Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

Quick question...
If I flash to stock, and try it all from scratch, it doesn't mess with partitions, right?

As long as you don't format the SDcard, you should be O-TAY.From what I gather formatting not only deletes the data on the card, but, deletes the partition as well.

Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Interface > Status bar tweaks > Alternate signal display

When I toggle the display to show the dBm number instead of bars, it's always at 85 no matter what. Is this just me, or the build?

Just now paid attention to that setting, now that you mention it.
Mine also stays stuck @ 85.
I'm using the ROVER CYAN THEME & like the status bar icons w/it,as they are functional, but,a numerical indicator inside of the signal icon would be cool, just like the battery level icon.

Flashed the Chaos kernel and it rebooted. Now has been stuck on the "Ascend" boot screen for 30 minutes. Is it just doing what its suppose to or do I have a problem?

Your phone can't handle it,I'm assuming you're talking about the 748 kernel & not the 672 (lazy) kernel.
You'll need to pull the battery & go into CWM recovery & do a wipe & re-load the ROM you were previously running.
I tried the 748 kernel,& that's what happened to me,same exact thing, stuck at the blue android ascend screen.

Yeah i just had to do that. So does that mean I need the 672 kernel? Or do you know of a different one that will work?

Depends, which ROM were you previously running & did it work OK?
For my phone,as long as I don't try to run over 710,I'm OK,anything above that my phone can't handle.
For example,I can load up BOB ZHOME'S 07082011 build, but,I had too many spontaneous reboots, probably due to this one being overclocked to 729.
Even though I ran it @710,it still rebooted,so,I reverted back to another CM7 build that topped out @ 710.

Yesterday I flashed it to the CM7.2-0728 and alot of stuff kept force closing on me. I tried the "permission Fixes" to attemt to fix the problem but with no success. So thru ROM Manager I flashed it to original with the back up I stored. Then tried to flash it to the CM 7.1 and it did what the kernel did and got stuck on the blue "Ascend" screen. So of course I had to wipe it. So what I was thinking was if I flash the kernel to the 748 perhaps CM 7.2-0728 wouldnt have that force close problem. But of couse the 748 didnt work out. Dont even know if that would have fixed it. Im new to all this but know its a learn as you go process.

the extra kernel updates are just for those who want/can run the higher OC settings, and the lazy kernel is for those who have issues wit \h 710 even. Most have no issues with the kernel that comes default (710max, default 600).

I suggest going back and formatting everything but the sdcard and reflash the rom, gapps, and if needed metroff.

i used a video on steps to wiping for CM7.1 rc1 & i notice on the video compare to my phone the the wiping factory data didnt match at all, i still went through it any way when i finally finish i started to flash cm7 you know it's loading when you see the yellow bar loading, mine kinda froze for a moment & when it pop in the yellow bar was all the way near finish. so when i finish & rebooted my phone had 1/2 of my old screen(2.1 screen) & CM7, so i reflash back to 2.1 i reloaded CWM & loaded PG's 0727 & started again & it went through no problem. i tried clocking it to 748 but after a couple of seconds it froze & rebooted, so i went @ 729 running fast & smooth. did i do something wrong @ at first? i formatted my sd then i unrooted & rerooted my phone before i loaded CWM. this new build that is out now, is it Bob's Moded one or is it PG's? for some reason mine doesnt like CM7 RC1:(

All my builds are by me ;) I will 'note' when I mod sumtin using others work.

0727 is my RC1 build, 0728 is 2.3.5 (latest CM7/android GB) Not sure what went wrong in your first attempt unless you didnt wipe data. I normally just do a factory reset/wipe data and wipe dalvik. In reality doing the factory reset/wipe date wipes dalvik too if you watch whats it does, and system gets formatted during the flash. But it never hurts to make sure it all gets done.

IMO the 0728 runs much better and it has a few new features, but nothing you cant' live w/o.

Well, I don't consider my phone unable to run a build unless I've tried to install it 4 or 5 times. Randomness is my greatest enemy when flashing, it seems...

Hi scur, I like your way of thinking, you keep at it until you find a build that works on your lazy ascend. My ascend is lazy too:rolleyes:. Reading ur posts have started to encourage me to want to try out different builds. You never know until you keep at it:).
Thanks for the encouraging posts, it gives us other lazy ascenders hope...lol

Does swype beta work on 7282011? And do you still need metro-off and Modded-Gapps
Dont see why swype wouldnt work but I dont use it so I dont know. And never needed a modded gapps with Cm7-Ascend. If you're on metro then yes you need to flash MetrOFF too.

I've had the best luck with PG's builds. With BobZ's, I always HAVE to use his lazy build, but it works great. Bob's has a nice, stable feel to it, but I like where PG has been taking things, and I can (almost) always flash his builds, though it might take a couple attempts, and this kernel flash refuses to work for me.
I always keep my contacts backed up on my Google account, and a somewhat recent copy of my TB folder, my current zips flashed, and the dload folder handy on dropbox. With that arsenal, there's nothing I can do to my Ascend that I can't recover from, and a ROM backup right before trying something can save a ton of time.
With all that, and the advice of the folks here, it's easy to be fearless and try anything, all we have to lose is a bit of time. And maybe a couple calls. :)

Would i just flash this like i normally would while installing cm7, gapps or metro off? And would this allow me to run 0728 build?
Thanks in advanced for helping me out....and thanks for making the kernel :D

If my ascend was any more lazy it would be collecting an unemployment check.... I'll for sure have to try this one out... LOL Thanks again guys. I'll post the results some time later when i get a chance to break my phone again ;)

ScurDude!,your phone has officially won the inaugural LAZY-AZ-WTF-POS award.

CONGRATULATIONS! ;)

I flashed CM7.2-0728 the gapps again, and I am still getting a force close for "android.process.media" When I try to "MetrOff" it pops up and prevents it from downloading the file. Is there any fix to this?

**Update- I went thru the applications manager and deleted all data and seems to have fixed the issue so far. Still open to other suggestions for future reference tho.

I'm using CWM Recovery 3.0.0.5,running CM7.2 07282011.
It's running sweet,no problems,It just says I'm running the 05142011 version,which I know that I'm not.
I have features on this build that weren't even available on 05142011.
I think its a ROM MANAGER/Clockworkmod or CYANOGENMOD.COM error on thier end somewhere. No biggie, just weird.
It's not a CWM or CM7 issue...It's Isaacj's kernel/boot image that is posting that date.

It's a CM7 issue, because I have the same problem on my OV.

EDIT: a dBm fix for CDMA phones was posted yesterday:https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/5782d5c0d99995804d89948cd69090d10389ecb7 , so it will be fixed in PG's next build.

So Ive worked out pretty much all the "bugs" And have CM7.2 07282011 flashed and running good. but I have one more issue. My wifi wont connect. I can turn it on and then it will turn off and wont search for a network. Possible fixes?

reset your router and try again, also if you are a cricket customer make sure you uncheck static ip in settings in the phone.
