I had that problem when i first was doing that and it was because the phone wasnt compleetely shut down. I wasnt waiting long enough. LOL
The way to make sure is to just pull the battery and put it back in.

Sounds like you got it. Now i recomend you read the life after root section in that same thread before flashing anything else so you are comfortable trying things. also in the hboot (power/ volume down) your h boot should now start with 6.17 and it should say S off. If it does and you have the su app in the app drawer you are rooted

also the main reason why you could not get to recovery with power+vol down is becuase of the fastboot setting that gingerbread brought to the evo. most roms will have it unchecked but to make sure you can go to settings(and depending on the rom, it might still be under applications)/power/uncheck fastboot. now you should be able to get to recovery fairly easily. also some roms have the 4-1 reboot where you can choose to reboot to recovery, hboot, fastboot, or power off.

I'm so frustrated! I finally downloaded MikG 2.59 and the next day 2.60, Ugh! Love MikG though. Tried More and Aggressive Kernels and I don't think my Evo likes either. Did battery calibration. I have SetCPU on Smartass. I've been getting 1X instead of 3G, DOUBLE UGH! Did the port and proxy 0's. The darn phone is harder to "dial in" then my dad's Top Fuel Dragster!

Hey I gotcha first get ur MSL code, use MSL reader in market. Then in the dialar put in ##3282# click edit mode then go to EVDO go to preferred mode and change it to automatic should work if you have it in cdma only. Try it see if it works.:D

what also worked for me is to use notepad++. basically copy the beta key from the generator and paste it into notepad++ and then copy the key again in notepad. like frenchy said, then you go to the command window and click on the top left corner to bring the drop down window, select edit, then select paste. it actually took me 4-5 times before it worked. not sure why it does that for some people. but keep trying. it is frustrating, i know. keep us posted.

I would like to put my two cents in here. What i notice about this is that when this happens is because one they took the page off, minimize it or change tabs. Dunno why, but it does. It works best while typing in the cmd and having the revolutionary page in the background.

yeah i have even tried that when i had my issue that did not work for me. it finally worked with notepad++. not really sure why it worked, but it did.

Funny the way things work:D. I did that method and was not working for me so i just did it while the page was in the background and it work. EVO's are weird not and days. I tell y'all.

first off, ocnbrze, i want to thank you and everyone else for all the help. I am new to all this but managed to root my phone no problem with the guide...now im trying to learn more and get a better understanding of everything. Im trying to find the leaked version of gingerbread for my rom...ive been looking at mikeg but im not sure if that a good one or not?

edit: also I would like to get rid of the htc skin they put on the phone...does the rom take care of that? or is that just a matter of deleting an htc file?

the new lock screen and the icons on the bottom style is what im looking for...looks like the new ice cream sandwhich pretty much

Hope I'm not stepping on any toes by commenting. The guides are definitely the holders of all things root and I'm relatively new. That being said, I am running MikG 2.59 and I love it!! It has all the features you talked about and then some. 2.60 is out also and you can check the changelog for the differences! I really love this ROM!!!

thanks smitty.

so ive got her rooted and running mikg 2.59...pretty cool stuff so far, really liking it. any other popular mods that alot of people are using?

and is there anything else im missing...i havent partitioned my sd card as of yet...would i do that now or is it even nessessary?

and are kernels worth getting into? i dont know if im at that level yet

EDIT: say i want to change mods...what are the steps to doing that?
EDIT: and when you say keep the backups on my computer...just copy the folder from my sd card on to my desktop? and do i keep the backup still on my sd card?

sorry for all the questions :) just trying to learn

i merged your to posts together.

1. partitioning your card is not necessary unless you either run out of room on your phone or you are trying the larger sense 3.0 and sense 3.5 roms. sense is pretty big in size and those really take up a lot of space (there are a few like mik3d that you will not have to).

2.go here for themes and mods for mikg:
MikG v2.xx Themes, Mods and Tweaks. all you have to do is wipe only dalvik cache and cache and flash the theme or mod. there is no need to wipe data. just make sure to make a nandroid backup before flashing the theme. that way you can nandroid back if you do not like it.

3. kernels are way worth your time. they will help you with getting better battery life. here are some things you should read:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/389360-kernels-dummies.html

and you should also use setcpu app from the market as well. here is a guide for it:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/210253-setcpu-guide.html

4. as far as backups go all you need to do is move the nandroid backup to your computer. though it is a good idea to back up your sd card to it every once in awhile. your nandroid backups are found in (amon ra) the nadroid folder and (clockwork mod) in clockwork mod folder.

I've done all the steps & I go to the part where I was asked if ClockworkMod is needed , I said Yes. Then the command prompt says "downloading recovery for your phone <supersonic> ...done." the next line reads "Rebooting to fastboot" the last line reads "Flashing recovery over fastboot" it been stuck here for some time.

I have the white screen up on my EVO 4G as well is S-OFF

that is ok. go to the switching recpvery part of the guide and install amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery anyways. just download the amon ra file. rename it to PC36IMG, transfer it to the card, reboot into hboot, and select yes to update, flash the su file and you are now fully rooted.

I renamed it , transferred it to the card & do I start the Command Prompt at this point or do the "volume & power button deal"?
