Root ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition

I don't want to be a bugger, and that's certainly not my intent, but I really need help... basically, I can't get past step 5. When Revolutionary is supposed to be "Zerging"... whatever that is... well, nothing is happening. Actually, my phone is currently "Zerging" and has been for the past 10 or so minutes. I've turned off my antivirus and uninstalled several things, but I have no clue what might be holding my phone... "hostage". Any tips would be extremely welcome. Much thanks goes out to the devs and you all for the work done so far!!

wow. After a few trial and error mistakes on my part, this process turned out to be incredibly easy AND FAST:D. For a first time rooting a device i have to take my hat off to all the developers...awesome jobs guys!!! thank you

do you have the fastboot drivers installed on your computer?

do you have the fastboot drivers installed on your computer?

Yep. I had the drivers from the original stuff about a month ago, but I figured I might as well get the new stuff. Then, I uninstalled HTC Sync since it was keeping Revolutionary from running. Re-installed drivers again at this point. After an hour of failing, I've uninstalled everything and re-installed it again. So, as of right now, I have the drivers on my comp. I mean, my phone is being read...

and you are sure that there is no anti-virus program running on your computer?

I have avast!, but I turned off all the shields. They should be off for another 30 minutes or so... and I can't find a way to actually shut down the program without uninstalling it. Should I give that a go?

i'm kind of running out of ideas. how long to does it sit? maybe try it on another computer. what size card do you have?

Yeah, me too... I have a 16GB class 6 micro, and I currently don't have access to another computer. All the other comps in the house are for business purposes, and it's 5 AM.... Do you think this is a phone issue or a comp issue?

Edit: Oh, and it could sit for hours if I let it. Which I did let it sit for an hour at one point. Been working on this since 11 PM... no fruit for my labors... ugh...

None at all. Also, revolutionary can read my phone just fine. Tells me the SN, which I've verified with the back of my phone, so I know it's not just generating some ish... It just... doesn't "zerg"... whatever that may be....

EDIT: Well... I think I'm gonna turn in... seriously, oncbrze, thanks for all of your help. It looks like I'm just gonna have to wait a little while longer for this to work for me. I'll keep my eyes peeled for updates and the like. Again, thanks for your time. It was time well spent, good Sir.

Sir Oncbrze... That's fitting!

Did you flash the gapps zip that goes along with CM7? If so, go to settings>accounts & sync and you should see one for google to sign into.

Did you unzip the file by chance? Make sure it is still in zip format before transferring it to your sdcard.

Not sure yet about revolutionary but with unrevoked there were times where you had to do a factory reset to get it to start. For some reason there was data or apps that could cause it to not start up. Might be something to try here if you have not already. This will cause you to lose all your data though so use my backup pro or something similar to backup your user data if you want it saved.

So do you have to be logged in as administrator on computer would it make that big of a difference

Thanks

I don't think it would make a difference. Admin access on a windows pc usually is just for installing programs and such. To run something through a usb connection shouldn't be a problem for a normal user account.
