Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

The camera is kinda like the first and second rules of Fight Club.

People are working on it. Don't make them annoyed. They will let us know when they have something to tell us. They are kind, gentle, and peaceful people. We wouldn't like them when they're angry.

I normally just break my own stuff when I'm angry. I think that I am the only one who is truely working on it and I have a back log of life. I know I saw two people who wanted to learn what I know about DEVing, but I haven't head from them since they got their machines up and running.

Fret not, I have some ideas for CM9 that I want to try, not just the camera but the ROM size and RAM disk size that should go towards every aspect of the ROM. After that I'll see if I can get the camera working better. I want to run ICS to, beleive me I do! I just can't have it crashing because of memory issues and the camera has to work, like at least mostly.

Holla

Well if I had the knowledge and the right tools to DEV I would but I'm on an old computer with XP.and DS you are doing great work.Keep it up!

I did find some files that we have in CM7 that weren't in CM9. I think that they have to do with the picture capture part as one firle had "jpeg" in the name. I need to bug chairshot or g60 to see how they use hexray to find dependentcies.

I won't release a build until I get a good chunk that makes an improvement. But I hope that do drop one soon. And I can't say that the ROM will have extensive testing, but as I am just working on the one part and have re-organized my style, any issues should be limited to the camera area for now.:D

dsm I'd be glad to do some testing for you if you need. I've been considering jumping into dev'ing for android but really don't think i have the time to dedicate (my wife would slaughter me) and all my development experience is for pc and web design. I have a few android programming books but never really opened them. I really want to jump in and contribute more to this community, but since I have limited time (and experience) I think it might be best spent testing and learning. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out.

It's not that hard to do a bunch of the stuff that I plan on doing in the next few weeks. It's just a lot of leg work, back and forth type stuff. I probably will post the ROMs as I get them to boot and will post an update that will be based on the testers. I am using hexray as they have a demo version that works for arm processors and will do what I need it to do. It's not like my 12 years of working on cars have prepared me to program:D. But I am learning.

Hooray for g60. chairshot tried to tell me how he was using a program to find the dependancies for our libraries, but I didn't understand. g60 logged into my workstation and showed me what I was doing wrong. Now I am in business.

I hope to have a test ROM out by this weekend.
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed, Screenshots get save as a black image, and i cant save any image, they get saved as a black image.

I was running CM7 over the holidays just for camera and it worked just fine. changing back to CM9 though, man... seems so fast without glitches. Camera? Using action snap and clicking on the little running man for quick one shot photos seems alright, blurry? a little bit yeah but for everything else... KICK ASS JOB on this rom. I'm loving it and can have patience for better camera for another few months if it comes to that. You guys rock and I'm going to send in a little more money for the cause in the next week!

Can you guys use a couple free samples of something I've found to be about 300% better than coffee ever was for me ? NO, not anything illegal, ;) again free samples, just need an address and attn to, no obligation, just something I can do.

something wrong on your phone... just checked and mine works perfectly. not that this helps you, just saying.
Thanks for the input, it did really help, beacause i though it was a bug, but yours is working fine. Im gonna wipe everything and re-flashed to see if it solves the issue.

NO, not anything illegal, ;)

ROFL, that winkie-face is ******* hilarious xD

Also, what is the issue with USB Tethering (It's listed under Issues)? I've been on CM7 for a while and since the camera at least partially works now I've thought about moving. Can I not move files to/from my phone via USB? Or is it a smaller issue than that?

How 'partial' is the camera? I'm just curious, I know it works in Panorama, is there another way to take pictures?

Really sorry for all the questions, but will I be able to live with the 3G disconnects? They don't happen every 10 seconds or anything, right?

I think I need to move the ROM to alpha as I am making some major changes with the device files. The files from the varients have different performances and dependancies. Permissions too if I remember correctly.

When the files are done, then I'll get into functionality, until then you can consider it back to alpha.

...always like to make people laugh, keep em entertained, etc.... Yes on camera taking pics more than just panorama, I'm using action snap, I think you have to just quick select the running guy icon and it's good for regular shot. It's only a little blurry actually, not bad at all in my opinion.

