Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Yes I did, I replied. I do have it installed, though it was not running. It is now. The only time that the 'fastboot usb' shows up is when I press the up or down button. NOT when I plug in the USB cable.

Oh gosh guys, I think I figured it out. I tried a different USB port. I was using USB 3.0 front panel port. When I switched to a USB 2.0 port the driver install window came up, fastboot devices brings up a serial code and then fastboot.

Oh, that's good to know for future reference! Thanks!
Now you can continue on yes?

Another nub question, which option is the best to install a custom ROM onto the phone, after I have unlocked it?

Well, after you unlock it, you will need to install a custom recovery in order to flash the rom.
Roms are flashed (installed) via recovery. I think that is step 2 in the guide.
And, a little off topic here, this webpage looks very goofy to me right now.

Yes, the webpage does look a bit funky to me as well.

I'm talking about "Step 2 How to get Recovery" is this similar to installing ClockworkMod? I rooted and flashed my GSIII before I broke it, so I'm quasi-familiar with the process. I am just curious if this is a similar idea?

yep you need a recovery. in order to do anything. but for the og evo, cwm does not wipe very well. this will give you amon ra as it is the one i prefer peeps use. both amon ra and smelkus is what most here use.

Have either of you heard of ParanoidAndroid SAGA, it's suppose to put ICS on the phone?

no i do not think that it is for the og evo. you have to be careful on what you flash. if it is a rom that is not designed for the og evo then you can potentially brick the phone. so be careful...now do you have a link for it?

Well that strike rom sure has a fancy boot screen.

yeah a lot of these custom roms have cool boot animations. just an fyi you can make your own if you ever want to. also there are some custom boot animations you can pick if you like as well.

let me know if you are interested and i can give you some links.

Seems I have done something wrong, and I know this isn't the thread to post it in. But It seems that the strike rom is stuck at the boot screen, it's looping. Has been for about 5 minutes now. Know if that is normal and it's just setting up an old phone or did I not flash it correctly?

now when you say looping, does that mean the boot animation is repeating? if that is the case then that is normal.
