Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

As others have noted, I do not mess with the phone itself, other than to add new CM code, which has primarily involved the T9 dialer. Nothing has been changed on the phone itself, in fact we use the stock ril libraries and associated binaries (ril = radio interface layer, it's your cell phone itself).

Returning to stock for a day will help determine if something has been messed up on your custom install. If the stock ROM works without issue, and you still want to run a custom ROM, do a backup of your apps with Titanium Backup, boot into recovery and do a full wipe/format and then reinstall the ROM and gapps.

Although you may not have installed apps that directly affect the phone, many apps gain access to it, and may affect it. You can search through your apps paying attention to the permissions each has. You may find one is causing issues, and you can disable the phone related permissions on that app, or uninstall it to see if it is really the culprit.

I returned to a stock version of the rom from here, so we'll see how things go. I'll leave it as is for a few days and not download any new apps other than updating the ones that came with the rom. I called my phone once from my landline and it took foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr for my cell to even acknowledge the incoming call. 3G speeds are hideous atm.

No, it was ported to the V from the P500, but also works on the Optimus Net. Although his code for it is right there in the github, theoretically it could be compiled for and handset. Theoretically......

Isn't the V and the P500 the same, but P500 is GSM and V is CDMA?

I did.

On a happy note link2sd updated today and I had a nerdgasm. New feature where it scans your partition for apps and relinks them. It's designed specifically for rom changes and updates. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Time to revert to an older build, and update to test this new feature, I'm going to partition my SD card, install Link2sd once again, link all my apps, and then test it out.. im going to try both the usual "if you dont have link2sd" flash, and a full wipe/flash, to test the functionality. Will report back after I catch some Zzzz's.

I would really like your input you always do a great job at that and I haven't had time to have my phone down. Been real busy doing a sermon that was partially reliant on me, so I thought, and my videos but turned out to be all on me and went real well I edited everything together and ran smooth and everyone loved it and I actually got recognition. :D

I'd do it, but haven't had the time. Besides, with my phone service off right now, the wife and I are both using our phones as wifi phones with GrooveIP (new free version out, btw, go check it out!) Due to that, instead of playing with my loyal V, I've been noodling around with my new (secondhand) Evo 4G. Again, as a wifi phone. ;)

Backside is clean and responsive as always, BUT...

Having a small problem with the 0502 build in which when I drag icons and drop them, it brings up the uninstall prompt every time.

Anyone else having this issue?

Jerry,

I'm not sure if you saw my thread (link here)about having problems with Podcast players. In a nutshell I said:

I was using the trial version of BeyondPod for listening to podcasts. I found that it was very unreliable when it came to pausing and resuming where I left off. I noticed that when I was on the screen with the controls that the little bar that fills from left to right while listening never seemed to move nor did the elapsed time increase.

I decided to give Listen (by Google) a try. I've found that it does the same thing. I can get the timeline to work if I tap on the timeline. The bar then grows and the elapsed time increases one second at a time.

User bryan314 informed me:

This is a bug present in all iho based roms except bobzhome. Something bob does fixes this. Any audio app that uses Androids media system will have it. A work around is to skip foward a few seconds.

I was also told that I should use this thread to report 'problems' so I'm posting it here in case you missed it though you probably already know about it.

Hi Jerry, Thanks for creating this incredible ROM! It so amazing, I cannot imagine ever going back to stock...

I hope this is not the wrong thread to report bugs; I may have stumbled upon one. Every other day or so, the top two-thirds of the screen manages to somehow gets "stuck" from whatever the screen was before. In this particular instance it was the dialer app (I have encountered this problem with other apps too, for example slacker radio, so I doubt it is an app-specific problem). I had just finished a phone-call and put my phone to sleep by hitting the power button. However when I turned the screen back on, the pattern lock was only partly visible because the top two-thirds of the screen was stuck with the call-end screen from the dialer app. I was still able to authenticate with the pattern lock even though most of it is hidden behind the superimposed dialer screen image, because I remember where the pattern dots are roughly supposed to be on the screen. The fact that I am able to log back into the phone using the pattern lock despite the fact that I can hardly see it seems to indicate that the touchscreen is responsive and in the "non-buggy" present state, but somehow the display isn't catching up and is stuck with an older static image in the the top two-thirds of the screen. The only way to fix the problem is to restart the phone. To better give you an idea of what's happening I took two pictures of my phone right after the incident. However because I am a new forum poster, I am unable to attach any images here.

I hope the mods will allow me to allude to the url in this manner:

About my phone: LG Optimus V (with the newer Hitachi screen), BACKside-IHO-VM670-04172012 ROM; Most settings are default, very few and simple apps like news and radio, hardly any modifications, except under CyanogenMod Settings>Lockscreen>Unlock Options>"Skip on security" is selected, so I don't have to swipe to unlock when the pattern lock is enabled)

I need an update. :p

Jerry said he's not updating till he fixes this issue:

FYI- I'm going to be spending the next couple of weeks attempting to fix a glaring security hole in Android. Downloads are started without asking the user's permission, resulting in the Not-Compatible drive-by vulnerability to be exploited more and more recently.

I posted about this in several forums a few months ago, but no one seemed to take me seriously then. Now it's become a true problem I cannot ignore any longer. This drive-by vulnerability allows an infected webpage to take over your phone if you simply load the webpage up in your browser. With the combination of Flash-Player vulnerabilities announced last nite, this is a truly huge problem. Just visiting a bad webpage could allow your phone to be taken over, sending sms to premium numbers, stealing your personal info, and even initiating phone calls to premium numbers. And that's just the tip of the iceburg!

I will not be working on other issues until I manage to get a properly working interstitial dialog inserted into the download process. TBH, I can't believe AOSP has allowed this behaviour, and I will do what I can to get it changed upstream. Till then, please please be careful when visiting websites you are not familiar with. If you see a download beginning in the background without your interaction (ie you didn't click on a link to download something, it just starts on it's own), your best bet is to pull your battery, put it back in and boot into recovery, then do a full wipe/format and re-install the ROM. Hopefully you have TB backups to re-install your apps afterwards. This is actually dangerous enough for me to recommend such drastic measures!

In terminal emulator type:
su
fix_permissions

If you get an error after the first time, close the app and try again.

Tell me what happens after that, and NEVER do fix permissions option in recovery mode. That usually causes more fc's
