Root [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, Kernel: mine] 11/19

[QUOTE Switching back to CM7 today from MIUI... I mean haptic feedback, HDMI almost working, and an OC kernel posted for the new builds. I say YES and THANK YOU TG, Isaac, and Mantera for these beautiful things you have posted for us!!!!!

Did you say an overclock kernel for ticker guy's mod? where would one find that?

Question 1: Some have said Triumph comes rooted out of the box, but I downloaded Gingerbreak to root the Triumph. VERY simple process. You must enable the checkbox to allow "Unknown Sources" in the application settings to be able to install this. Someone else may have a better answer on this one??

Question 2: If you made a back up with CWM, the dated backup file is on your SD Card under the "Clockworkmod" directory. Simply mount your phone to your pc and copy the file from you SD Card onto your computer. Or if you have a microSD adapter use that and just copy the backup file over.

Question 3: To get the ZIP files onto your phone so that you can flash them with CWM, you just need to save the file to your SD Card. Either save them on your pc and transfer them to your SD Card or use your phones web browser to download the file and save it that way. Just be sure you know exactly where the file is so that you can navigate to it once your in CWM. I personally have a folder on my SD Card named "ZIP Installs" and that way when CWM asks me to select update to install I can navigate to that directory and easily find the downloaded zip file.

Question 4: You don't technically have to flash Gtalk unless you want to. Not sure if it's available on Market.. I have never used Gtalk. Many have and will be able to answer this one better.

Question 5: Titanium backup has been a lifesaver for me. The only thing you will need to do, is go to Market and download Titanium Backup. Once you reinstall it, it is instantly able to detect your Titanium Backups on your SD card and it will restore all of your free and paid apps including the apps data onto your phone. If you have backed up settings, it can restore these as well. I had no problem recovering stock backups onto the CM7 ROM. Titanium Backup has saved me hours of time when flashing new ROMS or performing full factory resets.

I have a question on your answer to Question 5. With Titanium backup, after you restore your apps and data, do these apps show back up in the "Installed" section of "My Apps" in the Market? And will I be able to continue to update my apps from the Market?

Yes, they sure do! Huge time saver.

EDIT: Titanium Backup also has a feature called "Market Doctor" on the slim chance a restored app doesn't show up in Market, it will link the app on your phone to Market so you can continue to receive update alerts.

On a side note, I have attached apps to the market that I did not install from Market so that I can get Market updates on them.

Hey! I've stalked this thread a very long time and read every single post. I've searched around other forums a bit also and have a few ?s If you can't tell from the screen name ... 1st time messing with a phone, 1st smartphone in fact. Had to return 3 before I got a good one and have had it for 5 months or so. I came from a cricket flip phone:o. I'm actually happy with stock (don't know any better) and amazed I can surf internet and watch video ON A PHONE! Can't wait to see what CM7 has to offer to make it better. O ya, I'm lucky and was grandfathered into the $25/mo :D. OK on to the ?s.

1. Just to be sure: I don't need to gingerbreak or similar (I think CM7 does it)?

2. I got CWM 5.0.2.3 from OP pg.1 and have a NANDROID backup. How can I save it to my comp? Don't trust my only backup on my phone which could brick/blowup.

3. I saw Minus's Vids (thx by the way) but how do I get the gapps and cm7 onto the phone so I can flash them from CWM? (Maybe include this in vids Minus) I'm just a bit scared messing with my pricey new toy.

4. We need to flash gapps b/c it gives us the market and can't install anything w/o it right? why do we have to flash gtalk? Can't we get it from the market after booting into CM7?

5. Titanium backup: this will let me restore my settings and apps after I move from Stock to CM7? Or do I have to re-download all my apps? Or is there something else?

6. @ Ticker (and other smart ones), are you using anything for protection or to optimize performance...(on the phone I mean:o) like juicedefender anti virus or anything or is CM7 good to go as is?

HUGE thx @ Ticker, Isaac, Minus n I know I'm missing some but thx everyone. Can't wait! I'm heading to dinner, charging my phone and when I'm back hopefully w/ ya'lls help I can wrap this cm7 install up tonight! Thanks for the hand holding.

Technically you can put CWM on your phone without rooting it, and CM7 is rooted already so you don't have to do that. Most people did it in smaller steps though. You can put your phone in download mode and change the recover .img without it being rooted.

You can also transfer your files using the phone as a USB mass storage device, instead of popping the SD card in an out all the time, but they really both do the same thing in slightly different ways. Just make a folder on your SD card called ROMS (or whatever you want to call it) and save them there to flash from. You can copy the nandroid files the same way, just to your computer instead of from it.

You don't NEED antivirus or juice defender, but you can use them if you want (I use JD sometimes, but not sure it really makes much difference with my phone habits.). Some people will claim that you need some sort of AV, and you might, but chances are pretty slim that it is needed (unless you download a bunch of .apks or whatever from some shady sites, and chances are they will steal your info instead of giving you a virus anyway).

Titanium Backup is pretty nice (and you can copy those backups to you computer as well). I have not ever had it make my apps not show in the market.

This ROM is really solid (unless you need HDMI), most issues people have are from user error, and it seems like you are checking things first before you jump in, which is good!

GOOD LUCK!

Another question, the music player, when launched from the browser or file manager, won't multitask. E.g. if i click a mp3 file within a browser, the music player would pay the mp3. But once I exit the browser (e.g. click home), the music would stop.

The behavior on the stock rom is different, the music would continue to play, any idea or suggestion?

Thanks!

Are you sure stock ROM does the same thing on the same webpage? As I understand it, any flash-based player will automatically shut off when you aren't directly viewing that website. This makes sense as flash can be a resource hog, and you don't want random media spewing from a background app. I have seen this behavior across multiple ROMs and phones.

I guess using the term "VOIP" might be a bit misleading since it's not only over the net. I can call any phone number with it and be called by any number. (when it works)

i think you should read up on Google Voice then... So can i.

don't confuse it with google talk.

you won't get a prompt if you have it set to always use. it just says it is at the top.

try putting it on "always ask"
Tried the following steps but still unable to set GV as default dialer:

-Reboot into Recovery
-Wipe Cache Partition
-format /system
-Wipe Davlik Cache
-Flashed 11/6 Rom
-Flashed Gapps
-Rebooted
-Made a test call but no luck

:-/

I have it installed and can send/receive texts with no problems. Also, if someone calls my GV # my Triumph rings and I can pick it up with no issue. This is frustrating! :o

Thanks for all of your help so far though, it's appreciated.

Can someone please try to explain clearly to me the SCREEN DIM LEVEL settings in the Automatic Backlight section of Cyanogen/Display/
I would appreciate it.

I just set up SIP calling on Callcentric on their "Free" plan - it works.

So why not use the built-in SIP client on CM7 again?

thanks ...your right it does say oc kernel

actually I was just trying to be helpful, I found the post and posted the link. the comment was more for anyone who might just see the link and think they could run the O C kernal at full bore and not take a chance at frying their cpu. I'm sorry you took it as an attack on you
