Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Hey guys! So far.. this ROM is great! I do think it's better than aosp CM7 IMO (has more customizability =]). Any tips on overclocking? I've got mine on Use JIT, Enable surface dithering, Lock messaging app in mem, then governor: ONDEMAN, min CPU 122, max CPU 787, and set on boot ENABLED. What does "Allow purging of assets", "VM heap size" and the other governor settings do? o.O

EDIT: And also, how do I add talk to text on here?

As far as speech to text you have to download that from the market. At least that's what I did. I downloaded Google's version as I'm so used to it.

Purging os assets means it will recover memory faster. VM heap size has to do with the amount of memory set aside for the virtual machine (dalvik), leave it at 32. The various governors will ramp up/down your cpu based on various conditions, more than a single post can go over, so goolge that one. ;)

Ok, reflashed with the new version of BACKside (8/3/11 version). See the new startup animation (nice). I followed the following instructions that Yogi-4 provided earlier:

 1. Move down and select ‘Wipe cache partition’.
 2. Move down and select ‘Advanced’ then select ‘Wipe Dalvik Cache’.
 3. Hit your ‘back button, then go down to ‘wipe data/factory reset’.

 4. Then go down to and select ‘mounts and storage’
 5. Go down and select ‘format boot’. Again scroll down and select ‘yes’.
 6. Do the same for ‘format system’, ‘format data’ and ‘format cache’.
 7. Hit the back button and go down to and select ‘install zip from sdcard’.
 8. Then select ‘choose zip from sdcard’.
Still having an issue with the wifi resetting (although it is not as frequent it appears, but need to allow more time to observe, been busy).
Also should I be concerned with what AndyOpie150 observed (a few posts up):
On his phone: "I ran Root Checker on my phone because your root user and root group id's don't look right. On my phone this is what I got-The Root user id:uid=0(root), The Root group id: gid=0(root)"
On my phone: "Root user id: Root not properly returning its user id
Root group id: Root not properly returning its group id".

Only change I would suggest is disable surface dithering (I don't notice much diff, it should speed things up a bit. Also raise the min CPU to 245 or even up to 480, the Optimus V doesn't have undervolting, so setting the min CPU to too low doesn't have any benefits, except it may even take the phone longer to wake up & ramp up when it needs the CPU. Ondemand favors battery life slightly, interactive & smartass favor performance a little more at the cost of battery life. If it's not noticeable, then stick with ONDEMAND.

Sorry, no way to uninstall, you have to do a fresh install. If you just wipe cache and dalvik cache, you won't have to reinstall your apps. Just flash the ROM again. ;)

Wait so if I just do wipe cache and dalvik cache, all of my data will still be there?? No need to back anything up? = O

Open terminal emulator and type in su and hit return. If you get a # sign, you are rooted. ;)

Definitely working. Wasn't sure if my root was messed up though based on the comments earlier. Feeling ok though about that.
Just want to resolve the intermittent wifi issues, although from observation, appears to be more stable.

It's always a good idea to do a backup, trust me it can save you major headaches! ;)

Yes, your data will still be there so long as you don't format data.

Sorry if I might have caused you any undue stress. When I had rooted my first V(It's now a paper weight)in another thread All seemed ok,then one day no root. Lake of experience led me down the road to ruin(ruin my "V" that is). I just try to point out things that don't look right so others can avoid having to go thru the stress that I did(I am a worry wart, just ask JerryScript)after eventually bricking my 1st "V".

No worries at all. I am pretty much a newbie myself, so I'll take any advice where I can. And certainly understand this isn't anyone's day job, so appreciate the time and effort everyone is putting into this, including the HUGE work JerryScript put into that build!

Hey Andy regarding your "paper weight"... I ran across this thread in the Optimus M section and wonder if maybe a similar process (LGNPST) can be done to unbrick your V.... check it out... more than likely will need a diff .dll file but I figure its worth a shot...

Does anyone else have problems with the camera app on the LG Optimus V?

