Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

I finally got my card partitioned and DTsapps2sd working. I am very happy and extremely greatful to all you guys that helped me.:) I never thought I'd get my little phone the way I wanted it. I can't believe I have gingerbread now... Does this mean I'm an official Hacker?! :cool: lol!

My wifi issues were from within the build causing no wifi, bluetooth, or service. I figured a work around for that for the time being until I figure out whats corrupting my boot.img during compile.

other than that I've not had any issues with wifi or general bluetooth use.

new build up, the lil Ascend is on 2.3.5 now ;)

CM7-Ascend - Prepaid Android

will be available in ROM Manager here shortly too.

Sweet.. JUST got done installing 0727 though :-) there any major improvements in 7.2? Going for it tonight anyways I think unless there is another build tomorrow :)

Mostly under the hood stuff. This is the last build for awhile until I get my repo fixed except for maybe lil fixes if any fixable bugs are found other than the usual. I tested wifi, bluetooth, and the camera out and all those worked good. Well the camera did with the stock camera app, dunno if it will work any better with any 3rd party apps.

so far so good with everything I've thrown at it (haven't tried cam apps) and just so everyone knows, I've been able to get a gps lock under 10 seconds.. Never had cm7 and gps I believe.. first tried it with maps and it was a no go, tried the navigation app included and it found me, then google maps worked too.. Don't know if it was just a coincidence or not.. now my ascend is complete with this build and new class 10 sd card :) thanks!!!

Awesomeness Mommy! (yea thats weird lol) :D Im glad you got it working! There is a few simple apps for beginners that really rock that make the Droid experience alot better... there is a App if you dont already know bout it called PowerAmp its a music player. The Stock Ascend sux in the Loud dept if you ask me. This has EQ settings that allow you to turn up the Highs and Mids and it has a preamp that Rocks! Then there is a App called Cache Cleaner NG its good to keep your Cache and internet cleaned up so your phone wont get all Laggy. Fancy Widgets is a good free Clock and Weather app for your home screen. Enjoy your new phone! It! =))

Hey Travis was you having GPS issues before this build?

Thanks honkie? (Now that's weird):p lol. I have heard of those apps, I will try power amp. I have cache cleaner ng and beautiful Widgets. Do you know anything about the SD boost app? Is it any good? I'm really stoked about my new and improved phone, but I still have mad lag at times. The lags gets better after a reboot. Any ideas why I'm so laggy sometimes?
 
Perhaps this is just me...maybe i just have a pos phone that needs to be trashed and replaced....But the way i see it...i see everyone who has done this cm7 or cm6 bs to there METRO PCS HUAWEI ASCENDS...because i want to make sure i have the same phone...actually mod there shit...Yet no matter how many tutorials...how many downloads of CMwtfever i can find...i followed every tut to the T...tried every download i could try...NOTHING....I'm just going to assume i have the ONE that cannot be modded.:mad:

Well MommaDukes =) Your gonna love power amp you wont believe how loud your music will be. Bout the Sd boost...I use SD Speed Increase and set it to maximum and set on reboot...to be honest I dunno what it is actually doing but my phone never hardly lags so I keep it going. If your messaging app has all kinda messages it may help the lag..i set mine to only hold 100 then I will usually delete them before it hits that point. I dont know what kinda apps your running but some of them run in the background for no reason and it uses up your ram,,,u may need to check on the running services to find out. I believe CM7 shows "running services" in the app drawer..look to see how much free ram you have if you dont have alot then you will lag. If you have massive amounts of Home screens with widgets everywhere you will FO SHO get lag :(. Keep it as clean and simple as possible:) I use 3 home screens and got like 7 widgets total. One more thing...since you are using apps on your SD card then the type of SD card you have matters bunches. I would prefer a class10 but class6 will do. If you ave a class2 sd card that puppy is like in slow motion. =) all in all check your internel memory, your ram, and your sd card. And try to keep it as free as possible. Oh and try the Overclock settings this can help too! Its under Settings>CyanModSettings>Performance>CpuSettings...I like the OnDemand Governor the Min set to 245 then on your Max this can be tricky at times..try each setting to make sure it works for your ascend. Go up one at a time Mine is set to 710 and works like a charm but some cant handle that if you set yours to 710 and it works then click the box that says set on boot and your now Overclocked! If you are in CM7 you are using the ADW launcher i think that thing is laggy period. Someone Shoulda created a LauncherPro build. :D

ya its been rooted....I downloaded every imaginable copy of cm7 you can think of....cwm is 3.0.0.5 or some crap...i can't get that to change....everytime i install a version of cm7 i either get the little blue android guy frozen on my screen or its a red screen in which case it says ascend m860....either way i've tried every tutorial out there...there has to be something missing...a step, a file, something that everyone failed to post and or assumes that people like me know what to look for if it isn't posted. Trust me i've tried this process and its honestly taking me now to about my 4th day...and all i get is brick, brick, frozen, brick, blue paper weight...anything but an ascend that runs 2.3.4 any other version of android but 2.2. Believe me...ask me...i've tried...i think i got the one piece of shit that can't be changed...:confused:

Yea that sux...I dunno bro I would fo sho have to see your phone..But what is the status of it now? I think you should flash it back to stock and start over.

