Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

do you have another cable maybe? also try and re-download the recovery.

Changed cable (used my wife's), re-downloaded recovery: Same error

Like I said in my 1st post, when I did it the 1st time a bunch of text flashed in the command screen as if it was doing something, but I did NOT read it, I assumed it installed the recovery and moved on to the next step, I hope this helps. Thanks

PS: Is there a way to go back so I can start again?

Do you have fastboot.exe in the same folder as adb.exe?

unfortunately no. once the bootloader is unlocked, there is no turning back. you are fine. maybe try a different method. try the PC36IMG method to get recovery.

Yes, I have them in the android folder per your instructions. I have:

adb.exe
fastboot.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
recovery.img
Unlock_code.bin

Remember I have 4.67.651.3 if it makes any difference. I noticed in ocnbrze's instructions he has 4.67.651.1
Thanks

I tried it, but Hboot would NOT see the file (step 5 of your instructions) and when I tried with android flasher I would get the same error as adb command

Am I S.O.L?

Did you try my suggestion in post 1577? Wiping cache and dalvik?

I would suggest flashing my no wipe version after wiping dalvik cache & cache.

That should get the lockscreen back up

Possible...from what I gather from his previous posts, I think he just flashed the rom and the more I think about it, maybe he didn't wipe enough or something?? Or a bad download?
We shall see....maybe he/she got it resolved:)

Edit: nvm, his post beat mine

Okay.. I'm trying to do Decks Loaded. Do i need to do a nandroid backup in I backed up with my backups app already?

And does my phone need S-OFF for Decks loaded?

----------------

So I got Desk on my phone! Very nice! Thanks everyone for the help..

But I can't figure out how to change the system fonts? Everything is in italics and I can't stand it.. Lol.. How can I fix this?

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!

the evo has a hard time with 2g cards for some reason. especially with PC36IMG files. try a different card and it should work. also might be the issue with adb as well.

I edited my previous post. the PC36IMG file as well as the superuser zip transferred fine to the card. When you say a different card do you mean a card with more capacity (I may have another 2GB, but not a larger one)? And when you say there might be an issues with the adb, what exactly do you mean and how exactly do I address that issue?

Thanks

You need a card larger than 2gb. The stock was was 8 if you have that laying around

There should be apps on the market that do this. Maybe ROM toolbox?

being on the card is one thing, but having the phone read it on the card is another. not sure why 2g cards do not work on the evos for PC36IMG files but they do.

if you have the original 8g card or any other card besides 2g should be fine. just not a 2g card.

to be honest i'm not sure about adb and the card. i have seen it mentioned over on xda. but i can't seem to find where i read it at the moment.

so i would try and get any card other then the 2g card. now might be a great time to upgrade the card to a higher class card like a class 10 card. i have a patriot 16g class 10 card that is awesome. they are pretty cheap these days.

Thanks. I don't have a bigger card at the moment, so I will get one, try it again and report. Thanks again for all your suggestions.

Just STOLE an 8GB card from my wife's tablet, reformatted it, copied all the folders I had in a backup folder I created before starting with all this and again I am getting the same error....

how did you reformat it? i would have done it thru the phone. and for which method did you try?

I formatted it in the PC before copying the files from my backup folder. I believe I cannot format it from the phone since the files on the card are essential to function since my phone is flashed to Metro PCS.

I tried the adb command method

just format the card thru the phone. and then move those files over after it is formatted. it works better if you have the phone format it. and i would try the PC36IMG method and see.

Ok, and how do I format the card from the phone? In the settings>SD & phone storage all I see is Erase SD card and it does not let me click on it. Thanks

By the way, when they did the Metro flash they actually did a clone of my old phone, if that makes any difference

i do not know too much about metro so i can't be of much help there.

as far as you sd card goes to format it unmount the card in settings and then select erase sd card. then remount the card and move your files back onto the card.

While waiting I tried the PC36IMG method and IT WORKED!!!!!! I did the nandroid backup and I am now copying everything to a backup folder in my PC before I do the superuser flash

Now, after I flash su, am I FULLY rooted? what's this unrevoked root I read about everywhere?

When you say:

2.go into recovery (power off, make sure fastboot is unabled, and then press and hold power+vol down), do you mean fastboot ENABLED or DISABLED?
