Root ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition

is there like a way i can i see all the pages of this thread? so its easier for me to find questions that are already answered thanks.
Open each page in its own tab? lol.

I don't know if this forum has options to set how many posts per page, but some do.

Also, damn! Root finally found. And five pages in 6 hours. Top notch.

Good work on patrolling these waters ocn!

not sure what you mean by no evidence. all sprint has to do is check if you have s-off. as far as unrooting goes. that is a good question. i wonder if unrvoked s-on tool will work or not. i think that it does.

I creep this forum hard. I read somewhere that sprint some how with this new update has made a way to show that it is rooted or has been.

Could definitely be that I misread it because I am a definite noob at this. But anything to make my EVO actually perform better. Just also want to keep the main use out of it, IE a effin phone.

so if i root with this now. and there are future updates how would i manage to get the updates for whatever if im already this process is rooted?

when I plug the phone in to the computer, Removable Disk (G:) pops up on my "my computer" screen. If i click on it to access the SD card, it gives that.
So you plug in, click on the SD option on your phone and still it says that?

I sometimes get that, and hitting F5 from My Computer usually takes care of it.

If still nothing, you can try a card reader and put the files on there that way.

Rooting will (can) make your phone run much better. Different roms and kernel combos work differently on each phone, and you can use great things like SetCPU to over/underclock the CPU.

There probably won't be any other Evo 4G updates, but (if i'm not mistaken) the rooted population had the GB update before the non-rooted population (and I mean the Sense GB, not AOSP GB). So don't worry about that. Tops, it'll be a couple days late. Tops.

that is ok as long as it is there and it is on the root of the sd card you are good.
so when I get the the black and blue screen which option do I select: reboot system now, apply update from sdcard, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, install zip rom sdcard, backup and restore, mounts and storage, advance or power off

select install zip from sd card. find the su file and select it.

so we are on #9 in the guide correct now? just follow it from there. basically you are going to flash su then make a nandroid backup and reboot and you should be done.
that what I was think however I keep getting the same message, and when I go to install zip from SDCARD i dont see SU

I got to the part about flashing the SU file, and then my phone went in to constant reboot mode (only shows 4G & Sprint, then reboots continuously). So I am trying to fix whatever happened and start over or continue with the process.

Ok, I had the back of my phone off, and just put it back on and now I can access the SD card. Please forgive me for being a NOOB, I am a converted iPHONE user.

I'll be rooting tomorrow.

ocnbrze- I just want to say you're doing an awesome job helping. I know it's easy to get frustrated and not help out the newbies in this field of stuff like everyone else, but your help is much appreciated!
