I'd try again. Also, you can right click on the dos prompt to get extra options (like paste, mark, copy ect). You could try again I guess. If nothing works, this release is a Dev release. So the public release is coming (probably just need a bit of fine-tuning).

(Interestingly, the devs said that the key is generated by your serial number, which is used to in the rare chance that a phone is bricked, and the public release will have no keys)

some one mentioned to copy and paste it in notepad and then use that to copy and paste into the dos window

I've heard good things about Fresh. I'd recommend just flashing a bunch to start with (and using Titanium Backup [free or pay] and SMS Backup).

There are a lot to try. You can stick with Froyo Sense, GB Sense, And AOSP for both froyo and GB.

Yes, I have Titanium Backup. I've been told to get that app. Why haven't I thought of SMS Backup? Smh. I'd use that one. Thank you again.

No problem. I've just got into using SMS backup (had it for a while, but never used it). It's nice to have all messages, in case you need to look for em later. It sames them as an XML file so you don't even need to constantly restore them, just if you want a backup.

Should work on Vista. There is no mention of it *not* working on vista.

I used this YouTube video to root w/Revolution. (I rooted my wife's EVO 4G and she doesn't know yet. :D and she'll probably never know as she is oblivious to this stuff.) This was from when it first came out but the directions are still the same. They flash the Revolution Clockwork Mod recovery here)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uresNXhrX4

Lol @ rooting wife's phone.

Yeah, I noticed that the root method has been in public release since version .3pre9 or something like that... does anyone happen to have a date for that? Couldn't find in on their wiki.

Anyone know how the beta key is made? doesn't look like md5....

I have tried to copy and paste the beta key on note pad and then to the dos window. But still no cigar. I ran out of options. Disappointed :-(

Well, if you've tried all the options, I suppose that's that. I guess you could try again later, and maybe you'll get lucky? But, again, this is Dev software, so you could post this in the 'feedback' section that pops up when you enter your serial number into their website.

Also, right clicking on the ms-dos prompt will allow you to mark and copy content form the dos prompt. Not sure, but that may help (I haven't actually ran the root)

ok i ran the revolutionary.exe file and the dos window just says waiting for device... ran it afew times and it still does the same thing...what do i do?

GOT IT!!!! I loaded everything onto my extremely old computer (still running xp) and not the 2 year old (running seven) laptop. GOLDEN! If anyone runs into this problem ALL of the drivers must install. If anything is missing it won't work.

Thanks everyone!

I just to say that I am a long time android user, but this was my first time rooting a phone. It was trouble-some but by reading everyone's problems I figured out how to do it. Thanks ocnbrze for the post! I waited along time to root this phone.

no problem no get your flash on:D

do you have the fastboot driver installed on your computer? also any anti-virus programs running?

Yup, Installed the drivers, no antivirus software...now i cant copy the beta key into the window...sorry,im as new at this as you can imagine. first time root, first android phone etc... thanks for the feedback and to all the people that worked on this exploit for so long. been waiting for this ever since new brand new FREE EVO (just got it like a month ago) and realized it came with 2.3.3

Try and highlight the beta key, right-click and choose copy (or do the ctrl+c combo) then at the top of the Revolutionary window, right-click and choose paste, it should accept it then.

I downloaded the one you posted in the open.
I've had 2 hard drives fail on this laptop and the last time it came back from bestbuy (I'm done with the geek squad bty) I noticed i have to actually select the external drive to open my SD card.
