Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

To Isaac: Just a suggestion to implement if you get the free time. Battery percentage on the notification screen, when you drag the status bar down. That would be pretty cool.

Any tips on what I can change in the CM performance settings? Last time i tinkered with it i froze my phone, what i get for messing with things i don't understand.lol

I can confirm mms is working in this build, I was able to send but I am not sure if I can recieve,im sure I will find out soon. Thank you isaac for this awsome rom. Thank you playful god for your help with the install, and last but not least thank you nuttmeg for finding the correct apn settings needed for metro users. Very much appreciative of the effort put into all this. keep up the awsome work guys.

I'm a bit confused. Is this safe to update to? I'm running icarus now, but I'm looking to get more speed without bricking my handset.

I uploaded a copy of the CM7-Ascend ROM with the mms fix applied and working. Only thing needed to make it work is:

  1. Download the zip.
  2. unzip it and move the inner folder to /clockworkmod/backup/ on your sdcard.
  3. Reboot in to recovery n scroll down to backup & restore, restore, select the folder you just put there and run restore.
  4. Reboot.
  5. Once booted goto the app drawer and open Voice Dialer.
  6. Say 'OPEN A P N', a box will pop up with MetroPCS and Cricket
  7. Choose your carrier.
  8. Edit the username and enter you # where it says 'yourphonenumber'.
  9. Click menu and save.
  10. Enjoy mms on 2.3.3 Gingerbread!!
isaac please feel free to use this to update your links, as I did nothing compared to the work you've done on CM7. I just thought this would make it easier for some of the newbies.

Note: All credit goes to isaac and all those who helped him bring us CM7 on the Ascend!!! All I did with nuttmeg's (nuttmeg figured it out) help was get it installed and made a backup and zipped it :)

CWM 3 will be needed to flash this zip.

CM7 with MMS Fixed

Gapps will still needed to be downloaded from the OP and installed.

Hello all. I just flashed the cm7 mod posted on page 11 and followed all the instrucions to a T and I still dont have mms on cricket service. I double checked all the settings in "open APN" and saved the settings. I have asked several people including my wife to send me mms and still have not received any

Hello all,

I just wanted to clarify some things here:

1) CM6 is probably the best aftermarket ROM for this phone. The reasoning behind this is because there's a smaller generational gap between 2.1 and 2.2 (obviously). For 2.3, I was forced to use a combination of 2.1 and open-source libraries. While the open-sourced ones are working well enough, the 2.1 aren't. Now, the Tapout Ascend has Froyo on it, so if someone can give me a system dump of that ROM, I could possibly make 2.3 more smooth on this phone.

2) CM7 is a far better ROM than CM6. In fact, I feel bad for even releasing it on this phone because most people don't have any perspective. You're using an old, POS phone. Obviously, you won't be able to have the latest and greatest version of Android running flawless on it. Cyanogen and his team have dropped support for older phones (ones that have hardware specs similar to the Ascend), so technically, I'm doing a disservice to his work because this phone will never run CM7 to it's full potential.

3) CM6 is a dead-in-the-water project. It just is. Even if I was to get CM6 working 100% on the Ascend, nothing new will ever come to it. Cyanogen has abandoned that project and I haven't seen anything new come to it in months. This was my reasoning for doing a quick port of it and leaving it behind. Pip2kk is currently maintaining it, but most of the fixes that are done on CM7 are backported to CM6. They just happen to run better in that userspace.

I understand that most of you are trying to make the most of your Ascend, but you have to realistic here. Just use whatever works for you. If CM6 is what works for you, use it. If you like CM7 on the Ascend, use that. For months, people would talk about 2.3 and how it was impossible to make it run on the Ascend. I just wanted to prove that BS wrong. Just 2 cents from the guy that ported both. :)

umm isaac I think you got your 6 & 7's mixed up in there ;)

And I've seen what you are talking about. Just with the themes for CM7 on the better phones look amazing lol.

And again I'd like to think you isaac for all your time and effort in put into this so we can get a taste of 2.3.

LOL, what do you mean?

Are you talking about the part "even if I get CM6 working 100%"? No, I mean CM6 ;) Trust me on that one. lol

But CM7, at its core, is just better than CM6. I have it running on my Optimus V and I can't believe how incredible the changes are. I'll never touch another Froyo-based ROM ever again.

ive tryed this morning to get the mms working i have cwm 3.0.0.5 i d/ld the MetrOFF.v1.1-MMS-[GB]-[CM_AOSP].zip file i beleive to be correct but i get an instalation aborted message when tryn to flash it it says

amend scripting was depreciated by google
in android 1.5. it was necessary to remove it when
upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery
please switch to edify scripting (updater-script and update bianary) to create working .zip packages
instalation aborted

does this mean i need a diff cmr if so where can i find it?

check you PM ;)

i think i figure out why it didnt work, did you put you apn setting in and backup rom?
nope I edited it to 'yourphonenumber' ;)

they still to edit the APN settings.

on last nights build release I had to replace the apns-conf.xml with the one isaac provided and then flash the fix again. Edit the username to my # and add 'metropcs' as the password n it worked.

For cricket users I think its good in the build.