My pictures are always too dark (default exposure setting is too low) and most of the exposure settings in the camera app don't work at all.

I found a post on a forum where someone else reported the issue, and towards the bottom it's supposedly been fixed already.

Issue 3625 - cyanogenmod - Pictures taken with camera are too dark - CyanogenMod Android ROM - Google Project Hosting

Is there any way I can apply this patch myself? This is the only major problem that I have with Cyanogenmod on the LG Optimus V.

You can apply the patch yourself, then build from IHO's repository. ;)

If you don't feel comfy doing that, I'll look into the patch and see if it would help with our camera's hardware.

If I knew how to do that, I would. I just have no idea where to start.

Are there any good tutorials that explain how to patch and compile it?

I read the entire thread about the camera patch. It sounds exactly like the problem I'm having. But like you said, I'm not sure if it does anything for the LG Optimus V.

The +1 exposure setting seems to be perfect. As I go up the list in the exposure settings clicking each value, it seems every other setting doesn't work and multiple white dots get stuck in the menu.

Thanks! I can use all the help I can get.I'll try that first chance I get tomorrow.

I looked into that patch, and it appears as if it has already been commited into the CM7 source, so it should be in this ROM. I will double check before the next build.

If you are interested in learning how to build this ROM from source, here's a good starting point:

That camera patch was for the ZTE Blade: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/85f5f21b2489862dc4721b7fb79328e1709c9caf
So it's not included in the OV builds. I will include the patch in my next build. Info on my builds can be see here: CM7 BobZ - Prepaid Android

EDIT: new build up
Changelog:

 1. tweak WIFI - Update init.thunderc.rc to include ip_renew service
 2. tweak Camera - Set correct default exposure, remove non working values and move range so 0 is the middle(default) value in libcamera.

Hey JerryScript, I downloaded voice pod from the market so I wouldn't have to keep pulling the phone out of my pocket. I looked at all the instructions and the voice commands you could give it(its really kind of cool). Plugged in the stock headset and the app didn't appear to work in the headset mode. Worked without the headset.Called someone with the headset on,nothing. Pulled headset and carried on a normal conversation. It worked when listening to music. I thought I would double check and flashed a Froyo ROM and the headset worked just fine.

I keep having to go in by hand and blow stuff away in the .Trashes on my SD card. Anyway to make the deletes actually, um... delete, instead.

Also, I just flashed that newest BACKside, over a previous BACKside... looks good. I'm hot to test the BT. So, I forgot how to load the latest Mod/Recovery (from page 1). Can someone post instructions for me?

Incidentally, I was having an ok experience with the last ROM, but over the last couple days saw the recharging sucked... last night it took literally ALL NITE to charge me. This one already looks like it's charging faster.

Thanks guys!

:D All I have to say is this rom with the Xionia v014 any kernel is the creamiest, smoothest and stable intermingling of rom and kernel I have experienced in my search for perfection with CM7 on the Optimus V. :D

Thanks to jroxas17 for his post.

@jroxas17, There is a flashable zip to swap the keys. I'm a noob to forums so I'm not sure how to link but its on the same page for the development of the kernel. That or you can google Optimus V Key Swap Signed. :D

Looks like your ROM is coming along great! The IHO repo is a blessing for the Optimus phones, and seeing more great ROMs built off of it makes me smile! :)

Please let us know how the wifi tweak works out. Blarf doesn't think it's a dhcp watchdog issue, and I haven't been able to reproduce the bug at all.

I'll look into that. The trash files are set up like the trash can on most PCs, you delete stuff to it, but it doesn't automatically empty so that you have the chance to recover something if you accidentally delete it.

okay I have a but of a problem.. I was trying to update my apps then suddenly I got an error saying my device has insufficient data space. I have like 90 mbs free on my internal space!. Any solution to this problem? I then deleted some apps and it worked. Apparently when I reach about 60 mbs, it just thinks it's full? Any thoughts? =/
