Root [ROM] Mik3D - RC1- [10/31/2011]

Just so I am clear if I am currently running mik3d B1 and decided to flash a mikg 2.5 all I would do is wipe cache/dalvik cache/data/sd ext, then superwipe and flash mikg 2.5. I dont have to flash 2.5 and 2.51 first, right?

Also if when you flash, the recovery copies the files to your partitions does it keep all the ROMS and kernels you flash??? or is that why you wipe what u do?

I did have this problem the other day while on the Evolved 3D Rom. Since it is based off of Mikg3d maybe it's similar.
I had the phone on airplane mode and when i took it off it would not make sound for any notifications. I just did a reboot of the phone and that fixed it for me.

If that didn't do it then I would wipe everything and try loading the Rom from scratch. That seems to be what others have had to do when they encounter problems with different Rom's.

Hopefully that helps. If not maybe someone else has a better idea.

not sure what you said. Usually, i wipe those first three 3x., my card isn't partitioned yet, but I think that you flash it too if you are going to be doing that a2sd thing. Like i say, I haven't tried it yet.

I went to 2.5, then 2.51 and then 2.52.. 5.1 and 5.2 are patches to add the new ota fixes to the rom. I read somewhere that you could skip 5.1 and go straight to 5.2. i don't know if I read that right, that isn't what i did, in any case.

I think it is the 2.51 that gives you option to patch with kernel or without. If you like the kernel you are using then pick the version w/o a kernel.

Don't forget to wipe cache and d-cache between applying patches as well.

correct do the wipes, superwipe, then flash mikg2.5 and you can be done. but if you want or need voice to text then wipe dalvik cache and cache and flash 2.51 then do the same thing for 2.52.

Also if when you flash, the recovery copies the files to your partitions does it keep all the ROMS and kernels you flash??? or is that why you wipe what u do?

basically what the recovery does is that it unzips the files from the sd card and copies them onto the system partitions according to a script (most likely in amend or edify). it will override any pre-existing rom or kernel. once recovery has flashed the rom that file that is on your card is not needed anymore.

as far as your partitions go, that is different. your partitions are on your card and not on your phone. so if you want a clean install then you need to wipe the sd ext as well.

Thanks a lot guys! Makes much more sense now. Im sticking with mik3d B1 and eagerly awaiting the final version.

what messaging app are you using? try and unistall and re-install it. so apps can move the texts to the card as well.

Just using the stock one...how would I reinstall it?

Also, my power button does not respond except to go to screen off..it will not bring up the power down menu unless I do a battery pull. This also just started.

Wondering if the non3d rom by mik is more stable. I kind of want to set it and forget it ...flashing Rom and getting all my accounts and settings back is a pain.

Well you can download a program called Quickboot which will allow you to power down, reset or boot into recovery without needing the power button. It is way faster than the normal power down menu.

Also, you might try reflashing the ROM. Maybe try and download it again wipe Dalvick and chache and then flash. If you dont wipe data then you wont need to add your apps or set up your accounts again.

Update,..the text alerts and the power button now work again..I did absolutely nothing except go to bed and wake up..lol.

I have no idea whats going on...so weird.

I had my first random reboot over the weekend. Was taking lots of pictures, using gps, talking a lot. Just extreme heavy useage, I've never used her like that before. I guess she just had enough and shut down.
Runs fine after reboot, never did figure out what caused it.

I had the same issue...I was using Nav, texting and a few other things and it just kind of stroked out. Sense kept rebooting so I shut it down and let it sit for a few minutes and rebooted. All was well. :)

Randomly I have text alert issues too, but they clear up on their own usually.

I think sometimes the ROM just gets bogged down too much by crap and temp files and you just need to let it rest a bit.

actually the best thing to do is to wipe dalvik cache and cache. this works especially if things start slow down.

I was asked to post some more battery mods for MikG 3D. If you want a different one, please send me or post a screen shot and I will see what I can do. For now, here are some others I have put together.

I will be adding more as I get them made. Again, if you have one in particular that you want, let me know and send me a screen shot if possible.

Just flashed Mik3D beta 1 a few days ago. Its smooth and fast, but rarely unresponsive to touch. I like this ROM and I'm sure the next version is gonna be even sweeter.

Is anyone else having these issues?:
- Renaming a folder on home screen takes more effort than normal or my fingers got fatter.
- Can't run wifi tether. It claims I don't have root (same with Titanium BackUp for root users) ...

your first issue i never had any problems with.

your second issue maybe with the superuser app. go into your app drawer and run the superuser app. it should have a list of apps that have been given permission and also those that were denied. just click on those and allow permission and you should be good to go.

While I was very satisfied with MikG 2.51 (didn't flash 2.52 yet) I decided to try Mik3D Beta so I flashed it last night. Maybe it's just me, but it's not running near as fast for me as it is for some of you other folks. I have 203mb of space left after download which is good but I guess I'm left wondering if I need to flash a custom kernel. Also, any ideas when the Mik'ster will update this ROM?

Thanks!

I feel quite the fool. I thought the dev excluded the superuser app from the rom because i couldnt find it. So I tried my root apps to test. After your response, I thought I would reflash the rom to see if the superuser app was there. And it was. I somehow uninstalled it or something.

Great questions..no one knows.

I am not sure why everyone loves this ROM so much that they switched from 2.5. In my opinion, it is not stable if you value your phone for texting, mail and calls. As silly as that sounds, a lot of folks here seem to use their phone as a small computer so downtime does not seem to be an issue. I do appreciate the knowledge a lot and still think the Mik3D ROM is excellent, but it does suffer from some bugs that could screw you over at an inopportune time.

Also not sure if a stable version is ever going to be released. I think I will be going back to the 2.5 version as that seems to be the best Mik ROM if you value stability.

aamikam is in school right now;) He will update this in due time.

Anyways, that's why this rom is still in beta form. There will be some bugs but.......it's still a great build, imo:)

+1!
I can wait for a stable version, this one is stable now. It's my daily, only had one random reboot, one. The stock ROM has more random reboots than this beta. Aamikam is a god amung men, he'll get it done. School first! :D

Yeah I use my phone primarily for texting and have almost zero issues. (nothing a reboot cant help) I had similar issues with stock and unrooted Evo so it isnt the build I dont think.

Oops...didn't realize he was in school! Yeah...school always comes first! I do like this ROM a lot so I'll be patient for the final version. :D

The last day or so (since I did a nandroid restore) my gmail has not been syncing right. Basically I will get the email, delete it but it wont actually delete. It will still be on the server (hours later I can see it, unread, if I go to my email from my computer) Also, when I open the program the inbox tab will tell me I have emails (the ones I deleted but didn't actually delete) but I cant get them to show up.

I wiped Dalvick and Cache already and all that did was fix the problem temporarily. Going to do it again and see if that fixes it permanently. If not any suggestions? Should I reflash the Nandroid? Maybe reflash the Rom without wiping cache? Throw my phone against the wall and bust out my old Katana? ;) :p

Thanks in advance :)