The 3g disconnects are something new to me on this rom... never had that issue before but have noticed it time to time... Not sure on tether, haven't tried it with this updated cm9.

Well I guess it's time to try CM9 haha. Blurry isn't an issue for me, as long as you can tell what's going on lol. Time to time doesn't sound bad, and actually when I think about it I rarely tether to my computer anyways, so I guess it can't hurt to try. Sounds like the majority of people prefer everything except the camera of CM9 over CM7, and now that the camera is partially working I guess CM9 sounds pretty good to me. Thanks!

I'm having an issue with the wifi. It starts up and connects, but then disconnects and reconnects again and again (confirmed through an app). All it basically does is cause my Wifi/internet to act extremely slowly, which is quite annoying. I'll keep trying to see if it's my router (Dlink-655). If anyone can help me out, that'd be wonderful. Thank you.

Do you have Bluetooth enabled? Same thing happened to me on my previous version of CM7, it's a weird compatibility issue.

Bluetooth is off, but the connection seems to stay connected a little longer now, maybe a minute or two at a time. Still an issue, but not quite as annoying. I flashed gapps when installing cm9, along with several reboots, just so you guys know. Oh, and I got Google Now to work - which would work even better with WiFi :P

Just making sure, but did you:

1) Wipe data/factory reset
2) Wipe cache partition
3) Advanced/Clear Dalvik Cache
4) After all of that, install CM9
5) Then immediately after, flash gapps

Frankly I'm pretty sure there's no reason to wipe cache and dalvik cache after you do a factory reset, but it can't hurt to be safe.

Anyway, if you did all that, try forgetting your network, disabling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, turning the phone off, restarting the phone, enabling Wi-Fi, and finally connecting to your WAP again and see if that fixes anything.

If that doesn't fix anything the only thing I can think of is restoring back to your backup (Or factory resetting if you don't have one... but you should ALWAYS make a nandroid backup) and then repeating processes 1 - 5 again.

Also make sure you have the right gapps, I always grab the one posted on the thread of the ROM I'm downloading regardless of whether or not I think I already have that version of gapps, because names can get ****** up.

Yup, did those 5 steps. I haven't tried forgetting the network, I'll try that next. If all else fails, I'll just give it some time. It seems to get more stable as time goes by, but I could be imagining things. I'd hate to go back to the stock rom (I don't care much for CM7 or MIUI) as I'm only using this version of CM9 because the camera partially works and Google Now works great. Thanks for the support, guys!

Huh, weird, I actually think it might be a problem with your network, because I just flashed CM9 and everything works great, Wi-Fi is very stable for me. I was never a big fan of MIUI, but after using CM7 for so long (Because of the camera issues with CM9) I would never go back to stock haha. To be honest I don't even know what Google Now is, and ironically I'll probably go Google it, but this is probably the best ROM I've ever used. I'd hate to see you have to go back to stock :(

Also, giving it some time can work wonders, sometimes shit like that happens to my Wi-Fi using devices and I just wait it out, as much as it sucks. Do you have access to your modem/router/WAP? If so, you can try resetting it/them or cool them down if they're hot, I have one of those all-in-one things and once in a blue moon I need to cool it down with a fan or something.

How are you guys faring with gaming? I tried playing family feud and I kept getting rebooted. Its not a high end, 3d game. I also tried playing shadowgun, which used to be able to run for a least a little while but now just reboots.

Uuhhhmmm I'm using the 10/23/12 update of this from and the games work perfectly, all these games would normally reboot me with the other versions

Well it might be number 2
I changed the camera files to what we have in CM7. This didn't seem to make one bit of difference to the camera. I also tweeked the kernel to allow 24MHz. This only saves a drop of power, but it saves. While I was in there I changed what steps were in there to reduce the overhead. Again this is just minor and shouldn't make a big difference, maybe add an hour to the phone's charge.

You can find the ROM in the ROM browser.

I am adding in the fix that Tickerguy did with CM7 way back when. Let's see what that does.
