Root ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition

Can you please provide a link, please? Thanks

here you go:MikG - Downloads - theMikMik
v2.58:
Updated Adobe Reader
Unlocked more settings in MMS (securebox, block etc.)
New SystemUI with on the fly hide recent apps (long press on carrier, long press on a quicksetting goes to the settings menu of that toggle) (i wanna thank ihftp69 for the original works on these kinda options)
New music mode by One_love_420 to skip songs in any music app by long pressing the vol buttons when screen is off (works with htc, pandora, google music, etc.)
Full wipe is always recommended... for those of u that dont want to i will add a patch that will not include market apps or any data apps.

* i got used to having the tabs at the bottom of the quicksettings menu so by def thats what u get, i will include a mod to remove them also since u can swtich between them using the topbar.

Thanks again for the link.

Do I install this patch using the same method as any from the sd card, as you described to me a few posts ago? Thank you

Hi,

When I installed mikG2.7, everything looks good, but when I tried using my apps such as wireless tether and mybackup pro, it says that the apps need root access. Also it says "The application Superuser (process com.noshufou.android.su) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I have the Superuser icon in applications, and the system also says s-0ff.

I have already have rooted previously using Unevoked3, so I simply flashed the mikg2.7 and thought everything would be fine.

(I did not install the 2.8 patch)

What am I missing?
Ant ideas?

Please help.
Thanks

See this thread here about SU.

ps You might post your issues with particular roms and such in the forums/thread for those roms, so we don't clutter up the rooting thread with it.

Thanks Nick.
I will move the post to the area discussing the su.
Just an update, I downgraded and flashed the su to 3.02 and all is fine.
There is something buggy with FC using the su that comes with the mikg2.7 rom which was 3.05. Weird.

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

It's the app that's the issue, not necessarily the app + the rom. It's wide spread with that version of SU across all roms.

And you're welcome. :D

glad it worked for you. now go and get your flash on/:D

ocnbrze, all...

Great advice on here for those of us that are Rooting/Flashing virgins and find it all a bit daunting. I got my EVO rooted after a couple of tries, but now I wanna know one thing... How do I know which ROM and/or kernel to flash to?? My main goal is to get rid of the damned bloatware so that I can have some space for apps, as the ones that I use the most are, of course, the largst and have no SD card support.

Any suggestions? Thanks again for all the time put into all of this!

First off, you can install titanium backup from the market (free app) to uninstall those apps that you don't use.

You can flash any EVO rom, all of them (that I've tried) have the bloatware removed already (because no one likes any of it :D )

The kernel will do nothing to help with bloatware... my knowledge on that subject is limited, but they seem to only affect performance things like battery life, smoothness, speed etc.

Now I have a question: I just wanted to make sure this root method is for 2.3.3? I keep seeing people who got the update a while back report that there is no root method. Just wanted to make sure I had my facts straight before I directed them here :)

yes. if someone updated to gingerbread and their hboot is 2.15 or 2.16 then they need to use revolutionary to root their phone.

trying to root my phoen for the first time, i get to the step where u enter the beta key, i enter wat was given to me from revolutionary and it sayd the beta key is invalid bla blah blah.....
i've tried a dozen time, made sure every let and number was specific to was rev gave me and still no luck.....what should i do or where should i go for a beta key that will work?????????????

ok so i take back the post i posted up earlier, i took a hard look at what the error message was and it says that "failed to communicte with existing adb services" so now wat do i do????

Hello,

I rooted my EVO 4G, via this thread, and now I want to unroot (got the galaxy S2E4GT, and my mom wants the EVO)

I have followed the instructions on unrooting twice now, and everything goes right, but I still have S-OFF, here is the info in the recovery screen. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Why don't you just flash a stock rom for her and leave it rooted? Or flash a custom rom for her and leave it rooted?

It has a small chip in it, and she wants to take it in to get serviced. I tried to tell her put a case on it and you will never see it, but it is under warranty so she is going to anyway.

Ahh that makes sense, I guess. Sorry I can't help you much with the unrooting, did you flash the s-on tool?

interesting that you have 2.16 as your hboot.
what instructions did you use? is it from this guide? in when you try to get s-on, what happens in hboot? does it ask you to update?

Revolutionary crashes when is trying to install Clockworkmod? Is there another way to install it? Or Is there a way to avoid the crash? I include a screen capture of the crash...

go to the switching recoveries section of the guide and use amon ra 2.3 as your recovery then flash the su file.

no worries. let us know how that worked out for you.

Thank you, thank you, it worked. Currently restoring from Titanium backup. I did not know that you could flash Gingerbread from Froyo if you were already rooted, I unrooted my phone, took the OTA update and then rooted back. N00bness is a bad thing...:D
