

i've got the #

i've never seen a $ before
