Root [ROM] ApeX V2.0.0 Beta (5/3/2011)

So glad to see this thing improve. Been on it since Alpha 1 and it has been very stable for me. I swear that I noticed a speed increase between Alpha and Beta.

One question. My wallpaper will sometimes shrink down to leave black space on the top and bottom of the screen. Then, for some reason that I don't understand, the phone will come out of standby and all is well again.

Hey Fab, a couple things.
Firstly, this ROM is awesome. Thanks so much for your hard work.
I have come across a bug though. Root Explorer won't open - it just force closes each time. I tried mounting the system r/w first but still nothing but force closes.
Also, is the dialer completely themed? It seems like that bottom row is unthemed. Just wanna know cause I don't really like the look of that bottom row.
One more theme issue (that you're probably aware of) - some of the Settings menus are white, and others are black. I'm guessing this is something that is still a work in progress but I just thought I'd bring it to your attention.
Besides that though, everything feels and runs great. Again, thanks for all of your hard work!

I used the one file gingerbread leak. I followed directions including kernel update and parts 1 & 2. When I got to part 2, it hung on boot, which required a battery pull. Once it came up the apex flashing was a good thing.

I am liking the speed and responsiveness, no FCs yet. Had to re-download apps, I'm going to try bouch's explorer.

Thanks Apex, will give you props later today, a sorgham beer on me.

Are there instructions on how to bring some of the blur back? I know there is a mass restore script but the idea of Apex is to get rid of that garbage. I might want to bring back Text Messaging and definitely the Blur Camera and Stickypad widgets. Is there a storage of the APKs and I just need to install them or what?

Thanks guys, loving it so far!

Download the removed apps .zip file that Fab posted. Unzip it and copy any of the APKs that you want to your SD card. Then, on your phone, use Root Explorer or a similar app to move them to /system/app. Long press on them and change the permissions to:

Owner: R+W
Group: R
Other: R

Alternately, you could set the permissions via the terminal by doing:
su
cd /system/app
chmod 644 *.apk

Then reboot.

Note that some apps have dependencies on each other - the stock text messaging app is Conversations.apk, but it also requires BlurEmailEngine.apk to work right - you can refer to my thread for a little more information, and just keep it in mind if you copy an app over and it doesn't work right:

I flashed this last night, and I'm having trouble with the contacts. Every phone number is listed as a note under the contact, instead of being apart of the actual contact. This makes it so my phone doesn't recognize any numbers? I usually use backup assistant for numbers but the google backup has always worked as well. Any ideas other than going in and manually changing every contact?

Worked great! Thanks.

Not sure if this'll help, but I would turn off syncing of contacts for gmail under settings -> accounts

Delete all the accounts, then turn the sync back on and cross my fingers :)

Well, the calendar sync and app drawer issues seemed to fix themselves. No idea how. Anyone know what other removed apks might be connected to blur weather and news widgets? I put them back (and changed permissions appropriately) and they apear in the widget menu, I can even subscribe to news feeds and set cities in weather, but the widgets wont appear. Thanks, all.

Thank you! I deleted all my accounts, then got onto verizon backup assistant online and exported my contacts to my gmail account. I then synced it again and it's all good.

If you guys restore Moto Blur widgets and want them to work, you must also restore Blur Home!

Wish it wasn't so, because that apk is really big and bloaty :(

Just an FYI... the mass restore script is only restoring what you personally add to the restore folder. Pick and choose what you want to add, so it's not really a mass restore. I think what Fab meant by saying mass is that it allows you to add all the Blur back that you want at one time instead of the old way in his toolbox doing it individually.
There is a .zip file containing all of the removed blur apps that you'll unzip and then create your own "restore" folder on your sdcard.

Which version of wireless tether is ok to run? I installed 2.07 from google and when I tried to run it, my internet died and when opening the browser verizon asks me to sign up for their hotspot.

None of them are "OK" anymore, Verizon is cracking down on people tethering without paying for it. If you search you can find a way to bypass it but do so at your own risk.
