Root [ROM][FINAL] CM7 7.2 RC1 - g60 style [7.11.12]

I went from r.04 to r.08 couple of days ago and have no problems with the camera whatsoever. I'd say that the most annoying issue for me is the darkness of the screen when coming up from sleep as it's hard to see the 9 dots so I can unlock the phone.

I have the same issue when walking to my car on my way to lunch.:D

G60, I've been looking around your github. I noticed you include a prebuilt camera, and build one (I looked in the default.xml)
I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Or I could of missed something.

Yeah I have the source still, I didn't updated my default.xml so the source still downloads. I am pretty sure when I built 0.8 I delete the camera folder, but I messed up an install earlier this afternoon and same issue so it's possible :P Will get things square in r0.9 I am working on it now trying some new stuff on it.

I have noticed anything in this build it seems to be OK. I would recommend a doing a full wipe and see where it's at. I have noticed many weird issues with ROM's in general when you just do a wipe cache, dalvick cache and install ROM. I will be changing the install instructions to recommend a full wipe and reload each and every time.

Recommend a full wipe each time?

As in - every time I update to a new build, I'll have to re-customize and tweak everything from scratch?

Well maybe not every time. I think the issue maybe more related to the fact I came from TG which is 7.1 to g60 which is 7.2. I think if you are on g60 it should be OK as for my side I will be going full wipes each time for integrity sake. What I need to do is get another MT that I can dev on to make life a little easier.

Ditto, i'm annoyed by this too :(

Ok so it seems like every time I read these there is something new going wrong. The camera does or doesn't work, the brightness of the screen is messed up, the proximity, etc...something new with every new build. Now I understand it takes awhile too get it all right and not everyone has the same problems. Are these all issues going from one build to the next? when I install one it will be my first one, should I expect all of these issues with the camera and brightness and all that? I'm not complaining cause I'm glad you guys do what you do. it's just right now I don't have the devices to keep fixing things. I'll explain, I'm in a Bible training center and I don't have access to the internet except on my phone. I have to wait until I go home on vacation to try this...once I come back I can't I keep fixing things. Hope that makes sense.

For me, I'm using r06 as I don't have any problems with it so you may want to just stick to that one until more bugs are smoothed out.

I'm gonna try to say this as nicely and tactfully as possible: at least in my opinion, your post was pretty annoying (and I'm NOT a dev). Stay on stock or don't flash updates if you'd be inconvenienced by release bugs. You SHOULD EXPECT THEM. Until you see "final release" on the release description... deal with it.

That's about what I'm doing. r0.6 is working fine, so I'll hold off on updates until things are sorted out a bit more. :)

No offense to our wonderful developer, but for someone who's not an expert with Android to begin with, stuff not working gets highly frustrating.

Hehe, chill bro.you don't get points or free stuff for sticking up for devs. I asked a very legit question in a very tactful way. Sense I DO NOT know how these things work I have to ask. Like if everything seems to work on r0.6 for instance why do new ones keep coming out. Very real and sincere question. Sorry but the devs do not take offense to questions.

Oh and on the cm7 page it says the camera doesn't work on r0.6. Does it?

Not sure if this was said but im useing r05 and the camera works when switching from back to front facing cameras.
I thought it was only suposed to be fixed in version 8 and 9.

This is happening to me on r05 is there a setting that can fix it. But i dont have a lock screen with a pin.
Sorry for the double post.

That makes sense; I didn't consider that many of the g60 users are upgrading directly from TG or Whyzor's builds... or even Froyo.

The camera has been an issue for months since December of 2011 to be exact. Because no one does full wipes you are never getting the complete picture of what works and doesn't work as parts carry over from one ROM to another. I wiped and flashed the last (2) builds of Whyzor and the camera was still broken on both of those ROM's. Once I took over deving on the phone I have been resolving problems, but also introducing new problems as well.

r0.6 is where more new hiccups happened due to the fact I removed a lot of software from the ROM based on community input and was switching launchers back and forth. These are not full 100% baked from the vendor (nor was the vendors ROM) so there will be problems that do arise. The camera issue should be put to bed as it is no longer crashing or locking up when switching modes. Does that mean the camera works perfect? Of course not, there could still be some issue with it but the major bug of crashing when toggling from front to back video is resolved. Each time myself, or another dev is building from source code and we include new updates from Cynogenmod or AOKP or what ever it can introduce new problems to the ROM.

The best I can say is find a stable ROM you like and stick with it if stability is what you need. I would recommend using one of the Froyo ROM's as those have proven to be the most stable and also have less hardware problems

Also if you find bugs please post them on My View - MantisBT so I can slowly work through and fix them. To date I have fixed the camera, proximity sensor and the volume bug. However I am sure there is more issues with the device that need to be fixed. The more user input I get on the ROM the better the ROM will be.

Exactly. When you upgrade you are carrying over pieces from each ROM and not getting a full clean install.

What I recommend is this procedure when moving from one rev to another. It's not full proof but if keeping your data is important this maybe the best bet.

Couldn't all the camera issues be avoided by users downloading a third party camera app from the Play Market? Or would a third party app still have problems working with CM7/CM9? There's a free camera called Camera ICS, that's based on the official camera that comes with ICS, that's rated highly by it's users.

Your best is to flash r0.9 as the camera doesn't crash anymore. The camera does work on each build but it crashed when toggling video. If do a fresh install of r0.8 the camera is not included and does not install. The reason I released it as I did an upgrade from TG. I installed his ROM to check if the camera was working it was. So I built my ROM with the TG's camera included and then intalled r0.8 and the camera worked fine. So I released it. However after doing a full wipe the camera does not install. So my recommendation is to always do a full wipe and reload no matter what to get the best experience possible with any ROM. If you upgrade you are setting yourself up for FAIL like I did

There is a few people that said that worked but I have not tested it out so I don't know.

It does work but it's only working based on the fact you upgraded from a ROM where the camera was working. If you do a full wipe and reload of r0.5 I bet the camera crashes on you.

Thanks g60 for that answer. As you can probably tell I wasn't asking why something is wrong with every new one. I just don't understand some things is all. I won't be able to install anything for another 2 weeks so I'm sure by then everything will be working fine.

No worries if you don't keep up with the Forum it's hard to see whats going on from build to build. I updated the instructions on installing. I HIGHLY recommend to always do a full wipe data/factory reset & advanced -> dalvik-cache in recovery mode. If you don't follow that methodology you will experience problems as I did when I released r0.8.
