Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Ok, I think it worked. It rebooted and now Im looking at an animated mikroms screen. Per the guide you linked me to I guess it will take 10 minutes to boot up then I can configure my phone and set my accounts back up?

Do you know if I can use HTC Sync to Sync Outlook Contacts just like with stock phone?

hmmm...sorry, cant help ya there. I neither use htc sync nor Outlook.
My boss somehow used his Outlook with to sync with his google contacts...unrelated perhaps but all my contacts are with google.

Yea, there is a google app you can install on your PC to sync Outlook contacts with Google. I am referring to something a little different. I guess if HTC Sync works with this MikG3.11 ROM then it will work because its one of the HTC Sync options.

Any other ROMS you can recommend that are really stable? Also, do you know anything about getting WiFi hotspot to work?

As far as other roms? Honestly, I do not flash many. Maybe 3 in the last 8 months, first MikG, second was an AOKP rom (don't remember the name--didn't use it long) and lastly now on Decks Reloaded.
Getting wifi hotspot to work? As in, it is not working now? Or just being prepared.:p There is an option in MikG to turn on the hotspot but it's been a while.

Thanks, Im up and running. Loving it so far. I do see the options for Hotspot, thanks.

Where do i get the Decks Reloaded and how do you like that? Better than the MikG3.11 and if so in what way?

For Decks Reloaded, look for the link in my sig in my first post on this page.
Is it better? I think its quicker and smoother.
Don't get me wrong about MikG...it was/is fantastic...especially after I tweaked the fudge out of it to my liking. Just got a little bored of it tho, ya know? Needed a little change, so.....
Saw Decks, thought "looks interesting", flashed it and haven't looked back....waiting for the upcoming update for it:D

just an fyi deck's is an aosp gingerbread rom. aosp stands for android open source project. it is pure android with no sense overlay added. meaning it does not have the sense launcher or any of the widgets associated with sense. the cool thing with aosp is that they are smaller and sometimes faster then sense. you can even change launchers. i really like go launcher.

mikg3.11 is a gingerbread sense rom. it something thing that you are more familiar with as mik(my favorite dev) has kept it as stock as possible. aosp takes some getting used to. i used to be a sense guy. i used to just flashed sense roms. but aosp has grown with me over the years.

give deck's a try and let us know what you think.

I think MikG is a good rom for freshly rooted folks looking for a custom rom to start with. And I only say that because it was my first.
There may be other sense roms that will work also for starters.
Just my opinion:)

yeah when i rooted i flashed the one at the time that everybody liked which was myn's warm 2.2 froyo rom. it was ok for but then i tried cm7 when it first came out and i really hated it. stayed on it for a day and then i nandroid back to what was safe which was myn's warm. i soon discovered mikfroyo and just fell in love with mik's roms. that guy really knows how to develop great roms. as time went y and i learned about the rooting world i went back to cm7 and fell in love with it as no other rom gave me the battery life and performance that it did.

so......yes i agree mikg is a great place to start. but it never hurts to venture out and see what is out there. aosp is not for everyone. but you will never know til you try. just remember to make a nandroid backup before you flash any roms that way if you do not like the new rom you can always go back.

Little off topic...that cm9 papasmurf style rom is catching my eye tho.
I'm not a big flash-a-holic like others. But, until Decks update, I may try that.
:) :)

I wiped my phone again and reflashed the rom to fix it.. Pretty lame, lost everything I had loaded up.. But It has been working fine since!

Thanks guys!

Should have just been able to do a dalvik cache and cache wipe with my no wipe mikg and not lost any data

Yeah.. I haven't been able to get my phone to to wipe dalvik cache, it always says formatting aborted or something like that....

I can't flash a superwipe on my phone either. Still trying to figure these out.

Find it here.
Is it better? In my opinion, yes. It is AOSP vs. MikG which is a sense rom.
Just read the op carefully to understand how to install.
Just remember to make a nandroid first :)
Hard to install? No, it utilizes the Aroma installer which allows you to pick and choose what to install from the rom before you actually "install" it.
If anything is unclear from that site just ask k?:D
Okay.. I'm trying to do Decks Loaded. Do i need to do a nandroid backup in I backed up with my backups app already?

And does my phone need S-OFF for Decks loaded?

If you want to come back to the exact setup like now, do another nandroid in recovery.

You won't need s-off. Flash just like you did MikG

I was able to unlock the bootloader fine, then I attempted the adb command method (I have 4.67.651.3). When I did it it seemed to do it, but when I went to the next step (flash the su) I noticed that when I went into recovery none of the options you mentioned (flash zip from sdcard) showed up, so I assumed the recovery did NOT installed correctly. I then tried to re-install the recovery using ALL three methods and all I get is error/failed messages.
Note: When I try to go into recovery I get the HTC white screen splash, then a black screen with what appears to be the phone icon with a green recycle-like circle that then turns into a red triangle. The only way to get out of that is to remove the battery.
Can you please indicate what it is that I am doing wrong?
I also downloaded the RUU for 4.67.651.3, but that gives me error messages also. I am VERY NEW to this with limited lingo capabilities, so please keep that in mind. Thanks.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what message are you getting exactly? is it the same message for all of them?

the red triangle means that you have not installed a custom recovery yet. what you see is the stock recovery which you do not have access to.

and it is hard to say what you are doing wrong if you do not provide us with some detail as to what you did exactly. and more info you can provide us will help. maybe pick one method and we can guide you thru it.

In the adb method I just tried it again and after typing fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and hitting return I got the following:

sending 'recovery' <3544 KB>...
FAILED <data transfer failure <unknown error>>
finished. total time: 0.010s

What do I need to do?
Thanks in advance

ok so couple of questions:
1.is your phone in fastboot when typing in the commands?
2.do you have the recovery.img file in the android folder?
3.do you have the latest htc sync installed?
