Root [ROM][WIP]CM10.0.0.l0-BobZ

Yeah i agree, that's why I suggested it, but it doesn't make any difference to anyone who's GPS isn't working, the problem is deeper than settings.

i found that the more apps and stuff i added, the more effed up things got. backlight issue got worse gps failed etc.. but i also found that if i made a cm recovery backup then formatted every partition possible including internal sd and wiped everything and reflashed the rom then did an advanced restore only restoring /data that everything worked again and i had all the apps.

side note: i was using the recovery.tar from last pg build. i think it has more format options than the one from bobz build. not sure since i haven't used the old recovery in a long time.
so in my opinion theres something hiding in there somewhere thats not getting deleted or overwritten unless you format everything including internal sd that causes conflict and or corruption.

so everything works on my phone now except front facing video and 1080p video
edit: i did still have the bug where the backlight would stay on if you didn't unlock and just checked the lockscreen. but using the lockscreen from the mihome launcher fixed that too.

Another side note: front facing camera is broken in the default camera app but it is working fine in other camera apps. Facebook camera works and here is a front facing image from Camera ZoomFX:

Side note 2: damn I'm Sexy ;)

my front facing camera works fine in the default app. only video on front facing doesn't work.
even if you do a kdz flash to stock you will find folders and files left over from the cm install you previously had. that's where the problem lies. you must format internal sd along with all other partitions or you will continue to have these issues.

it really seems like everyone experiences the rom differently

exactly! because their not formatting "everything" and their previous installs are leaving traces behind. all of our phones are identical, it's fairly obvious, to me anyway.
format everything you can possibly format including and especially internal sd, excluding external sd then reflash rom then restore /data only from your backup if you want and all will work.
if your using boot buddy that could be an issue too but as i don't use it i couldn't really comment on it or determine if it's going to cause an issue.

umm all I ever do is a factory reset lol

If you go back to stock and don't factory reset, then yea, you'll find traces of cm...

Unvrick guide only erases /system
/data is untouched

all our phones are identical. the rom is identical. the only thing different is the leftover folders and files.
even people who flashed from the same stock version had different issues. so that's not the problem.
i had multiple issues but after formatting /sdcard then reflashing and restoring /data i had everything i had before except the issues. just sayin
when i tried to do a factory reset alone then reflash then restore data only the issues remained.

Hey guys so i tried to install a new font (which i've done before perfectly fine) but when i rebooted the phone i got suck on the cyanogenmod boot animation. Anyway to bypass this or will i have to use the unbrick/unroot guide?

Look he has a point after reflashing firmware at times boot animation would be changed wallpaper etc

Not necessarily, I'll go check LGs servers for hardware revisions ;)

factory reset doesn't delete everything. you will still find leftover folders from previous install.

sorry, hes incorrect.

A factory reset wipes everything needed to be wiped, wiping it manually is just repetitive, unneeded, and just plain paranoid. lol

Factory Reset wipes:
  • data
  • cache
  • sd-ext

and system gets wiped during the install, so its covered. ;)

Now I know you're going to say but dalvik doesnt get wiped... well where does dalvik live at???? umm thats right in /cache, which we just wiped with fact reset.

Now think about all that and let it sink in. ;)

oh and to revive a old quote of mine... "All devices are not created equal!"

Just because they are the same device model, revision, etc, they are not identical. I.E. on device might handle oc'ing higher, while another wont even boot at the same freq. ;)

even if that were true, your still missing the point. factory reset doesn't delete everything. and were not all starting with the same exact clean install we thought we were.

The only thing different we run on all these phones is the original firmware we all started from before flashing.

pull the battery, put it back in, hold power ti the lg logo appears, toggle vol+ & vol- repeatedly until cwm pops up. ;)

you mean the original firmware that came on the phone when you bought it? wouldn't a kdz flash to say f version be the same even if you did come from c or d. because even people flashing cm10 from the same firmware had different issues than each other.

A factory reset wipes everything needed to be wiped
says who? i'm saying that info is wrong and that other files left on the sd card are responsible for the differences of issues and i've proven it on my phone to myself whether or not people believe me and fix their phone is irrelevant to me.

i did a factory reset then flashed the rom then restored /data and the issues where still there.
then i did the same thing except i formatted /sdcard and the issues were gone.
now think about that and let it sink in.

the other people around here may be convinced that everything you say is right and true. but i for one can think for myself and am not convinced so easily. especially when i've seen it with my own eye's.
we'll just have to agree to disagree. lol

what started this was, i flashed thedemons miui port. it had a bunch of bugs and crashes. so i did a factory reset and reflashed cm10 and restored /data and many of those same bugs and crashes were still there and contacts would crash everytime i opened it which led me on the quest to figure out what could possibly be left behind that would cause this. so i stumbled upon formatting /sdcard which fixed it and all the cm10 issues i had been having. end of story.

I wonder if this would help my camera problem.....

I regularly format my sdcard with the new recovery when I begin getting issues :p
It fixes them for me and I keep all of my app data without having to re flash the ROM :]

this with or without using something like bootbuddy???

the area on the sdcard that the phone writes info too, asecure or sum shyt like that gets wiped to during a fact reset. Now I'm not saying you've not experienced some weird issues that required the sdcard to be wiped. but typicall it does not need it.

I'm not debating with you, I'm stating known true facts, not just tooting my horn because 'I' said it to be true. lol

I rarely tell you all anything thats not a proven fact, and if/when I do, I generally state its my opinion or from my experience. ;)

And no I dont expect anyone to not think for themselves, matter of fact I encourage it. But I tend not to mislead ppl and start eve more false myths... like resetting battery stats lol.

In your case I think it was more of an app you have/had installed that saved info to the sdcard. ;)

When you restore data, was if from stock to stock, stock to cm, or cm to cm?? Generally stock to cm will cause issues.. but not always, I have personally seen it go boths ways. lol

oh and not to mention, if it were a must to wipe the sdcard on every flash, less ppl would be inclined to flash anything at all. ;) and again not saying you didnt experience issues where wiping the sdcard fix said issues for you. But its a rarity and typically not needed. ;)

I've never tried restoring data from a backup, because after I wipe my sdcard the blacklight goes away, I can record just fine, just not with the front facing camera, and everything seems to be running smoother, I'm not saying this will fix everyone's issues, I'm just saying that I believe it helps and everyone should do it once in a while, because you don't lose your app data anyways, so there's nothing you can lose from wiping it once in a while ;)

I agree with PG because I've never had to do this with any other phone, a factory reset did it for me.
I guess our phone is just, special :p
