Root [ROM] CM7 TG-Reloaded (Final: 03-25)

Clear Maps data in Manage Applications. That should stop it. If it keeps running just purchqse Autorun Manager from the market and disable Maps recievers. I disable every single reciever from every app i have and they never start up automatically anymore unless i open it. I get great battery life.

Thanks for that tip. I was wondering if there was an app to do that. I revoked the startup permission for some apps but they were still starting up.

Android uses RAM differently than most other OS's do. Having stuff cached isn't bad, and it actually helps you multitask better.

After doing my 75 hour off power battery test on TG 0.8 + TheOC I wanted to try out Whyzor's work.

Alternate Launchers

The 1/7 version of this ROM was an interesting diversion for me, since I hadn't looked at any other Android Launchers. After a lot of playing with things I was able to get the ADW Launcher (shipped with Reloaded) to a setup that I like. My favorite feature is the ability to control the bottom shelf apps (persistent across all screens). It was also nice to remove the extra home screens I do not use. There are a lot of interesting themes, but without complete icon support (for all the apps I use) most themes are not capable of reaching their full affect.

Once getting ADW working I decided to take a look at GO Launcher EX. Previously I really liked the GO SMS Pro texting app, but found their GO Keyboard to look a lot better than it worked (I found SwiftKey X to be far superior as an input device). GO Launcher EX was a little easier to setup than ADW. To me the GO Launcher EX to looks and performs slightly nicer than ADW. It also has a user changeable shelf area, and without the odd two part scrolling stuff that ADW added to the mix.

Battery drain with 1/7 around 7p/h

The only problem I had with 1/7 during one week of use, was my battery draining about 2-3 times the rate it was (vs TG ROM and effectively the same TheOC kernel). However I changed a lot, including my use of the GO Luancher EX, I couldn't be sure the GO Launcher was not the cause.

Well I over-layed the 1/14 zip yesterday evening. My drain rate is still being reported very high, at 7.7p/h, but the battery percentage is definitely not draining at that rate. I suspect this is just some left over data that I was not able to clear. I will not know for sure for a day or two, but first impressions are that the 1/14 ROM is kinder to my battery.

I have had not experienced any other issues with 1/7 or 1/14 for normal everyday use. No lockups or functional problems (SmartAssV2 61Mhz-1Ghz).

GPS, as good as it gets

I just did a quick GPS test from my home office window. First lock (I hadn't used the GPS in weeks) was the painful multi-minute complaint generating event common to the MT hardware. Without turning OFF the GPS, but leaving the APP, a second fix (only a few minutes later) was only 4seconds. I turned off the GPS, and tried the test again a few minutes later, and it took 11sec. Given our seemingly bad hardware, this ROM seems as good as anything else I've tried.

My favorite part is that all the CM7 based ROMs allow us to try them without having to restore all our user data. I would love to try out the ICS skinned ROM, that I might play with the HDMI output, but I've become accustom to the nice features of CM7, especially the battery life.

Thanks Whyzor for all your hard work!:D

Thanks for the link. I usually let the system handle every thing, but quite often apps that I don't use very much (but are too important/wanted to uninstall) are cached, while resource-heavy apps I use multiple times a day get killed when I try to multitask because the cache is full of all these other apps.

And you know that the following is a possible reason?
If you see an app running that you didn't launch, it's most likely because an activity within that app was called by another app to perform a task. If you kill the app you didn't launch, the system has to relaunch that app in order to complete its task.

And you know that the following is a possible reason?
Often its a game or miscellaneous app i don't use much. Maps and Gmail always start on boot, and I only use Maps if I need GPS, and I almost exclusively use Yahoo mail, so I'm not sure what activities those would be necessary for.

If you're not aware, there is are some nice ICS themes for CM7 and ADW/Go Launcher. I'm currently using the ICS theme for CM7/ADW and other than the fact that I'm not actually running ICS, I feel like I am :-D

Also, I'd highly recommend the ICS theme for Go SMS. It's awesome.

when i turn on the wifi hotspot and use with my kindle fire/pc it just crashes and starts agin any solutions this was happening with TG's last build as well

This ROM is amazing. I am so happy with CM7-reloaded. Very nice.

This newest mod 01-14 seems to have introduced a couple little oddities. Sometimes it takes a couple of clicks of the power button for it to come on. Sometimes the resistive keys at the bottom will light up but the screen will not come on. I turn it "off" again and then back on and it all works.

Only other thing in this new mod is the screen seems just a little less responsive. Hard to quantify or measure but touching buttons on the screen seems just a little laggy.

But, the battery life on my phone is great now. I have it on wifi and am dropping only about 6% per hour or so. Feels good compared to normal.

Thank you all so much for working on this. Please keep up the good work.

So far so good with BT. It works at least as good as the wake lock app. I don't use Bluetooth long enough for an extended test, but before my BT would disconnect exactly 2 min after screen off. No more. Waiting for more reports.
Thanks Whyzor.

Thank you so much for all the hard work. If it was not for you I would have returned my phone. I use BT a lot and hope this will keep it from loosing connection. I am going to install this ROM in a few minutes and will LYK how she is running. Once again, thank you so much and keep up the great work. BTW, I hate that Virgin mobile lady screaming her lungs out LOL, it will be nice to see her go away once I flash this ROM :)

I am not asking for an eta at all I am just curious if the HDMI thing might get a second look? I would be willing to donate more money to that effort if needed. IMO this rom would be complete with that.

Both Isaac & Tickerguy have looked into HDMI problem and haven't fixed it yet (& they know their way around the source code better than me). So I would say the probability is pretty low. CM9/ICS may have a higher chance since it has a generic HDMI support feature.

It came back on after some charging it was just something ran the battery down.
I wasnt connected to any wifi in the area, I just had it on and there was no open wifi available so i just turn my screen off and put it in my bag.
I also had data turned off.

So im guessing the constant scanning must have drained it?

Yes, NOT having a wifi hotspot to connect to and searching will drain it pretty quickly.

New version is most definitely the snappiest CM7 yet and I

Just wanted to say, as far as hotspots goes. My Kindle fire has been. Basically married to my Triumph for weeks now without any issue.

I'd also recommend the ICS launcher (just search the market for it) it's fairly simple and doesn't kill my RAM like other launchers seem to do. I like it a lot.

This bad boy works my man, keep up the great work. I use BT all the time and no other ROM could make it stick. My BT is keeping perfect connection and the GPS locked without any glitch at all. Thank you again so much for all the hard work, I can now keep my MT LOL. Have a great day and keep it up...:D

Just finished doing a little test on GPS lock times.
1-1.5 min to minimal (~90ft) lock. About 2 min to good (15 ft) lock.
As compared to previous ROM versions, this shows:
(drum roll please)

No change!

[ELVIS] Thank you, thank you very much. [/ELVIS]
