Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

And some apps, such as Browser, simply will not pull up a keyboard.

That seems weird. I have been using the 4-23 version all day.

I noticed that I have the 4-23 version, but I didn't upload it to the server. I'm going to DL the 4-15 version and see where that is.

And I'm about to test a new gapps that I put together to use the unused spaces on our phones.

I'm using the 4-15, it appears. Should I update to 4-23? Would that help? Where would I find that, since it's not in the Browser thingie? ;)

4-15 should be fine. I'm using now on the DEV phone. I'm trying to understand why I can't use my gapps.????

I certainly don't know. :D

The only problem I'm seeing so far is the keyboard thing. I've rebooted a couple of times and it didn't help. Wondering if pulling the battery would?

I'm using the gapps-ics-20120429-signed Gapps file. Is that the correct one at this point?

New data point on the keyboard issue: Messaging does pull up the keyboard, Browser (and another app I use a lot) do not.

I was just using the browser on the DEV phone and it was working for me. I think you know the drill, clear caches and reload the ROM then gapps.

My gapps will have to wait.

Another rebuild (using the symlinked Gapps) seems to have pretty much sorted that out (for now). I do find it thinking a router I'm 10ft away from is out of range a little unnerving, but it somehow finds the router and connects after giving me the "out of range" thing.

I not only rebooted twice during rebuild (after wiping caches and Dalvik, and after flashing ROM and Gapps), but pulled the battery briefly in the course of each rebuild.

One minor question: how do I convince this ROM and Apex Launcher that I really don't need a shortcut on the home screen for every app I install? I'll do those myself, TYVM. I do get tired of the "no more space on this homescreen" message, even when there's all kinds of open real estate on the screen.

Just had a scare when DH tried to use the front camera and managed to render the back camera unusable. Not sure whether wiping caches or a battery-pull cured it, but I have back camera back (and may quit being annoyed with DH sometime soon).

@Seanette

The "No more space" messages does not come from Apex, but from Trebuchet, the default launcher. Even though it is not default anymore, every time you install an app it still tries to add it to the main screen. Clear defaults on apex and go into trebuchet to see what I mean. I just deleted Trebuchet, it was taking up a lot of space in the /system partition.

Do the latest versions have any changes with the GPS? I've been running 3/20 and it worked a few times, then took about 20 to get a lock, now Navigation will reboot the phone every time it is opened.

I'll probably just go ahead and nuke Trebuchet, then. I like Apex fine, so don't feel any great urge to put up with Trebuchet giving me nonsense.

DH is playing with the camera on my phone again and is muttering about rotation. I hope he'll show up in this thread with more info. He did just now say that turning off auto-rotation in the system settings yields results he considers good.

The way our WiFi negotiates a connection is goofy. I know that the Epic that my friend gave me connects in a couple of seconds. I'm hoping that after I get the repo set back up I can play with the code a bit.

And for the shortcuts, it's the launcher's fault. Maybe I can find a better one to use in the future.

Who is DH? And the FFC is almost next on my list.

I want to move a bunch of different device files around and see what happens. When chairshot did it he had positive results.

The H is for Husband, and the D can be just about any descriptor starting with that letter. When he messed up my camera and I thought I was going to have to do yet another rebuild, when we were trying to get out the door to church, let's just say the D did not mean Dear. :)

I'm running the 4/23 build and am noticing some wifi problems. First, it takes a year and a day to connect. Seemed fine with the previous build and even faster on Froyocream. Second, the wifi disconnects constantly.

A question, what is it updating prior to boot after I clear the dalvik cache in recovery? I'm clearing it because it seems to be the only way I can use the Showtime Anytime app without the phone rebooting when I launch it.

Probably the cache. The system works out of the cache to improve system response. When you clear it, it has to rebuild it. Dalvik cache is different, but the same.

I'm trying to install some custom ringtones (in OGG format), and can't figure out where to put them in this ROM. They're currently on my SD card. OK, so I'm also having trouble getting Root Explorer to move more than one file at a time, but that's probably an IOHS issue. :)

On the SDcard it goes
/sdcard/media/audio/(notifications, ringtones)
It might work for alarm and ui. I haven't tried it, but that's the way it's setup on my phone.

I already know where they are on the SD card, as mentioned :). The phone doesn't recognize them over there, so what I'm trying to do is get them onto the phone's memory so I can use them.

OTOH, that did give me a useful hint that got me where I needed to be. Thanks!
