Root [SCRIPT]DM for CM7/CTMOD [UPDATE 2/10]

Hey Monster, you should submit this over in the CM forums man.. I'm sure tons of people could use this.

I'm not sure but I don't think even the official builds suppot hidden menu..

and also you should take donations;)

sorry, now I see the link

I may, it looks like on some phone the enable file is in a different location. Not a big problem but im not sure on which models its with. But ive only seen it like that once or twice so i dont think it varies to any more locations. I could just make a 2nd script as well, no biggie/

probly HTC.... lol stupid microsoft... always trying to be different than linux even if it's a system that is buggy and breaks all the time :D

From my testing the "phone does not answer" issue happens with the new basebands.

1.) CM7 the phone shows up on the ports in Windows device manager. (and ports are able to be changed). But I still get the error. So there is hope that this can be fixed.

2.) EJ06 stock the phone does not even show on the ports.

3. EE13 ED14 works fine for cdma workshop

I have one of the original prevails

EDIT: Has anyone tried prl 00001? It would seem to me that it would ping all towers possible... Ideas?

The "phone does not answer" issue I think I have pinned down to a windows/driver issue. Using my laptop if I leave it disconnected from the internet and let it use the drivers that I installed it works perfect every time. If I have it connected to the internet and it finds drivers through windows update BS then I get the "phone does not answer".

I have no idea why windows looks for drivers online when it already has them internally but seen it over and over again both on the prevail an on my SII Epic 4G.

If I just remember to disconnect internet before plugging a phone in I never have issues. Can connect after plugging phone in if I need it but then remember to not dis-connect/re-connect while being online.

I'm a little confused by this. How do you know which PRL to use? Is there a guide or something somewhere?

:confused:weird it says failed phone does not answer any ideas :confused:

I've noticed that with CDMA Workshop 2.7 I often have to retry numerous times before it functions properly.. not just with the Prevail either, had same issue with Nexus S I recently switched over from Sprint to Page Plus.

I too keep getting the ... Failed... Phone doesn't answer in CDMA WS

I have an older prevail and have CTMOD 3.3 W/ BlueME Theme

I have run script manager in root mode, following all the directions.

I have also tried all the other fixes/tricks described above... different ports/hubs
connected to internet/not connected.. I switched ports around, and I ran CDMA as administrator too.

It will however connect and set a com port 2 or 4.. just keep getting the
" Failed... Phone doesn't answer"

Any help/ideas would be appreciated

No luck here either. Tried on a few computers but no luck yet. I have ordered a few different usb cables so we shall see

I realy think it's CDMA WShop.. half the time it doesn't work on mine either.. Sometimes I get tired of trying and just give up and go back to boost prl from settings.. anybody know of another program to change prls?

I have not been able to get CDMA Workshop to connect to my prevail no matter what I do. I have CM7 installed ;)

Not sure what else I can do this at this point.

Apparently there is another powerful program like CDMA Workshop but it's FREE. It's called QPST. Qualcomm Product Support Tools. Supposedly the prevail should work with it but I haven't gotten it to work either. This program can update PRL as well.

You can download the latest QPST 2.7 build 366 from here:
Updated(06-14-2011) QPST and QXDM - PPCGeeks

Note like I said I haven't gotten it to work yet. I wanted to post it in hopes that other people will try it and see if they can get it to work properly.

-------------------------------

This script didn't work for me. I did manage to get the USB to work though if you do it manually.

Root Explorer (app).

  • Navigate to /sys/devices/virtual/usb_composite/diag
  • there is a file there called 'enable'
  • hold your finger down on the file and select 'view in text editor'
  • change the 0 to a 1 and press the back button
  • it will ask if you want to save, press yes
  • your usb should enable now in DM mode.
  • to switch it back change the 1 to a 0

Now the script does this but for some reason it doesn't work properly on mine.

ill try it right now! I have been trying cdma workshop... with like 5 different computers with cm7 ctmod.. fa19 ej06 w/e Different usb cables.. yeah.. nothing works. I can only see the com port and "successfully connected to com port" then "phone does not respond" I will not give up till my PRL is changed.. even if I have to change it to 00000000000000

Yeah I'm going to try different ways to see if I can get it to connect correctly. It does detect the com port but the phone doesn't seem to communicate.

Yep, I have tried with 3 different usb cables. Set the baud rate to 38400 in Device manager. Tried every COM port possible. No luck so far. It just says Enabled COM1 No phone.

Maybe this is a driver issue? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Samsung USB drivers without internet connection. No luck there either. I will continue to try different variations just to keep sanity.

Just used Odin flashed back to ejo6 entered dm mode. no still no good phone not detected. Port does get enabled tho.

Oh crap! im onto something!
Got pissed off.. drank some monster (green)
Accidently booted into CWM haha.. so i figured i let the computer install the drivers..
Installed to COM port 8!!
DETECTED on QPST while in CWM. woohoo. lets see if this works. =) progress!

Okay. The PRL took. 60685 =)
So pretty much I restored with ODIN back to Ej06 with cwm
Dialed ##7678#
msl
selected the DM thingy
Power + volume up till CWM came up
Connect phone to computer
Drivers installed look up COM port.
Fire up QPST follow the directions in the tutorial.
And its done. Phone reboots.
This was done by trial and error. I cant make sense of it. but maybe it is a driver issue after all?

o.O maybe something can be taken front this and included into the script =)

maybe. just maybe.

You could add it to the script easy. at the bottom of the txt type reboot recovery after the enable part. Then save it

Oh neat so QPST worked for you? Nice to know that I was able to find a good alternative to CDMA Workshop. I think paying $100 is absurd for that software but that's just me.

I'm not liking the fact that I may have to ODIN back to a previous baseband to get this to work.

Which tutorial did you follow that I posted? BTW a thanks (using the thanks button

)would have been nice ;)

Hadn't tried it myself but would this work with ctmod 3.3? Switched PRLs yesterday good thing it was a lazy Sunday lol

There are two menus I have to go into to properly enable DM mode over USB. One is the ##7678# menu. But does this script also account for the setting in the ##8778# menu? The one in the 7678 menu will reboot the phone once changed.

The 8778 one is required to make the phone show up at all in CDMA/QPST and does not reboot the phone when changed.

But the other one that requires reboot may also be needed if one is getting errors in QPST about the phone not responding to read/write commands anymore. (though it will still write new PRLs correctly, you just have to reboot the phone your self to get the connection back on the new PRL).

There's two settings to change and I've only seen people mention one setting that the script changes.

CDMA has always recognized my phone just switching to DM with ##7678# but its on COM17. I went through a ton of PRLs before settling on 60683. Never had any issues with CDMA recognizing my phone. I originally got the driver when I bought easytether
