The adb shell isn't running. Try issuing that command again.

when i put the adb shell in i got the number sign why run it again
I see the number sign when you issue that command, yes. But then you got back to the command prompt somehow before issuing the next command. You have to be in the shell, not the prompt, to issue the command.

EDIT: I honestly don't know what the problem is. Maybe you should just use the HTCDev method for now. It works, and flashing ROMs is still possible with it.
 
do you think there is someting wrong with the sdcard not holding it or running it think i should change her card out fo rmine and retry it or shoul di reset the phone back to factory an try it
 
cuz i didnt have this prob with mine when idid it the only prob i had was it would not run the pc3 file i had to hepp trying it liek 20 time bu tit finly took

just dont know i doing every thing you guys hav easked to do

the c:\ prompt is an indication that you are not in adb shell anymore. see the difference?

and an 8g card is fine. the 2 means that it is a class 2 card. i was hoping that you were using a 2g card as the evos have issues with those cards. but that is not a case. so i'm at a loss.
