Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Holy crap this was easy! Well, relatively speaking I guess for a first timer. I have only one tiny tweak to the instructions I'd like to throw out there. I used the TacoRoot method. In step 14, where you indicate the original download needs to be renamed to PC36IMG, I would leave out the bit about adding an extra .zip to the end of the file. That just confused me. Anyone smart enough to be doing any of this stuff has already turned off the default "Hide known extensions" feature in Windows so we can actually see what file extensions we're working with. I mistakenly just named the file PC36IMG without a .zip the first time and got a little stumped. Finally understood I did actually need a .zip at the end and the rest was a piece of cake. Maybe that's just me.

NICE!!!!!!!!
glad it worked for you.

well my only issue about wether to add a .zip or not really depends on how the computer is set up. everyone's is different. for me i left the default settings and my computer does not show extensions. for some like you its different and there will always be people like me. some really do not know that they can change the default settings so......i always have added that little bit.

anyways i'm glad though that you figured it out. now go and get your flash on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Are you here?

1.download amon ra 2.3 from here:
PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
2.extract the file and then go into and move recovery.img file into the android folder you created when unlocking your bootloader.
3.on your phone after you have unlocked your phone you should be in the bootloader menu screen, select the fastboot option
4.on your computer press and hold shift while right clicking the android folder.
5.select open command window here option (windows 7)
6.enter command:

I'm not exactly sure where you are at.
Did you unlock your bootloader already?
And you installed recovery via adb?
Then, I lost you and where you are at.
Sorry....are you doing the Capt method now?

sorry double posted somehow

@sha4000 it would be better to post a screenshot of the command window.

and just to be sure did you extract the files? they need to be extracted and put on the sd card.

bootloader is unlocked and im on step 9 of captain throwbacks guide and yes I did extract the images to the root of my sd card.

If I remember correctly, there was something about an "I" and a "1" being similar.
Make sure your "I" is an "I" and not a "1" or the other way around.....

Edit: I just saw your key was accepted...hmmmm...

Edit: you may have to use the Froyo PC36IMG to get your hboot to 2.10 and then use the unrevoked site but not 100% sure
