Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

anyone else have the issue with the phone not vibrating when a text comes in? I've tried many different settings, but cannot get it to work. I should also mention that other notifications vibrate fine such as words with friends, etc...

I'm running the build before the build that came out last night, lol.

Has anyone had any issues with the GPS? I have recently noticed that the GPS gets stuck after a while and has to be force closed (which isn't very helpful while driving). It happened to me twice today and I really would prefer it not mess up when I have important meetings to get to.

Jerry,
Came here to post about battery usage, and noticed you have a new update! (rawr!) So will be flashing here soon. :D

Anyways, wanted to say one of the things I love the most about BACKside is how long my battery lasts. Lovin' this... 2 days and sitting at 56% battery!!

I don't use my phone that heavily hehe. A few phone calls here and there, no games (unless I'm at an appointment somewhere and bored in a waiting room), less than 30 installed user apps, I get a few text messages here and there but most of them come from World of Warcraft Customer Service tweets and Severe Weather tweets during tornado season (I don't use any type of Twitter app. They just go straight to my SMS and are strictly informational), GPS and Sync is always off, Wifi on unless I leave the house. Most, if not all, of the fancy animations are disabled, I keep the screen lighting at it's lowest setting most times, and I'm running at 787/245MHz with the OnDemand governor. Although I more than likely could get away with stock settings with the OC.

I was always under the impression that 480/787Mhz using the SMARTA$$V2 governor was the optimal way to go, but maybe not. What do you guys think, I've often seen messages about how HIGH you can push the CPU, but not much regarding what are the optimal performance settings??

You've ran good with this car before? If not it could be interference from the radio with so much going on it can easily happen.

Yes, the bluetooth worked fine in my car before. I took a backup prior to flashing BACKside. The sequence went something like:

  1. Root and Backup
  2. Flash BACKside
  3. Noticed bluetooth issues with BACKside
  4. Restore backup
  5. Bluetooth fine after restoring backup
  6. Reflash BACKside
  7. Bluetooth issues return
  8. Restore backup
  9. Bluetooth fine after restoring backup
  10. Flash Harmonia
  11. Bluetooth issues return
  12. Restore backup
  13. Bluetooh fine after restoring backup
  14. Flash BobZ
  15. Bluetooth issues return
  16. Restore backup
  17. Bluetooth fine after restoring backup

There was a Mirage and Quatrimus flash in there somewhere too.

Problem is, I HATE the stock phone. So slow, so unresponsive. I really wish I could use one of these ROMs. I have gone as far as installing BACKside or Harmonia on the weekends (I don't drive MY car ever on the weekend) and then restore the stock backup on Monday.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I was wondering if I could make a suggestion. I would like to be able to personalize the lockscreen more. Such as if the time is displayed, alarm, etc. Kind of like go locker maybe? idk if that is possible, but it would be awesome!
The reason I simply do not use go locker is it is easy to bypass by just holding the power button down and hitting the home button.

btw, I figured out after rebooting a couple of times my keyboard got bigger. strange huh? dont know why it was so small...anyways....its normal size now =]

A nice option would be to be able to back up your cyogen settings and restore when you have to wipe rather than going through all the settings. I love all the customizations and use them all but having to wipe every time and redo them all kinda sucks. Link2sd is getting to me because of that lately. I had a big eye opening moment recently which killed my patience I haven't been able to get pass. One reason I've been a bit snappy to some people, sorry. If magpie gets implemented and works as I hope that will alleviate the need to do full wipe so here's fingers crossed.

Link2sd don't play nice across Rom updates on some handsets. Ben is one of the users who have to do a full wipe every time or else Link2sd won't work right. Other users (such as myself) are fortunate enough to not have that issue.

Glad you got your keyboard size issue worked out, sounds like you didn't do a full wipe/format at some point, and the old keyboard layout was left behind.

I'll see what I can do about adding those customization features to the lockscreen, but as always, no promises! ;)
(my way of saying, I'll get it done, just don't know how long it will take me :p)

I am definitely looking into magpie, but there are some other issues that have had my attention lately. Example, no ums in recovery has always grated on me (even though I prefer adb for file transfers, it's soooo much faster), so I'm working on my own version of CWM for the OV (of course it's green :p). Example 2, radio, I haven't flashed the new radio to my personal phone since we can't backup the old radio (never flash without backing up). Example 3, headsets w/o mic, with the new laws against cell phone usage while driving, I think this is a big issue. Example 4, official CM integration, we are close, but it's been a nightmare getting here! ;)

May I offer an old but tried-and-true solution to lack of space here? Use TitaniumBackup or MyBackup to backup and then uninstall apps you rarely use. I mean seriously, there is no way you could possibly use every app you have installed every day (if you have so many you require links2sd). When you do need a rarely used app, restore it, use it, back it up, then uninstall it. This gives you virtually unlimited storage space. ;)

One issue solved, UMS (USB Mass Storage) has not worked on BobZhome's recovery. I found the issue with help from Blarf, and have fixed it in my new Green version. I don't know if this will work on newer screens, so if you get a blank screen when attempting to boot into recovery, just reboot the phone and flash a different recovery for now. Will test myself as soon as I get my hands on my sister-in-laws newer OV. ;)

Note- I changed the select back to the home key, I'm afraid the camera key will break from usage since it's a two stage button. And no, I don't care if you don't like green! :p

I will be refining it, I alluded to that in a previous post. ;)

I plan on removing what is not needed by the average user (it only takes 20 seconds to flash a recovery, so advanced users can switch easily enough if they are missing something, and can do so via adb while still in recovery). I also plan on adding some all-in-one options, such as wipe cache + dalvik-cache, format boot/system/data/cache + wipe dalvik-cache (in case of missed symlinks), and I want to make the advanced backup/restore options more visible. And I'm working on the ability to theme it to your liking, Mr Green Hater :p. BTW- green on black is a throwback to 1979 when I took my first computer course, using terminals to connect to the mainframe at the school's admin building. Remember the good old days of monochrome terminal monitors?

Note- If I wanted to be tied down to a single theme, I would have bought an iCrap. :)

I'm also looking to port some of zefie's xionia sauce, especially the fix for lge-factory-reset. I might even throw in a touch-gui, the basis of detecting screen touches is already in there.

Sweet! I remember you hinting about the touchscreen a little bit ago, sounds very cool. And theming the recovery? Beyond cool!

I dig why you like your color scheme, I just like to joke about it. I've only been out of the Army for maybe five years, but it feels like yesterday.

10 years after that first computer course, I got out of the Army, and not a moment too soon. They were still using punch-cards!

Note- Don't ever forget to send the 8" floppy backup with the courier to the General, man did I get my a** chewed that one time! The only time I ever spoke to a General while in the army, and it was not a pleasant memory. The pretentious bastard actually came to my unit to chew on it in person! ;)
