Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

My parents live in the country, on the edge of the service area, so when I visit them my service is terrible. My phone is giving me the service beep and it eats my battery searching for the elusive signal. Is it possible to make these phones be able to send and receive texts using wifi?

If you put the phone in airplane mode it will stop searching for a signal and save battery life

Try pinger on the play store

Can anyone tell me in the original Rom that came with the Prevail, what was the App that was responsible for playing Video files?

What App in CTMod 3.6 is reponsible for playing video files?

And what App in the Market is best for playing all kinds of video files?

In the original Rom it seems I could play video files with no problem, now some play and others don't (3.6), even though they have the same extension and some video apps I tried from the Market slowed my phone down horribly, even caused it to freeze.

I just tried to play an AVI file in ctmod 3.6 and my phone froze then shut off. I had to choose quickpic when it asked me what app to use, but before I was able to play avi files and others as well. Some of my video files seem to have no app associated, the icons are different, and the phone does not know what to use.

In anyone's opinion, what is the best Video App to use on CTMod 3.6 that can play all kinds of video files?

the video app in stock is Gallery 3D, in CTMod its Quickpic.

I think most people usually use MX Player or MoboPlayer for avi.

I tried both of them from the market and they caused major freezing issues with the phone, even with the codec's they make u install.

I noticed when people talk about installing RemovedApps back to the phone, it seems to be pretty straight forward. When I do it, I have to move each one at a time and change the permissions on each app or they wont work or even show up.

I never see anyone else stating they have to change the file permissions, like the same issue I have.

- I never had this problem in the past.

I just use ESfile explorer and have the removed apps list unzipped to my download folder on the SD card. Then multi select the apps I want and select copy. Then I go to where they need to be and pull up the page that they are on and it looks like the screenshot below. Then click each one and they paste in the apps folder. The whole process only takes a minute at most. Then reboot and everything is in the app drawer

I use Root Explorer. I use to either use the apk installer method, but mostly would just move all of them at the same time to system/app, reboot, and they would all be in my drawer.

Now, for some reason, I have to move one at a time, and after I do I have to change the file permissions to what all of the other files are in the system/app folder, or they will not show up in the app drawer.

I never had to change the file permissions before, and I figured it out just by messing around with it.

When I move the app to system/app and check the file permissions, they are set at:

OWNER
GROUP (READ WRITE EXECUTE)
OTHERS (READ ......... EXECUTE)

Where as all of the other apps already in system/app are set to:

OWNER (READ WRITE)
GROUP (READ)
OTHERS (READ)

And this is what I have to set it to in order for it to show up in the app drawer after the reboot. Like I said I never had to do that before, now I do, mostly just wondering why.

Don't know if it matters or not but I'm using the SSM setup, 3 partitions, fat/swap/ext

thanks.

Another Question:
I have read the past few posts about this, but not sure I understand it anyway, so
-what is the difference on the 2 CTMod 3.6 Download Links on the first page?
-does both download links have the updated browser as posted:
BLOODAWN:
I updated Chrome to fix some shit - Chrome.apk

Changes:
Fixed a bug with it crashing on some sites
1 mb smaller then the one that comes with 3.6
Faster
Cleaned up some of the theming
You can delete the MxBrowser folder on your sdcard, everything goes to the Chrome folder now.
Nevermind - I redid my phone and downloaded Goo.im - CTMod 3.6 and flashed it, all is good and the browser has the "grey" loading color, so I guess I answered it myself.

added another link for 3.6 to the first post - Goo.im Downloads - CTMod3.6-Prevail.zip

you can now download CTMod 3.6 straight to your phone using GooManager. all future releases will be available on it - GooManager Beta

even tho you don't need the answer anymore, here it is anyway =p

its the same as the mediafire link, I just put the updated chrome in it since I was having to upload it again and I added some stuff in the build.prop for notifications to show up in GooManager when CTMod is updated.
