Root Significantly improved batt life

Thanks for the info....been looking for a good kernel and this one does the job quite nicely. Been using the phone all day and I am not even at the halfway point yet.

hey hey!! very nice!! i was hesitant to start this thread as many battery life threads and up in a quibble with some people bragging about 47.3 days of off charger batt life(riiiiiight) and others crying about 36 min, and then the ensuing death of their device. Exaggerations, i know, but funny nonetheless lol this one seems to be at the very least eyebrow raising :D

uhhhhh, my cam has always worked.... did you wipe cache ald dalvik cache? if not, do so, reinstall your rom, then the kernel in the same recovery and try it again. if youre on the cfs, give it a run for about 6-10 hrs and if you have good batt life... well thats sweet lol, if not do the wipe process again and try the other one... apparantly my device likes its brain to be f**ked on schedule.... or something.... ;)

is there any other ROM u kno of that would work good with this kernel also?

was testing CM7 yesterday with the kernel, got the camera to work and everything was going awesome, loved the battery life, till later at night my phone just started to go SLOW on me, like really slow i couldnt type at a regular speed cuz it would lag lol. which was weird, i tried rebooting, and the phone would even just turn off on itself, im guessing i wasnt meant to be with CM7 lol

That's odd. I had some issues similar to that on the old, old versions of CM7 before Wimax was put into the nightly builds. That's too bad, it's a great ROM.

I get 470,000 hours on my battery, since I added the Ironman arc reactor.

Edit: I can't seem to get images to post. Am I missing something, or am I just cro-magnon man?

how long are you waiting for the upload to complete? are you clicking the insert image button? or perhaps on your evo on the phandroid app? are you doing a headstand? dunno what that would have to do with not being able to up a pic, but uhhh..... im still gonna ned you to come in on saturday to finish up those tps reports lol

mmmmm yyyeeeaaaahhhh, ok. yeah... we lost a few people so I'm gonna go ahead and have you come in on sunday too.... thanks Peter.

On a side note I do have that song Still as my ring tone right now! :D

I was someone who would read peep's posts saying how battery life they would get and I would think to myself, riiighttt... because I couldn't get anything close.

UNTIL, I tried the savage kernel 1.6. My battery life is just insane since plugging it in. Pulled my phone off the charger 10am Saturday morning and at 11pm Sunday night and was still at 32% battery. I have never gotten anything anywhere close to that type of performance. With what I would consider moderate use, wifi stayed on all weekend, phone calls, texting, some GPS use, and a couple hours forum browsing through forum apps. Nothing extreme, but I didn't have the thing setting idle all weekend with all data turned off. This is pretty awesome.

Will the savage 1.6 work with CM7? I'm about to try out the stable version but I was thinking I would need another GB kernel?

Right now I'm using the froyo version of MIUI 1.3.5.

If someone else knows better than I but I think for cm7 you will need a GB kernel, either a tiamat kernel or a GB savage-zen 1.0.1 or higher.

there isnt a GB/non-gb kernel akshully... its sense/aosp CM7 is aosp and the formal version of GB is sense, so their kernels are incompatible. MIUI is also aosp (typed it as "soap" first... just struck me as funny) many of the savage kernels that ive seen are aosp, and im not sure if they make both or just aosp kernels. anywho.... who cares about sense anyways? LoL im just kiddin sense fans :)

sense fan here =p. but i wanna go to an aosp rom cuz of the battery, but i wish i could keep all of the sense features lol witch cant happen ofcourse. im using Myn right now, its workin out good so far, but once i get bored ill just switch to aosp and use the savagekernel like u told me and give it another try =p

ps. hows CyanogenMod nightly #37 ROM doing so far with u lol,why not the latest one #41

The only thing that made me ok with ditching sense was launcher pro plus widgets...

Ill get the most up to date when the time comes. Since I didn't do it this weekend HOPEFULLY the final release will be done by this coming weekend....

Just a heads up about the battery, yesterday I learned just how much of a hog 3g is. I did the same type of usage but all on 3g yesterday. From 6:30 am to 11 pm, and battery was at 37%. Thought it was good to get a full days worth of heavy-moderate use, not to be confused with heavy usage (don't know if that is a classification but I just made it one :), and still have plenty left in the tank.

this. turn off 3G. only turn it on when you

1) are not on a wifi connection
2) need to check email, use the browser, or use an app that requires a data connection

Set up a toggle for 3G on a homescreen so that it's easy to turn it off and on. There's no reason the battery needs to drain when your phone is not being used. Since 3G is a radio, SetCPU screenoff profile isn't going to do squat about 3G battery drain.

And remember, you can still use the phone and send SMS messages without 3G. These activities never use 3G even if it's on.

Novox77, thanks for hitting on that point. It's kinda what I was getting at but didn't just come out and say it.

I figured out early on that if I keep my data on while my phone was in my office, were I barely get any signal, that I wouldn't have enough battery left at the end of the day for a couple of beers at BWW.

Excellent point.