Download the Following Package:

1)Download package
2)Power Phone Off
3)Enter bootloader mode (While the phones off Press and HOLD: Volume Down then Call End Button then Power button) Hold each one of them in that order together. Your screen should be stuck on the Huawei screen.
4)Plug your phones usb to your puter.
5)Run script you downloaded earlier then choose the one that matches your computers Operating System
metroPCSStock-linux.sh
metroPCSStock-mac.sh
metroPCSStock-windows.bat (windows users)
6) Your phone will automatically reboot

Now if this works you should be back to stock. Let me know If it does. Then we can start from scratch. =)
 
I somehow found a file that i downloaded earlier today that restored/"unbricked?" my phone...managed to get it back to the out of the box state with the stock 2.1 Os...bloatware, etc...but it was back to day one...i think i rooted it and installed rom manager...yep...and i also have a versions of cm7 on my sd card...I have..

This is a list of what i have on my SD Card atm...theres no telling unless i screen shot it of all of what i have downloaded so far...but i can tell you this...theres definitely duplicates...I've rooted the phone first...installed rom manager, then i would use the CWM 3.0.2.8 recovery file...or so i thought..but every i flash in Rom Manager it just says that i'm using 3.0.0.5. I dont know if this is something thats holding me up or not but i cant get past that either so i just figured it had to be right...Either way i can go through all the wipes, cache, delvik, etc etc, then the formats, etc etc, at one point it does say that before wiping delvik that "couldn't mount E"...maybe my sd card isn't mounting holding it up? Anyway, i get past all that and depending on the version of CM7 i used i can either see a red screen with "Ascend" and "M860" on it or i get a black screen with a little blue "tron" style android. At which point now it freezes and don't move...i even left it to sit that way one night while i slept and it never budged. This is the same result i've gotten over and over again...atleast for about the last 4 days or so...i've tried and tried...NOTHING has worked...if i'm doing something wrong let me know. I would really appreciate it...but at this point its running Android 2.1 stock everything but the CWM Recovery is 3.0.0.5, and its rooted. I also have a back up of the stock out of the box 2.1 that is currently on here backed up.:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Ok, I just installed the 7.2 with a new class 10 card, it's been rebooted a couple times, and the only things I've installed are TB, SD-Booster, and Phandroid apps. I partitioned my card already, and see there is a bar at the bottom of the main screen of TB that shows a2sd storage now. Do I have it? I can't figure out how to move system apps to my card. (I tried the guide HonkieKong made up, but it just locked my phone up.)

edit: After trying HonkieKongs way, I got it to go on the 3rd try. I'd still like to know what you meant though, PG, and how to access the feature...
edit ver 2: Spoke too soon. It only locks up later. Drat.

Ok how did you root it? Did you do a permanent root? And that version of Clockwork 3.0.0.5 or whatever is up to date so dont worry bout it. I think you never created your Ext2 extension. So this is what I suggest to try..

1. Back up all your roms and your Back up folder under sdcard>clockworkmod to your computer.
2. Boot into recovery and go to: mounts and storage> format sdcard and let it format. (so you can clean all your duplicates and junk off it)
3. Press the back button until you see: reboot system then reboot
4. Go to Rom manager and press: Partition SD Card. Use Ext size 512 and swap size 32. Let it run. it will reboot.
5. Go back to Rom manager and go to: Download Rom.
6. Go to ROMs by PlayfulGod and install CM7.1-Ascend-7272011 (I know this is a older build but lets just see if this works then you can upgrade later)
7. When it starts you want to clear data and cache you dont have to back up your system cuz you already got a back up on your computer that you can use later if you have to.
8. This should bring you to CM7 if it works you need to install the latest version of Google Apps its in Rom manager to: 20110613 Universal.

This method is a lilttle longer then the usual but it is automatic and keeps you from having to work to much in the ClockWorkRecovery system it should work homie. I wish ya luck!

Well I'm trying to do all of what you said here since it seems as tho i did skip a very valuable step in the process....but now i'm stuck with the black and red huawei screen and i can't get my phone to boot into recovery mode...it just stays on that screen. Think i'm just going to figure out a way to get back to the 2.1....then update to froyo...and then leave it alone at that...because this is for a lack of a better phrase...completely and mentally ******ed to go through just to have a phone. I've been at this for 4 days and i'm no where close to where the hell i was after i updated it from 2.1 to 2.2....screw it...I don't see the need/reason to continue with this...Just there has to be a set tutorial...let people know..."this is how you do it" and put it all out there..don't skip steps...make sure everyones using the same build, rom, programs, etc etc,...because i don't know weather the hell to use amon ra or rom manager or what...this shit did nothing but waste time and cause confusion. Complete waste. Thanks for the advice and your time tho...But i wouldn't recommend anyone trying to bother doing anything to these otherwise piece of shit low end android phones....I would just wait for the Glory and leave it stock. Eff it.:eek:
