Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

My diagnostics are simple. Make a nandroid backup and flash a known good ROM. I would avoid any add ons untill the testing is over. If the problem persists then it's logical that the problem has nothing to do with the ROM itself.

I know it's not very helpful, but it's all I got.

Maybe it's because you HAVEN'T PAID?

Hey, ive been a huge fan of CM9 for a while now. I upgrades to the newest one and cannot see my battery usage data. Along with this is i am getting horrible battery life, about 4 hours of moderate use. Ive noticed when using the stock browser my phone become decently warm. Ive lowered the cpu, lowered the screen and limited the amount of apps to try to pin point the issue. Any ideas? Does paranoid android have better battery life?

Or maybe its not since not paying has anything to phone crashes, drops in service and repeated messages being sent to me via messaging app. If you'd permit me with a wild guess, I'm going to assume you ONLY read the free 3g part, got butthurt and put your two cents in. Am I close?

Okay I'll give it a shot but what the other person saying about the towers being messed up does seem rather logical. I don't believe its anything with the Roms as I tried cm9 AND 7 so not disrespecting the Roms whatsoever. Thanks for the tips regardless if it fixes it or not :)

I am still receiving texts from her that she sent to me on Fri, Sat, ect... while new messages both sent and received are a crap shoot if they go through or not. Very frustrating."

I didn't update to CM9 till Sat, so this ROM has nothing to do with it, and I called Virgin Mobile to see if anyone else was having a similar problem. They booted up my zip (16508) and told me a large update was just done to the system and completed on Sunday. She told me there were also a couple of towers that had suffered storm damage and were currently being fixed. I was advised my texting problem would be fixed within a few days. Maybe your data problems are a similar cause?






Do you live in the Western Ohio area? Because what you're saying does make sense as I'm too experiencing the text problems..

No.
It just seems totally Illogical for someone to post about how they get free data, after not paying for it, and then complain about data problems. :confused:
The simplest answer is USUALLY the correct one.

In my area Sprint has a tower upgrade about 2 miles away from me. I know they have a bunch in my greater area. I think they are trying to catch up with the other carriers in system support. This will help up all.

Somehow someway I ran a search and found a page that showed the planned towers. If you did the same I would suspect that you would find upgrades in your area.

Except not a single time was I complaining about not getting my data? I was simply stating my problem and asking if it could be something rom related. You could at-least get your facts straight my friend. I also am noticing you're acting like I'm "pirating" 3g(implying that's even remotely possible) when all I did was one day turn my data on and low and behold I have service *gasp* yeah I don't usually pay for 40 dollar service as I don't have $40 in my wallet every single month so I use my phone as a wifi device like you would your Ipod or Ipad..... but I'm assuming that's too Illogical to believe..?

well I guess i can just wait an see if it doesn't work it's not that big of a deal as I never expected to get free service in general lol but I just wanna say CM9 is a.w.e.s.o.m.e can't wait til you guys crack this thing and get it fully working. keep up the good work!

I don't know what your definition of complaining is, but that's not even close? I was stating my problem cuz ya know, can't really get help with something unless you state what the problem is. If I was complaining, I would have said something along the lines of UGGHHH MY 3G THAT WAS FREE AT ONE POINT ISN'T WORKING ANYMORE AND IT'S ALL U GUYSZ FAULT UGGGGHHHHHHH *stomp stomp stomp*

sorry for all the bickering that's taking the time away from answering questions but did you try checking to see if in your cpu settings your governor is not on performance? Because mine was for the longest time and I never realized it until my friend pointed it out for me and my battery would drain crazily too this is implying ofcourse that's the problem in general. Did you also try seeing if there are any apps that could be used the same way as using the battery usage or just reflashing cm9 in general?

Ha thanks for getting back to me. Yes I've changed CPU from on demand to smart ass v2 which has helped a bit. I tried a new flash and battery stats still doesn't work. My battery life is great if I don't use the phone ha

Haha that's all phones though if you think about it. Assuming you have service currently you may want to look at getting juice defender pro even though it's a little pricey (or not ;)) it'll help out a lot better but that's up to you then again it could just be the phone too o_O
 
If I remember correctly, running apps like juice defender actually makes things worse and has been discussed in a few threads here

It can depend on your usage. On my wife's phone it would go back an forth as she would use the phone some days (I mean a lot) and not other days. On the heavyer days it would hurt as it was set for the screen and she would be on and off with the data. This would trigger syncing from a bunch of apps when the data kicked on and they don't all handle the "Data-off method" well.
 
I know I'm a few days behind on this, but I don't have time to check the forums on a daily basis. My service has been shut off since last Saturday, as I couldn't afford to pay my next month right away :( But I have found that my 3G works, though not ALL the time. Obviously I can't make calls or send text messages, but at least with 3G I can keep in touch with my girlfriend through Facebook Messenger :)

This has happened to me occasionally over the last couple years when I've not been able to pay my next month on time, and it has done this on different ROMs on both my Optimus V and now my Triumph. So basically I'm saying that having working 3G with "non-working" phone service has nothing to do with the ROM being used.
 
On another note, can we all please try our best to get along and not take potshots at each other? Above all, this site is for Android users to share information and help each other in a friendly, courteous manner.
 
Is everyone having problem with this ROM losing radio reception when waking from sleep? I also have lousy reception at work and it often goes into a searching for service mode and does not seem to come back out when it has a signal. the only way to get it back is to toggle airplane mode.
I think this issue describes my problem:

Has any headway been made on finding the root cause of this problem?
BTW, thanks to all who have been making and fixing this ROM, it is pretty nice.

I haven't had any problems with 3g connects on this rom...
