Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Yes, the zip, sorry.

But not the rom .zip? Perhaps as ocn said, you have a bad download, or the rom.zip is not on sd?
Should i try a another download? I think i have tried that already.. And other roms. I see everything on my sd card but they have this error:

E:Can't open /sdcard/file.zip
(bad)

Im trying to flash a superwipe and get the same message..

I thought you said you could flash superwipe:thinking:
Are you able to plug your phone into computer and "see" files on your sd card?
Also, are you able to transfer files from computer to phone's sd card?
As of 2 minutes from now, my replies may be delayed as I have to start work now k? But I will check back here to help if possible.:)

hmm,
So, you can see and transfer files from comp to phone....good
You can flash super user...good
You cannot flash any rom...you've tried different rom downloads. correct?
I see you are using Amon ra 2.3 which is good.
Are you at a point where your phone is wiped due to trying to flash a rom, therefore you cannot use your phone due to the fact is it wiped prior to rom flash that you cannot flash?

o.k..this might be a stupid (to me anyways) question, but what steps are you taking when you try to flash MikG? Be specific please, and I only ask so I can find out if anything is funky.:p
go into recovery
make a nandroid backup
select wipe from the main menu and wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data
select flash zip from sdcard
select the mikg.zip

my dalvik cache doesnt wipe though..

o.k....are you s-off or s-on.
If you are s-on, I would try to re-flash the recovery found in the beginning of this forum (guide).
If you are s-off, I can provide a link for a different recovery.
And for future reference, you should be wiping everything, EXCEPT SD CARD, including boot, system, sd-ext, before a rom flash. I wipe 3 times personnally.
I think you are fortunate you have a usable phone because you did not wipe boot and system.
Anyhow, the reason I say reflash recovery is because you said it did not wipe dalvik cache.
But you were wise to make a nandroid and that is excellent!

If I'm not too late in my reply, try to just wipe cache and dalvik because you were having an issue with davlik wipe.
Again, its good you did make a nandroid in case rom.zip does not read.

Wait.. I wipe everything??? accept the sd card? what about sdcard:android_secure, and sdext?
Correct, technically you need not wipe sd-ext, but I do, and yes wipe all except sd card itself, then flash rom. I wipe 3 times....nice and clean before rom flash!:)
Just make a backup first, which you did I believe.:D Backups are your friend.

Edit: I can provide the flashing instructions for MikG if you desire.

Edit again: Here ya go...skip step 4...flashing instructions in post 3

Should i partition my sd card? I have 16 gigs. Should my swap size be 0 or 32??
You can, and you can do it now or later. But now would be a primo time:)
Set swap to 0.
Make sure you save your sd card contents to computer as partitioning will wipe your sd card contents.
Partition to ext 3 for now..you can always go to ext-4 without any data loss later.
Partition size 1024 or 2048...(I have mine set to 2048 but I'm an app hog)

What is the swap size for? Some people say to set it at 32 and some say 0..
