Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Two Things:
1. What exactly do you need Jerry from LG to get the headphone/mic port fully good? I'd like to attempt to talk to them to get information needed. I really would like my squareup device to work.

2. Using the touch recovery i was able to use cdma workshop to get my MSL code (did you know android debugging is broke in your rom?)
Using the MSL code and touch recovery running I did a backup using the qualcomm of my radio PRL (and probably other junk) and then wrote the latest downloadable spring prl 51085 that I could find (Wife's is 51086 but apparently very little changed according to a website that analyzes changes)

Seemed much easier than doing the virgin updated method recently discussed, and allows you to put any PRL you want. Now I get to see if my battery drains as much at work as usual with data enabled (usually turn it off or I lose 50% or more battery in an 8 hour day) (hint, nice option to be able to enable would be to have data disabled when screen is off after maybe a few minute delay)

1- we need the schematics and associated gpio's for the 3 wire headset jack, as well as the changes to the frameworks (which they are not required to give out, they only have to release the kernel source). I have actually spent a couple of weeks worth of hours investigating this, and it's still pretty unclear exactly how LGE works it. I would like to get it working since so many states are passing hands-free laws, we need a working setup. I've even attempted to use the HTC 3-wire headset codebase, but no luck. :(

2- android debugging is not broken in BACKside, I use it everyday. If you are referring to recovery, then that's a different story. I'm working on my first recovery now (see the past two pages of posts ;))

Last year I switched to a hybrid PRL that combines a Sprint list, and the VM list. I went from only being able to connect to one tower while at home, to being able to connect to three different towers from there. Note- this doesn't always equal battery savings, since tower hopping actually eats more juices. But if you are lucky enough to have a single tower closer, and the PRL swap allows you to connect to it primarily, then you should notice some battery savings. ;)

Had this happen to me as well, but that was before I updated the rom. Will have to see if it still exists.

I was confused on how to update the rom, I thought it would be more complicated. Glad it was so easy.

btw, My 3g issue so far today has been gone. Guess yesterday was just weird.
My sister has a virgin mobile phone as well. She had problems too yesterday and she is not on any custom rom.
just a virgin mobile issue. Spoke to soon ;) guess I am just paranoid of the rom. I'm really new to all of this. Not saying I don't trust your skills....ill just shut up now. sry jerry.

Random fact. Pringles rock.

Please don't shut up! Seriously, your feedback is valuable to helping make things work better for everyone! I remember when I first flashed a ROM, I was so nervous, but as long as you read first, and make backups, our little OVs are almost unbrickable!

VM has a twitter account, and they often post when there are known 3g issues, so I recommend checking there first if you have any problems.

If you think it's easy to upgrade the ROM now, wait till next week when I release my new recovery and BacksideUpdater with Auto-Installation! (see video above) ;)

The Truth About Pringles: The can needs to be bigger! :p

When I turn one of my bluetooth devices it used to automatically pair up with my VM Stock ROM, that doesn't happen now with BACKside. I actually have to go into the bluetooth settings and tell my phone what device to pair with. Once I do that bluetooth works great, but is there some setting I'm missing that lets my devices pair up automatically with BACKside?

Just my skills with the BT protocol. I apologize for not being better with the bluetooth coding, it's definitely not my strong suit. :o

Hey Jerry, I just came back to the ov after like 5 months in Triumph hell, when I previously used the ov I was a total lurker on this forum and just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work on this awesome ROM. one thing though, after using "simplified" to get through the root, ROM process, my boot animation is completely static, however everything is working perfectly., is this due to the different screens?

You must have installed the 04012012 build, better known as the April Fools build. ;)

You can check by going into Settings>>About phone>>Build ID or Build date

Delete /system/media/AprilFools.zip or update to the latest build: 04092012
Just open your app drawer and launch the BacksideUpdater. ;)

I downloaded, wiped cache, dalvik, flashed, rebooted 3 times, my wifi and signal strength are white but not green. Is this an issue?

Well with all this talk of Pringles I was forced to stop and get a can on way to work! They didn't sound like Lego's so I got them. mmm sour cream and onion Pringles.!!!

Try restarting the status bar under
Settings>>CyanogenMod>>Interface>>Status bar tweaks

If that doesn't work, white means you are not connected to Google services, and usually means you don't have internet even though you do have network connection. Try turning off wifi on your phone, then turning it on again. You may need to restart your wireless router as well, many brands need to be rebooted from time to time. ;)

Was I supposed to do install update or install zip from sd?

Good news, thanks to nijel, I've overcome a hurdle with the auto-install project!

PMs between us (paraphrased):
jerry to nijel: would you test this new auto-install method for me?
nijel to jerry: sure....I tested, and the file didn't copy right...leave it on the sdcard
jerry to nijel: but the standard way is to copy it to /cache (blah blah blah)
nijel to jerry: just leave it on the sdcard, recovery will find it
jerry to nijel: but then I'll have to rewrite install.c to mount the sdcard (blah blah)
nijel to jerry: I just leave it on the sdcard, but we may be using different methods
jerry to himself: here comes 3 hours of debugging (mutter grumble).... wait, it works

@nijel: Sometimes you have to hit me with a brick over the head! ;)
The method works fine leaving it anywhere on the sdcard, no muss, no fuss!

Update next week should be the last you'll ever have to do manually on BACKside! ;)

I've submitted an inquiry to LG.
Hello,
I am working with a developer and he is interested in a little information on how to program for the sound jack on this mobile device. We would be very grateful if we could get this information, the application base covers nearly a thousand users at a minimum. This information is probably identical across all of the Optimus variations, as it is the headphone jack device they probably all share. These are the questions he has:
We need the schematics and associated gpio's for the 3 wire headset jack, as well as the changes to the frameworks. I have actually spent a couple of weeks worth of hours investigating this, and it's still pretty unclear exactly how LGE works it. With the debugging mode, when its turned on, and I connect to the phone with workshop it doesn't answer, and I read in other threads that with this rom the only way to get workshop to work is to go back to the virgin rom, or to find a recovery that works with debugging. I found that the 670NH doesn't work (what I've used til now), IHO recovery doesn't work, however drews touch recovery did work and workshop got a response. Then the qualcomm tool also only was able to communicate when I was in that same recovery, not in the CM7 with debugging enabled.

Jerry would it be possible to implement nijels auto link2sd update fix in your auto updater. He was telling me about it but I haven't looked much into his app yet since I find out after I updated and haven't had a need yet. It would be much appreciated.

That's a known issue with those ROMs and recoveries. Xionia recovery works too. And Jerry is working on adding QPST/CDMA Workshop connectivity to his new recovery so we will have one more choice.

Just flash old Backside with QtADB Update ROM function and see if it works for you first.
