Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

Perhaps we have a permissions issue? Maybe it's deeper. I wonder if a logcat would be useful here... I'm going to Google around and see if anyone has modded the browser to work on CM9. I know someone on XDA has gotten an old version of MIUI notes to work on any GB phone. So it may be possible. UPDATE: According to a moderator on a MIUI site, it would take some serious hacking (involving decompiling and hacking the binaries, or downloading the source and tweaking the app for MTDEV CM9) in order for most MIUI apps to work. See here. I'll continue to search. Perhaps someone from MTDEV could try and port that browser over when time permits (it's just about Christmas, you know! :) ). We're really good at doing without source code (Thanks Motorola!) You could try to send us a logcat of what's going on when it force closes, or look for any crash dump files. That would let us know if you're missing a modded APK (such as BrowserProxyProvider), need to change some permissions, or we have a massive task on our hands. There are also plenty of MIUI-like browsers out there. I know Miren is one of them. Someone even ported it to English. I dunno though if it works on ICS. You can always try it though. Also search the Play Store. If you like the tab switcher of MIUI, Opera Mini/Mobile and UC Web Browser, Boat Browser, and Maxthon also have similar tab switchers, I believe. Many of those are also Chinese made, so they have similar design. They're all available on the Play Store and are pretty well translated. I suggest you try them all, and settle on your favorite variant and uninstall the others. They all utilize the stock rendering engine, so they should have flash support and be pretty compatible with mobile sites. I use Firefox Mobile, and since a lot of the mobile web is written for WebKit, I get plenty of rendering issues and crashes (not Firefox's fault, though.)

OK, so to get a logcat, you should get an app from the Play Store that is good at creating a proper log file. I would recommend Logcat extreme. Search the market for it. Play around with the controls (just don't mess with the settings now for consistency's sake) and get used to pausing, recording, saving, starting a floating logcat, and sending logcats. Now, you want to start a new floating logcat. Do not start recording just yet. For consistency's sake, if stuff's been acting up, reboot your phone. When everything is loaded up again, start logcat extreme and start a floating llogcat. Start recording by pressing the record button. Open up the MIUI browser and let it crash. Press OK, and pause the logcat. Stop recording. Now send that logcat in an email to yourself. That way you will get it. Then, attach it as a post here in this thread on AndroidForums. That oughtta give us an idea of what we're dealing with. Or, if you cannot figure stuff out you could just put the browser APK on Dropbox, Mediafire and give us the URL of it, I could download and install it and get a logcat of it myself. Either option works.

It appears to be looking for MIUI specific java code and crashing because it's on CyanogenMod. I believe I found the line causing the crash, but something tells me there would be another similar error if we fixed that one. Someone would have to get the source code (MIUI luckily recently became open source) and rewrite the code for CM9. I don't know if any of those guys have the time to do it with the camera and all the ROMs to maintain. You could always start a new thread requesting this to be done. Just don't expect work to get started until after Christmas.

Is there be usb thethering using another app or is it out of the question...
Edit: found an app called easytether, (confirmed working on Linux)

My phone doesn't recognize its connected to a computer. It charges but the option to mount to PC doesn't come up at all.

Not showing up? On Windows or Linux? What version/distro? Could be a driver issue... By the way, did you hear the camera news? Thanks to Bsydz and g60 we actually have the camera working, but there are bugs and things are almost fixed. :)

Partially working. The LEDs work (meaning the torch works) and there are glitches with the ROM and kernel, but it boots and doesn't seem to restart itself anymore. It crashes still at times, but progress is being made. It's unbelievable, I know.

I'm literally dancing with joy! You devs are the best. Thanks for all of your continued efforts!! Unbelievable.

Guys, I'm just forum support and an FAQ writer. I also search for bugs in the ROMs when they are near release. The camera is progressing thanks to g60, dorregay, and BSydz. You can check the status of the camera in the Camera progress thread. :) But I still do work around here, just not the miracle work. I do, however, plan to take up ROM developing maybe when I learn programming this semester in college.

Today is my last day on the Triumph. My Evo is coming in the mail tomorrow. I'm still really glad to see this progress! Thank you to the MTDEV crew for all your work. You made this phone awesome!

There was a big breakthrough on the Evo today too as they found a way to get MMS working in all the roms. (even your ROM g60!) :)

The new year is already looking good!

Nice been so busy with the Triumph I haven't even looked at this lol

I just hope through all of the hell this project has put you guys through it's for something, this phone is more then worthy of 4.0 and the fact that Motorola doesn't see it fit for it makes me sick to my stomach. When this is all done and working not perfectly but at least good for us users who have the phone and plan to stick with it for awhile, you guys are going to be praised for the work you've done keeping this underdog still running and compatible and if not then at least you had the hearts to try and we at least have a functioning GB rom to make it up for it. :p

Thank you. It has been worth it for me. I buy electronics anyway and this project has allowed me to by an awesome workstation with a small amout of money, thanks to the donations that the community has given us (thank you guys). On top of that I have found that a possible carrere could allow me to work while not killing my body, or loosing my sanity (we'll see about that one) The MT has allowed me to have a focus and g60 and the rest of the DEVs have tought me a bunch. And for that I keep thanking them.
