Samsung Fascinate Lounge

OMG I got my CR-48!! I didn't think I'd get one, but I did! UPS dropped it off tonight, and I couldn't figure out what it was. I was pretty sure I hadn't ordered anything, but with my memory, you never know. ;)

So far, I'm liking it. It's fairly limited, though. Imagine the Chrome browser, set to full screen. That's your OS. I'm still picking through the apps to see if they really extend anything. The tweetdeck app is pretty good, but I haven't found anything else that impresses me.

What it does, the internet, it does well. As a "netbook", this thing is a hit. I like it a lot so far. I just wish it did Netflix. :(

What's up everyone? Looks like I'm going to be riding the Fascinate train with you (at least until I figure out what dual core device might be in my near future). Got tired of waiting for phone releases and the saga known as the Mecha or Incredible HD!

Now...one more person to ask the question...where is Froyo? LOL

See you around!
You picked a nice time to get on the train as you wait for Froyo is likely just weeks instead of months like some of us had. We've got eclair pretty maxed to the gills. Jump to DJ05 and find a streamlined rom and a OC'd kernel with voodoo if you want it and it is a snappy device

Wow lucky you. Is this the thing you had to fill out the application for online and then had the 144 character limit on why they should pick you? If so I did it too but then I never win anything so oh well. Im glad you won though

Thanks saps! OMJ pointed me in that direction as well and gave me a quick rundown. Seems like the general consensus is "Okay...we're ready for 2.2 anytime now!" :D Sorry you had to endure this long wait...I hate waiting for overdue updates as well especially when you think that this device probably should have shipped with 2.2 (just based on release date). Now that the Nexus S has surfaced...2.3 is going to be the next waiting game. However that seems more like a step forward when compared to the leap between 2.1 and 2.2.

I thought I was getting the Droid X in October when I was eligible for upgrade but played with the Fascinate and was impressed with it (the screen is gorgeous)! I then spent a couple of months waiting on a phone that never surfaced  so I'm itching to get this device in my hands.

Vacation next week and new toy on the way! Things could be worse :)

Yay Kaessa!! I got one too.

I told my friends about it and they all signed up but none of them have reported anything yet.

I agree it sucks about netflix but my laptop is falling apart so this is def an early christmas gift!

I haven't found any apps that I couldn't live without, but I have browsed everything yet.

Just heard about this last night and applied myself *crosses fingers* And I've read people have gotten Ubuntu on it, you could dual boot and try that. (Disclaimer: I dun have netflix, and haven't tried it on Ubuntu, so forgive me if it's one of those "No you idiot, you need Windows" things.)

I thought the new Market was only for 2.2+ devices? I fired up the phone yesterday and had the new market.

I read about being able to dual boot, I'm excited about that but waiting for a little bit as more information comes out, it would be an early Christmas for my husband if I let him do that. lol
I don't know if ubuntu could run netflix but im sure they could find a way, we have a very old version on a very old computer that barely runs and when I got this I told my husband he could put ubuntu on my other laptop if he could find a way to keep Zune player running on it.

Also I got the new market today and launcherpro as well as a few others had updates, but when I went to update everything was fine except for LP, it wont update. Is it because im on 2.1?

i think you ll be happy with the fascinate once you've had time to tinker with it....and honesty jumping in later on youve cut a whole lot of wait time down in the froyo line :)

also join us in irc #samsung-fascinate...many of us hang out in there as well as all the devs for this phone

Yes, that's the one. I never win anything either, so I wasn't expecting to get one. I had no idea what UPS would be dropping off at my door, because I hadn't ordered anything for a while. I was so excited when I opened it and finally realized what it was.

I was in the same boat I was going to get the DX in August when my upgrade came good but the DX was backlogged till September so then I decided to wait a few days and try the SF in store on launch day. I was sold after 30 minutes of playing with both in store

Im happy you for but sad for me. Seems like everyone but me is getting this thing. Oh well. Enjoy.

Yeah its going across the boards even to 2.1 devices thats how RickS got it initially.

be warned you'll spend every other hour refreshing, I've been looking out for friends and family members and I'm generally interested in how many they send to my city so for the past week I've been on it like crazy.

Thanks here's what it told me

Sorry, no packages for you...

:(

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for ya, I've been trying to find out what pattern they're using, if their just giving them out all willy nilly, or spreading out to all areas etc. I did hear a rumor that they're trying to not get too many in one single area but pull up NYC and obviously that theory is shot.

In any case you still are in the running, don't give up hope!

Boss is looking to upgrade from a Motorola Droid/Verizon... doesn't like it because it's too slow and doesn't respond well. Screen dims while talking and doesn't come back up quick enough, etc. From the reviews, I'm considering the Fascinate for him. He was also interested in learning about a comparable Blackberry...

Any recommendations?

He's a low-end tech user when it comes to smartphones... but makes a ton of calls on it and has a lot of contacts in his phone. (We're also looking at switching things over to Google Apps for Education soon, so syncing will be important.)

Would love to hear your thoughts!

If he likes the form factor of the original Droid...Droid 2 Global (it's been beefed up)

If he has to have a qwerty keyboard but wants something different...Droid Pro (very Blackberry like)

If he doesn't need or want a physical keyboard and wants the best "phone"...Droid X (has 3 microphones - 2 of them are for noise cancellation)

The Fascinate isn't a bad choice but the motoblur on the Motorola phones would have less of a learning curve than the touchwiz interface that the Fascinate has. I just see the fascinate as a more "mediacentric" device. The Motorola products have always held a premium on phone quality as THE most important feature.

I'd take him to Verizon and let him play with the different phones. Personal preference is hard to gauge. Remember that if he doesn't like his first choice, he has 30 days to take it back and for a $35 restocking fee...he can get a different device (you can only do that once per upgrade however).

Well Tron 3D was a solid B in my book. I didnt read any of the reviews so I didnt know what to expect. Story was not quite what I had in mind but OK. Visually obviously it was pretty good. They of course left open the possibility for a sequel.
