Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

I just did and at least it gave me access to the app which I did NOT have before the clear. I can now send messages, but cannot receive them. Thanks

Have you checked that your APN is set to MetroPCS?
You can download APN backup and restore from the store and check your apn settings match those of a Metro phone. I think you can edit it and the restore to your phone and see if that fixes your issue. May or may not work

You had mentioned something about handcent. Perhaps do the same with that app.
Also, in the messaging app, do you have the box that says something like auto retrieve mms? or perhaps it says auto retrieve messages?

I followed This guide:

[GUIDE] Evo 3D on MetroPCS - MMS, internet, 3G speeds! - xda-developers

But It did not work even though it is for an evo 3d (if it makes a difference, then which one do I use?) thanks

I want to root my son's Evo4G but it looks like things have changed since I rooted mine using Revolutionary. My son's phone is 2.18.
I'm trying to use the HTCDev method, definitely more involved than Revolutionary.

Any word on if The good people at unrevoked are going to develop something for this version?

nope:( i doubt that they will work on it for the evo 4g as it is a much older device.

Last time I checked with him the automates HTC dev unlocker was already being ported to other devices, we just had to find a local exploit for the evo

Let me get in touch with my good friend regaw and see where he is on his root port;)

Edit:

Can someone here run this and tell me your results? Althought its probably going to show all patched

X-Ray for Android
Is that akin to an antivirus but scans for malicious apps? Kinda like a norton anti virus but for your phone?
Sounds/looks interesting...but kinda unclear to me.

no this one is different. this one scans the actual android platform running on the phone and checks for any vulnerabilities. kind of cool. not sure if it will find any as the evo's bootloader by now is so locked down. i mean how many ota's has it received? too many. but i would like to know if it can still find any.

When I try to get the identifier token, the cp says waiting for device, and nothing else appears. I have ensured that my phone is in fastboot on the bootloader menu. Any tips?

Welcome here to AF!!
Are you at step 8 of the HTCdev method?
Does your bootloader say fastboot usb?
Is your device still connected? Perhaps the cord needs to be messed with a little.
I assume you entered the command fastboot oem get_identifier_token?:)

do you have the latest htc sync installed? also try and turn off your anit-virus program as well. and to be sure that this is not a hardware issue like a bad usb cable, does you phone hook up to the pc and you can get access to the sd card?

Just installed HTC sync today, antivirus turned off, usb cable checked, and I also used a different cable. Also tried a different computer, same issue.

Is the fastboot_exe in your Android folder? I'm thinking now the answer is yes as you did not get an error about that....
And when you are in fastboot, there should be text on there that says fastboot usb..

new guy here. been studying up on the whole root process for a couple days and have finally felt somewhat confident enough to try. I havent made it past the bootload unlocker. i get to the part where i have to copy and paste the code, you know that code <<<<inbetween these things>>>> anyways, im not sure if im copying and pasting correctly? and i also dont understand where im suppose to paste it. any help would be greatly appreciated. also i am not the most tech savy person so if you explain something pretend you are explaining it to a third grader. hope people are still reading this thread :]
