Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

While AF can make it's rules to suit it's needs, that doesn't change the fact tethering on the OV is againt the TOS. The ability is built into IHO, but that's as far as we go.

I believe data is data, but I don't make the rules. ;)

Yeah, I read that change which is why I decided to join but, oh well. The wireless feature is useless to me, guess I need to buy a USB adapter for my tower with all the bad weather drowning out my connection lately.

Agreed. Especially since we no longer have unlimited 3g. We essentially have 2.5gb of data. The data speeds will be throttled to "256k or below." Technically they can throttle us to a point where internet would be unusable. If that's the case then we do not have unlimited data, we have only 2.5gb of data. I guess we'll find out what the speeds are truly like once the changes actually kick in.

Hey Jerry,

Anything happening on being able to use the Square app? I've read the last several days postings and didn't see anything. Still would like to be able to use your fine work on the BACKside ROM (hint hint).

Thanks,
Gerald

I have been doing some experimenting, but I'm limited to using various headsets (mic and non-mic) to test with since I don't have a Square.

There's a report of one of the other hardware accessories like Square (can't remember it's name right now) having the same issues, but only since we made a change to enable two-way recording on phone calls on Jan 2.

If you have the time to try a previous build, would you let me know if that change made any difference? Here's the latest build before the change:
BACKside-IHO-VM670-12212011.zip

The issue is that without LG's source, and complete schematics, it's almost impossible to determine the gpio that gets called when various types of plugs are used. :(

Hi Jerry,

Would I use the same gapps: gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip with BACKside-IHO-VM670-12212011.zip? Let me know and I'll give it a try and let you know what happens. I am downloading the previous build right now.

You could also get the Square reader directly from squareup.com for free with no hidden fees at all. There is a fee of 2.75% of anything you swipe (just don't use your own card as it is then determined to be a cash advance by your credit card company which can incur a high fee from your credit card company). The reader is free with no setup fees, no statement fees, no monthly minimums and best of all; no contract. SquareUp does charge more if the card is keyed in instead of swiped (3.5% plus 15 cents per). You will need to setup one of those free checking or savings accounts at your bank for money to be deposited into (never give anybody access to a bank account that has your own money in it). This way you can test the Square yourself for three cents each time the app actually starts working (minimum card swipe is $1 so minus 2.75% is 3 cents). It only cost me 15 cents for five $1 swipes when I tested BumbleBee from fresh install through four levels of tweeking.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be glad to do the testing to help out. You just might be able to get better info if you have a reader.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Gerald

The ability to record two way phone calls was added to the kernel a while back. To use the ability, you have to download an app from the Market (there are several). ;)

Hey all, love the new build. Working great. One thing though, stupid question. I just cant seem to find in the menus the option to change the screen count. It is defaulting to 5 which I like, but my wife does not. She wants 3. I know its got to be buried somewhere. Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Wow, fantastic ROM! This is my first time flashing, so it was kinda scary at first but I got through it.:)

Quick question though, usb mass storage doesn't work? Is this a known bug within the rom, or is there some setting that i need to tweak?

Is anyone experiencing a slight delay with nothing showing up on the screen between the LG logo and the BACKside IHO animation when turning on the phone with the latest build? I'm not having any problems, but I had wondered if this was normal since I don't remember it doing that on the previous build.

That delay is because I removed the init logo, I may add it back, blank screens are scary. ;)

edit @ brotherswing: it's much longer with the current build due to no initlogo.rle

I haven't even had a chance to flash the current build. I need to get on top of things. I'm starting to get the shakes.
You better clean up your act soldier. Just what kind of unit do you think we operate around here. It's been three days since the latest release, and you are still back in the dark ages? Next time this happens, you are going on report! :p

Hi Jerry,

Good news, Square usually works with the previous build (from 12-21-2011). I had it act up on me a twice along with six successful swipes. So I experimented and figured out what conditions made it mess up. I found the best way to always get it to work is to plug in the square device before starting the app. Once I started trying to make it mess up, it worked every time when plugging the device in after starting the app. However, I believe it might have failed once or maybe both times during the intial six successful swipes without ever removing the device while the app was running but just by plugging in after the app was started. Once the device is plugged in and the app is running, I could make it mess up by removing the device and plugging it back in usually twice while the app was running. I noticed each time I unplugged or replugged I barely heard a static click in the phone's speaker. Then a pop-up window would tell me to "try again swipe faster" without ever trying to swipe a card and continue to go away and repop-up randomly without ever doing a recognisable pattern. It would continue to do this until force shutting the app down in manage apps or rebooting the phone (both ways worked). Then the device would work again until removing and plugging back in usually twice while the app was running. I next did a fresh install of 1-10-2012 build and it always failed. If the pop-up windows doesn't show up, then the device worked and visa versa. So I believe you are right about a conflict cause by the change made to record conversations. BTW, in Texas only one party of a conversation has to know it is being recorded for it to be legal.

It is really nice to be able to use your BACKside ROM. I hope this info helps and will be glad to be the guinny pig if you pursue this. I think I described exactly what it took to make it mess up, but question me as much as you need.

Thanks so very much,
Gerald
