Sideloading coming to the Inspire :-)

so I downloaded the superoneclick application and I am curious, I keep seeing "Do NOT mount sd card" ... so.. do I plug it in as charge only? or do I plug it in as disk drive and unmount the sd card? also.. do you need the drivers to just get the temporary root? I'm so confused :( I tried google and youtube but I'm just not getting it .
 
Either AT&T customer service dept. are beyond slow mentally or they are just covering something up....i just spoke with them and i mentioned the whereabouts of the OTA sideloading update to allow my inspire to DL 3rd party apps....their response was referring to the last update we got in april to turn on the HSUPA and other features. This is stated to be the last current update smh...these ppl are so dumb to be employed in a communication and technical field....this update is all over the NET as we speak but they claim there's no such thing...smh...this is crazy lol
 
I'm surprised they didn't just tell you to hard reset your phone. That's their #1 fix for any issues you call about. What's that? Didn't get or having a problem with _________(insert reason for call), I'm not sure why but have you tried a hard reset?

The tech support chat people know of the update, but the people I contact on the phone never know wtf I'm talking about. The tech support guys will try to manually push it to you.....didn't work for me though

i spoke to somebody from the tech support chat just a few moments ago and she said that they don't know how to manually push the specific update and directed me back to the customer svce by phone with their contact numbers lol....it's a joke with all this back and forth convo with them...i've wasted enough time talking to random dummies or maybe not all of them know of this update(which i find very hard to believe)..if it magically appears unexpected on my phone then it is what it is...

yes i tried a hard reset...a reboot and the whole 9 yards lol...still nothing:cool:
 
I'm trying to ignore the "rooting the phone" route and just go strictly clean(sarcastically)...after all the years of being a JB maniac with the Iphones...but it's calling me lol

Set the connection to "charge only" once you've plugged your phone in. And yes, I believe you do need the drivers. They can be easily had by installing HTC Sync.

I remember seeing someone at XDA try it, and they said it didn't work. So, no, I don't believe so.

Thanks. I went back and looked and saw the same post. I tried the SuperOneClick method myself and side loading does work. Bummer though, I'm looking for terminal access and to remove bloatware, neither of these are provided in the method used in the link above.
 
I cant get it to work :( it is stuck on waiting for phone, but I dont have the drivers, but once I get the drivers, what do I do with them? lol is there an instruction guide for this? I looked over on the XDA thread but I didnt see any real instructions for the technically-challenged!!! I would love for somebody to put a step by step up.. like step one.. get drivers.. place them here... step 2, plug in phone and do this and that... lol I would love you forever :)
 
5/25... still nothing.. getting ridiculous. its been over a week or something?

You can still remain clean if you use the temporary root method from the other thread I linked above.

You root the Inspire, enable sideloading, then reboot which removed the root but keeps the sideloading. It really is wonderful and you can't even tell that any rooting has been done (well, other than having sideloading enabled without the update, but who's nitpicking ;)).
 
this started on the 16th.. and its the end of the 27th and I still haven't received this update. I don't get it at all. what's so hard about releasing this in a timely matter? two weeks of waiting on monday for me.

I said in another comment that at least I have my Flyer tablet. I've already installed Amazon App Store on that. its nice having the sideloading option I will say that much
 
I didn't get my update till yesterday. I had to call customer service, talk to the first lady that had no clue what I was talking about, and get transferred to tech support. The guy pushed the update through for me, but it still took two more days for me to receive it. Now, I am happily using swype, got the full version of abduction 2 for amazon's free app of the day, and bought eternal legacy from gameloft.
 
I got tired of waiting and did the temporary root ...still haven't received the official thing...wondering if I still will because of the temp root...i don't know how that works..
