Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Just one question if I may... does the new updater auto backup for you? I didn't notice it in the vid and was wondering if it was doing a backup silently or not.

The icon issue is probably related to the options I added to the latest build to show/hide icons. I didn't include code for the airplane icon, I'll have to see about fixing that.

@129160: 3G is fine for me, and haven't heard anyone else complain about it. Is it a persistant issue, or does it change over time?

every now and then the icon would just disappear and internet would be gone....
I'll keep an eye out on it today.

Thanks.

btw, what is the process of downloading a rom update?
its not in any of the guides.

he keeps an updated download link in the first post, and he also has a bullet in the first post titled "Updating from a previous IHO BACKside build"

If the icon is dissappearing, and you are loosing internet ath the same time, then the icon is dissappearing because you lost internet. Sounds like you have some 3G connection issues in your area atm. ;)

To download the latest update, open your app drawer, and click the BacksideUpdater. :p

Noob here. I have a stock phone and updated with the new VM security update. I followed the instructions in the "ZV9 for the technically challenged" thread. I flashed the newest CM7 ROM, gapps, and the green machine theme (in that order).

However, now when I boot up the phone, it's stuck in the flashing Green Android Robot screen that says "Before Flashing Always Backup". After about 30 seconds, the screen freezes. I have to remove the battery to get a response.

Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: I can still boot into recovery. My next step is to restore to stock.

Wipe phone, flash rom and gapps, reboot phone and let it fully boot, reboot into recovery, flash green machine theme and reboot. If you try to flash theme with rom and gapps with no reboot between it will hang.

You must be patient, young Grasshopper. 30 seconds is nowhere near long enough. The first time you boot your phone after flashing a custom rom it can take significantly longer than you're used to. Wait ten minutes before you yank the battery.

That ought to have been long enough...
Did you check the md5 of the file you downloaded? Might be a bad download, might be a bad flash...Trust me, putting the effort in to get this working is so going to be worth it.

When I turn one of my bluetooth devices it used to automatically pair up with my VM Stock ROM, that doesn't happen now with BACKside. I actually have to go into the bluetooth settings and tell my phone what device to pair with. Once I do that bluetooth works great, but is there some setting I'm missing that lets my devices pair up automatically with BACKside?

md5 is clean for the file.

Question: Is it safe to do the "wipe data / factory reset" option from the bobzohme recovery? The thread sticky says "DONT DO A FACTORY RESET", but I thought that was doing the reset through the phone's actual menu.

EDIT: Found the answer to my own question. Yes, it is safe. I am going to wipe my phone and then reinstall BACKside & gapps ONLY. I will reboot and then see what happens.

EDIT2: YES IT WORKS YES YES YES YES YES. thank you all. Now I will install the greenmachine theme and go from there!

Two Things:
1. What exactly do you need Jerry from LG to get the headphone/mic port fully good? I'd like to attempt to talk to them to get information needed. I really would like my squareup device to work.

2. Using the touch recovery i was able to use cdma workshop to get my MSL code (did you know android debugging is broke in your rom?)
Using the MSL code and touch recovery running I did a backup using the qualcomm of my radio PRL (and probably other junk) and then wrote the latest downloadable spring prl 51085 that I could find (Wife's is 51086 but apparently very little changed according to a website that analyzes changes)

Seemed much easier than doing the virgin updated method recently discussed, and allows you to put any PRL you want. Now I get to see if my battery drains as much at work as usual with data enabled (usually turn it off or I lose 50% or more battery in an 8 hour day) (hint, nice option to be able to enable would be to have data disabled when screen is off after maybe a few minute delay)

Jerry, there seems to be an intermittent issue that when I want to get into my phone, and i hit any button, it displays the home screen and doesn't respond at all. This happens rarely, maybe once a day, and I have to yank the battery to fix it. Any ideas?

Try going into menu-settings-cyanogenmod settings-display, uncheck rotation animation.

Personally, I left rotation animations on, set the screen orientation to portrait, and unchecked all Accelerometer rotations except 0 degrees. Now, it only rotates to Landscape when I'm using an app that explicitly requires it such as Netflix (which stopped working recently) or Angry Birds. No more screen lockups either. Not sure if this is preferable or what, but it seems to work for me.

Had this happen to me as well, but that was before I updated the rom. Will have to see if it still exists.

I was confused on how to update the rom, I thought it would be more complicated. Glad it was so easy.

btw, My 3g issue so far today has been gone. Guess yesterday was just weird.
My sister has a virgin mobile phone as well. She had problems too yesterday and she is not on any custom rom.
just a virgin mobile issue. Spoke to soon ;) guess I am just paranoid of the rom. I'm really new to all of this. Not saying I don't trust your skills....ill just shut up now. sry jerry.

Random fact. Pringles rock.
