yes you should be ok to root with revolutionary. just for future reference, you should never accept an ota when you plan on rooting. it will usually close the previous exploit and you will have to wait for the devs to find another exploit. but luckily this ota did nothing to the bootloader so you should be ok. just read this guide and all will be ok. plus you have this forum for support. please feel free to ask any questions that you have.

thank you gonna root soon kinda scared ill mess it up but im still gonna go for it will ask questions on here if needed will appretiate the help thank you again

don't be scared. it is really hard to brick a phone while rooting it. it is a pretty simple process really. plus you have us to help you out. let us know if you have questions or issues.

Sorry for such a lame question, but could someone please explain to me what rooting is and what the reason for needing to root your phone is? Thanks in advance!

A bunch of reasons actually. Type that exact question in google and I'd be willing to bet the first response will have all the info you need.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1.well rooting is basically unlocking the phone securities so that you have access to the entire phone without any restrictions from sprint or htc. it allows you to make changes to your phone. you can install custom roms and kernels to your phone.

2.you can install roms that have sense 2.1, sense 3.0 or sense 3.5 onto your phone. non rooted phones will only get boring sense 1.0.

3.the possibilities are endless with mods and themes that you can do to your phone.

4.you can get way better battery life.

5.you can partition you sd card so that you can fully move apps to your card and thus free up space internally on your phone. i have 160 apps all on my card with over 200mb left on my phone.

i could keep on going, but those are the highlights. rooting your phone is a relatively simple process to do, but i would do some research and see what you are getting yourself into. keep in mind that rooting is really for people who like to tinker with stuff. so if you want to learn about the process and stiuff i would read this:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. read it from head to toe before attempting to root. also ask as many questions here if you like.

ok i need help please im rooting my phone i did the sn# got my beta key ran revolutionary and its been on (Zerging root... this might take a minute or so..) for like 20 mins is this normal???? help please

once youre rooted and have a rom flashed can you use system updates? htc software update, update PRL, update profile, firmware update?

edit: also are all htc evo hboot 2.16? the new ones atleast?

I am unable to open the market. I have just recovered to the amon ra 2.3. from the clockwork mod. I was unable to access the market from that one as well. The home screen just flashes and that's it. What do I need to do? Thanks.

What rom are you on? Do you have GAPPS (if needed)?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
like 9to5 asked, what rom are you on? if you can go into your new recovery then i would try and wipe dalvik cache and cache and reboot.

I wanted to wipe my Davlik Cache and all Cache period just to clear it up. I have a feeling that it's doing something weird to my battery. Is it ok to do it even tho I'm not installing a new rom?

yes it is ok. dalvik cache and cache are just places for temp files to get stored in. they will not affect anything. they should be wiped periodically anyways. but for me i never stay on one rom for very long so they get always get wiped in the process of flashing. also it is good to wipe dalvik cache and cache whenever you get any errors, glitches, or anything unusual. it is always the first thing i ask when trying to troubleshoot an issue.

Thank you so much for your help! You are very helpful and knowledgeable!

For wiping general Cache is it "Wipe Cache Partition" in the Revolutionary recovery? I just wiped the dalvik cache

yes it is the cache partition. make sure that when you flash a rom that you wipe dalvik cache, cache (cache partition) and data(data/factory reset) in recovery. also make sure that you make a nandroid backup before wiping and flashing.

also i would recommend that you switch recoveries. amon ra has been proven to be the best recovery (also the amon ra style recovery which is new, people here seem to like it. i have not tried it yet). you can get it in the roms/kernel sticky.
