I do recall an issue like this but I need to think of where I saw it.
Try this in the meantime.
Boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot.
(To get into recovery---Turn off phone, wait a few seconds then, while holding volume down button-press power....you will go into bootloader and from there you can select recovery...then wipe ):)
 
Another issue with that I've found is not wiping enough before a rom flash.
Are you wiping everything except sd card?
Personally, I wipe 3 times....some people wipe once, some twice.

I wiped it completely before intall..

I still cant unlock my screen.. Do I have to wipe everything again!?!?!?

Possible...from what I gather from his previous posts, I think he just flashed the rom and the more I think about it, maybe he didn't wipe enough or something?? Or a bad download? :confused:
We shall see....maybe he/she got it resolved:)

So I used this guide because I had hboot 2.18 and used the HTCdev method. I am stuck on this step(everything has completed succesfully up to this point):

"so here is what you will need to do:
1.download android flasher from here:
AF Downloader"


When I click on the AF Downloader link I got a blank grey screen so I cant proceed with rooting my HTC EVO 4G because I cant download AF Downloader

I want to root my phone with a super fast reliable ROM and most importantly need free WiFi hotspot.

Please help as I need to get this done tonight and my contacts back on tonight before work in the morning as its a personal phone that I use heavily for work daily

Thats the link Im going to and I get just a grey background as shown below in the screenshot.. Are you getting this same grey screen?

Correct, I would try the PC36IMG method..I think its easier...not to say Android Flasher is hard, it's not...
If you need the Flasher .zip, I just uploaded it to my dropbox and will link it if needed.
 
I already did the ADB method and was told amon ra 2.3 was installed

Do I need to also do the Android flasher and PC36IMG methods?? Sorry for the confusion, thanks for all your help

EDIT: I installed Google Chrom (was using IE9) and can now download Android Flasher.

Just dont know what to do next after completing ADB Method step. Please advise

Well, that's cool then. If you did the adb method, all the better. Now you have some understanding of adb.
Congrats! You have a custom recovery!
Now flash superuser and stay on stock rom or I can recommend MikG3.11
Use the full wipe version and follow these install instructions..post 3, skip step 4 :D

I'm going to give MikG3.11 a try. How do I do a nandroid backup??
 
Great, I booted into Recovery and doing the Nandroid backup with WiMax now. Will then flash to MikG3.11 next.

How do I get free WiFi Hotspot, does it come working in MikG3.11? Or do a need to find another guide and perform more work to get that working??

Appreciate the help!

MIkG has got it man! I have personally used it.:D
And the wireless tether...:)
Edit: I did have minor issues with the wifi hotspot but I cant remember what it was!?
 
So I did the nandroid backup and then wiped all the items in the MikG3.11 guide but did the SDCard as well as SDEXT and now I see in bold red letters I was not suppose to wipe SD Card.

Does all that mean is I need to pull the SD Card and put in my pc and copy the MikG3.11 rom to it again because it is now blank?

Or did I really make a big mistake and its not that simple to fix before flashing??

Are you still in recovery?
All is not lost except whatever was on your sd card:(
 
So how do I perform the flash?? I unzipped MikG3.11 and copied all the unzipped files to my SD card. I now booted into Recovery and selected Flash zip from sdcard then Choose zip from sdcard then I have Meta-INF and data and system. I dont know what to select from these options??

Thats fine, I backed up everything I wanted to save from my SD card to my PC before starting this entire rooting process.

Just stuck on how to flash MikG3.11??

Leave the rom zipped up. No need to unzip it.
