Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Today I gave magpie a good test flashibg tvall's iho magpie ROM and it works great. Moves dalvik to /sd-ext and Market can see and update sd-ext apps. The only thing I will miss from Link2SD is sorting/listing apps by location. If this can be implemented in ROMs "Manage apps" applet, let say by adding "sd-ext" and "internal" tabs to it we can get rid of Link2SD for good.
Even fixed QtADB Apps page to list installed and moved apps with magpie.

Jerry, do you read this? I approve!!!

Very cool stuff! Hey nijel, is QtADB built for the V specifically? I tried it on my daughter's M835 today, and while it recognized the phone none of the CWM stuff in recovery worked. I'm just curious...

In recovery mode only mounts/unmounts and Flash ROM are active. The other functions just doesn't make sense in recovery mode so I disabled them.

CWM stuff works only if CWM recovery is installed on device. It detects presence of /cache/recovery/last_log file and checks if the file contains "extendedcommand" word. If one of the two condidions is false then CWM recovery is not installed and CWM stuff are disabled. BTW if anybody knows a better way to detect CWM recovery installed from within Android OS I want to hear it.

What about lib? Those can be large files. Does it also move the apk?

AFAIK, grepping the last_log file is the only way to determine if CWM is being used. And of course, if you flash a new recovery, it won't be shown accurately till after the first reboot (since it's just a log file). ;)

@nijel, turns out my original issue wasn't with recovery, but rather with using RecoverySystem, since it requires the update_package to be on either /data or /cache, I just used an exec instead to write the command file and reboot. ;)

I tried searching for an answer but hard to do on phone so wondering what I'm not doing right. Made a theme on UOT Kitchen and flashed it via recovery. On reboot the 3g icon alternates between the normal one and the themed one. The signal icon shows the themed one briefly and then goes to the normal one. Running newest backside and have tried theme and rom setting under statusbar tweaks. Thanks for any help

Also tried pushing the files via adb

Glad you figured it out.:)

In QtADB I offer the user to reboot to recovery after flashing, but even if he doesn't and right away executes some recovery commands and recovery is not CWM based, it just wont do anything, it wont break anything b/c everything is done with extendedcommand file and it wont recognize it. No harm will be done to the phone.

I just added the ability to show/hide the 3g icon in the last build. Looks like I've got some more debugging to do. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Oh no problem. My first time cooking a theme and thought I was doing something wrong. I remembered seeing the icons were misbehaving in this build but didn't cross my mind kthat was the issue.

Sorry guys another question. haha. Ok, I have the exact same apps as before, same wallpaper, everything. How do I know? I made a list of all my settings including all my apps on paper. Yes I am crazy ha.

Anyways, I am noticing that my battery life is really bad compared to the stock rom. Maybe its just me, but I use quick settings and it shows the battery percentage to seem to drop every time i touch my phone. The % is the same in the android settings as well. I remember reading something about calibrating the battery after you flash a rom? How would I do that? Also, I was thinking about getting a extended battery, is that worth it? Every time I searched I only came up with people looking for another oem battery, not an extended. I don't care if the battery makes my phone really thick.

btw, looking under battery use like cell standby and things there is nothing that would indicate a problem. I keep gps off and all that stuff unless I use it. I haven't even touched my phone for 3 hours after I charged it fully, and its already down to 78%!

It takes a couple of days for you to build up enough info for the battery on a new ROM. Don't worry it will straighten out itself.
If after a week it's still not looking right then check to see if you have a rouge app. I usually turn the screen brightness down as far as I can (I still can see it fine without squinting), I have a sync manager set to turn on Auto Sync every 4 hours for only a minute (this is all I need to sync what I use), I turn off 3G and everything else unless I need them.
This is how you get good battery off charger times with the V.

ES Task manager has a power optimize function. It's about doubled my time off charger, and I'm notorious around here for having the worst battery life possible for a V.

im trying to update my sisters phone, but when i press the power button it doesnt have the option to boot into recovery, does anyone know why?? and what are the buttons to manually boot into recovery??

Settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Interface->Power Prompt, check it.

or

Hold down volume_down+home+power keys till you see LG logo.

I just installed the custom ROM to my phone, but there is no Android Marketplace/ Google Play icon. I reinstalled the ROM again and it's still not there? All I have that is remotely similar is the "market apps installer" in the Applications list.
