So I do not need to download any of the files that are listed in the HTCdev method?

Will I still have all of my outlook info available?

This is the file that i downloaded for recovery:
*if you have software version 5.07.651.1 download this file:
PC36IMG_AmonRA-v2.3-hausmod_revA.zip *

I rename the whole zip file (which contains 2 files - Android-info.txt and recovery.img) to "PC36IMG" and put it in my Android folder?

o.k...rename the file exactly like this... PC36IMG.zip do not add an extra zip and put on the sd card but not in any folder on sd card.
Power phone off, wait a few moments then hold volume down while pressing power button.
This will bring you to the bootloader screen which will scan and see that file....it will ask you to update...you will say yes...then it will ask you to reboot...you will say no....the choose recovery...which will bring you to your new recovery!!!!!:)
 
Hi again! *waves* So I thought I had found an easier way (by using unrevoked) but it seems that is pretty old. I thought I'd ask here if you guys (or gals) knew if it still worked or not and if not ask if there was any other way that was as easy as it. My phone info:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Build Number: 4.67.651
And I know its Gingerbread though I forgot where I found the info at lol.

Go to this guide. Need to find your hboot version and the guide will tell you how.
Then we can go from there.:D
 
2.18 Locked. So I'm guessing then that the unrevoked program wont work anymore? There are so many out there! I just wanted something quick, easy and simple lol.

Then all you need to do is follow the HTCDEv method which will unlock your bootloader. You will still have s-on but you will be able to flash roms and kernels and get rid of the bloatware crap etc.
As far as unrevoked not working, I do not know about that but that method is used after the Capt method which then gives you total s-off, but is a little more involved. You can always do that later, but for now to have some fun, do the htcdev method.:D

Thanks guys! that worked flawlessly. now to get my flash on.
 
and your first backup should include the radios in the recovery. That makes the nand quite a bit bigger than normal nands and makes it take a bit longer to complete the b/u, but you really only need to b/u the radios in the first nand. And id put that nand in several places so that you dont end up losing it.

By 'radios' do you mean the wimax?
 
yeah, did that per the instructions.... i do have another question though. somewhere i read that you can rename your nandroid backup files. when i look at my backup file, there is a folder, and in that folder is another folder with the files in it. i renamed the first folder. is that the wrong one?
Theoretically, since i made a backup, i should be able to navigate to that backup from hboot in my recovery, and go back to my backup (which is right after my recover dl), but if i go to nandroid restore>folder (which i renamed to Stock071912) >folder (BDS-20120719-1635) i get:
"Restoring: .
Oops... something went wrong!
Please check the recovery log!"

what's up with that?\

Rename like this: Thanks to ocn, as his quote:
one of the things you can do to help keep your nandroid backups organized is to rename them. but in order to do that you have to know where to find them. in amon ra recovery they are found in the nandroid folder that is created on the sd card. in clockwork mod they are found in the clockwork mod folder. for amon ra there is a sub folder that is phone specific. mine is named: HT0CVHL01139. inside this folder is your nandroid backup. it should look like:BDES-20120323-0530.

now to rename them, you can rename them to anything that you like, just do not use any weird symbols and do not use spaces within the name. for me i usually just rename them by deleting the BDES part and insert the name of the rom it belongs to. for instance CM7-20120323-0530 could be a name of one of my nandroid backups. also if you notice the numbers correspond to date and time.

also the folder should not be named. only the BDS file should be renamed.

and when you get the oops message you can move the recovery log to the sd card. the recovery log logs every input and what the recovery is doing line by line. you have to move it immediately because if you exit out of recovery then the log gets erased.

to move the recovery log under advanced in the main menu there should be a move recovery log option select that. once it is moved to the card then you can use either your pc to open it and look what happened or you can also use your phone to do it with a file manager app.
 
adobe reader could not open 'AdbWinApi' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged

Don't open it, leave it zipped and put it in your Android Folder when prompted. Don't worry about adobe reader...it's not used when rooting

Edit: sorry, it's not a .zip file, but dont open it. put in android folder
