Root ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition

it is for gingerbread, yes. also you can double check by looking at your hboot or bootloader. so power off (you may need to uncheck fastboot in settings/apps) and then press and hold power+vol down. at the top of the screen is your hboot version.

if it is2.15 or 2.16 then use this guide

if it is 2.10 or less then use this guide:

When you say
make sure that htc sync is uninstalled and also any anit-virus prgrams you have running on your computer is turned off.

you mean uninstall htc sync on my phone right? & if so how do i do that?
i may sound like a noooooob, but i just want this to work right & not mess up lol so sorry for the idiotic questions

&& i can't seem to press these buttons at the same freaking time. it keeps powering on instead of showing me what hboot i am -___-
 
For getting into hboot try turning phone off then pull battery wait a couple seconds then put battery back in and hold volum down and power untill it comes on and you should be in the hboot screen

htc sync and antivirus is on the pc you are using if you have them installed
 
it's stuck on the white screen with all that techy stuff wit hteh aondroids on skateboards at the bottom, it said My HTC was installed and yeahh. idk if it's done or not?
 
Ok so you need to select recovery in the h boot screen where you are now Then you will see another set of options and you select flash zip from sd card then you should see files that are on the sd card find the su file and select it and yes to flash. You use the volume up and down to move and the power to select. after you flash the su file you can reboot.

im there already but the su file isn't there. i think i messes this all up because i feel like theres no way i can put the file on now since i'm already so far into it. **** my lifeee :/
 
does anyone know how to fix this problem because i kinda have to finish doing this in the next hourrr......./: i need to put the su file on which i swear i did already, but i guess not. how can i install it when im at the revolutionary window on my phone......help !

In recovery there should be a option to mount unmount If you select mount then you can transfer the file now. You can also just reboot and put it on the sd card like normal. Then boot back into recovery by shutting the phone off and powering up with power and volume down like before and selecting recovery and flash zip .
 
Also you can close revolutionary u dont need it anymore as long as you have s off and recovery wich it sounds like you do. Everything you do from now on will be done in recovery.
