You're right. There are many ways to add overclocking to the kernel. I've explored maybe 4 or 5 different OC patches and the way I had it before didn't really seem to do much. It gave the illusion of higher speeds without actually being true. Over the course from March to now, I've used 3 different patches through the various builds. This particular patch is probably the one I'm gonna stick with.

If you know how to build the kernel, I actually have settings in the kernel configs to re-apply OC_chaos back to 748. It isn't on by default. In the future, I'm actually going to take it as high as 806 MHz.

You can see I've added to option to the kernel in this pic:

Thats what im talking about...1.2 ghz...yeah, in my dreams it gets that high..lol Good work isaac!!!
 
how do you flash the newest build of cm7 over another one? i have the one right when the video camera started working. i wana try the new one i just hate spending so much time setting everythign up again and installing all my apps and all. do i have to install it like a fresh rom or can you just go and isntalled the 3 zips together or can you just do teh cm7 one and reboot system. thanks

make a backup first, than download the new cm7 build and wipe data, factory reset, wipe delvice and flash...
 
I'm on new one.. Wiki said don't flash oc kernel it needs to be fixed last I looked.. 806 gonna be a gremlin.. If it causes this phone burn a hole in my pocket its been worth it.. First smart phone.. And you made it possible.. Im gonna donate..

They don't want to scrap the 80 processors so they brand them at 600mhz and sell them as such.

In the pc world, AMD, was known as the OCer's cpu of choice as they had the biggest range of Mhz speeds. If you knew how to read the serial numbers you could figure out what your cpu could be overclocked to. In the pc world we would water cool the cpu's to make them more stable and run at higher speeds.

The cpu's makers still do this today. That is why some of us can OC our phones faster than others with out having reboot issues. As you push the cpu farther without any other cooling it overheats and shuts down the device to protect the rest of the components. Overclocking a cpu with only stock cooling will shorten the life of the cpu. This is a known fact in the PC world of Overclocking. There is obviously no way to add a cooling fan or water cooling to a phone (that would be interesting to see though) so those of us who want to push the phone faster with OCing will have to deal with the reboots early on while we look to find out where we can, individually, ramp up the speed on our phones. Statistically, there will be few of us who will be able to run to the full extent of the cpu. Most of us will be able to OC somewhere in the middle. A lot of trial and error will be needed to find out where your phone will OC.

I publish this so that those of us who rushed to CM7 by Issac87 in hopes to push the phone up to 710 or higher and then moan and scratch our heads when we can't get there do not complain or blame the CM7 code for the problem. Issac87 is fixing code to hopefully get more of us to be able to safely OC our phones. He could put a fixed limit in the code and leave well enough alone but wants each of us to see how far we can push the limits. That information helps him as much as it helps us.

wat does it mean when my signal/wifi bars are grey colored when theyre usually green

and how do i stop the phone from hanging up whenever i press the sleep button :confused: tht shit is annoying!

if they are grey that didnt turn on right and also no bars once they are grey, but press the power key to put it to sleep instead of the end button if you are in a call.
 
New here, great ROM! Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with Wifi dropping in and out? I went back to the 05142011 rom and Wifi is now working correctly without dropping. Also, this is for a MetroPCS unit.

when you was flashing latest build, did you format data,system,boot,cache?

So this would mean that if you've got a "Lazy" Ascend your phone would be stopped at a lower OC now. I'd suggest trying each one from 710-600, Find one that works well and does not cause you mass reboots. :]

I noticed that now my phone runs at 710Mhz what it used to at 729Mhz on the previous build!

definately better performance.. Gotta look for how to condition the battery.. It needs a back rub I think lol.. Ran on smartass.. Havent been on it much and need to charge for the 3rd time..only data on.. Lazy battery lol

+1.. its gonna be funny on the news.. random phones blow up.. i wanna see true oc at 806 though.. ill do it lol.. that may be the pimp slap it needs to run at 749 lol.. i'd clock it at 1.2 and see if i could finish a beer before it melts through the counter lol...:D

i think your talking 0505.. if your closer you can look up playfulgod's restoring data thread.. i flashed 05 yesterday to see if iphone mms worked still.. i thought it did but apparently not lol.. restoring data caused me a lotta of fc's from that build.. process.multimedia i believe.. something graphics related.. anyways.. point was that if you stay up to date with current builds you can restore data and be ok.. it brings back all your apps.. even texts.. that may have been the best thread ive seen since toke's or jazz's how to flash..

i know the dark grey means no signal but i mean the whiteish grey

and i press the top left button by accident when im on the phone and then it hangs up
 
when i go to flash the newest cm7 build over my existing one, do i have to flashed the new gapss and metro off again or do i just flash the cm7, also after wiping EVERYTHING do i need to format or just flash and go. thanks guys, just a little confused the correct way of flashing over another build.

Notes

Certain apps will take down the system (major slow-down). While the GPS works, Maps will cause instability. Camera has the same effect. In order to undo this, simply lock the screen and unlock it. CM7 should return to normal. I'm not sure the cause of this, but it's a top priority for me.

Angry birds doesn't install correctly. After it's installed from the Market, go into Applications

you need to read the latest change log.

You will need to install gapps n metroff again with new rom. If it acts ok flashing over great, but it doesnt always work out.


Next build will diff need a full wipe.
 
Very happy with the latest build.
MY lagging after running common apps has ceased.
The sdcard is now readable as a Removable Disk on the one XP PRO (SP2) box I had problems with.
It's scary snappy running @710MHz, although I did have a single forced reboot at that speed.
Camera and Camcorder work very nicely now.
However, Barcode Scanner still won't run and it still kills the camera until a reboot.
While not a big deal, it would be nice to understand why this is.

I have two questions.
1. Flashed MetrOFF but could not send a picture.
While sending I received a Make more space on the phone message. Ideas or setting suggestions?

2. Are the splash screens prior to bootanimation needed, if not, can they be removed and how?
