make a folder on your desktop and copy all content on your sdcard to the folder on your desktop, than boot into recovery and format the sdcard from there.

Are you on 2.2 update? or 2.1 update?

then use ginger break, look in the "All things root" section at the top
thanks but what happeens is that im new at this so i dont know how to do all the procedures see my girls ascend its really slow and it has too many apps that are really crappy i just experimenting and learning how to root androids i root my evo and it was amazin till y kill it trying to flash a rom but i took it to sprint and because the couldnt turn it on they just givme a new one wich im picking it up on friday and i will rooted that one too but for the evo i have a step by step guide but for the huawei all i find its z4root and is not working at all

yes z4root does not work/functions with the new update of the huawei ascend, but sorry i don't know that b=much of ginger break cause i had no situation to use it but look up on google whats ginger break, here is the apk to that app : MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

its that easy, and then install the app with a file manager and open it up and root itthanks im actually backing up the factory rom just in case the wich rom you recomend is the best for this device or i can just download one an run it ?exactly

Okay thats good to do, and i recommend you to use cm6, which can be found in the thread "ultimate customization ascend", i love that ROM because its just like 2.2 update but 10 times better, i use to have cm7 but i found to many bugs such as MMS camera issues and stuff.

theres alot of bugs in that rom but at the same time its really good. Like this app "Little photo" doesnt work, and such

lol i told you, and reboot to recovery, take out battery hold volume up and call button and turn on, and flash to stock, from your backup and now try cm6
Ok, first time poster here. I was all set to root a phone for the first time in my life... then this damn update came out and apparently z4mod doesn't work with the 2.2 update that just came in (go me!! grrr)
So, to root my phone now, I just download that GingerBreak-v1.20.apk to my phone and run that, and I'll have a 2.2 rooted phone?

Like the Boingo Wi-Fi, loopt, pocket express, and all the metro apps. Ive only had the phone for a month and these apps always open and interrupt everything and makes the phone slower and kills the battery. I'll try anything as long as it doesnt mess up the phone. I have it for metro btw

I've tried that, but it doesn't seem to work now that I have 2.2
I'll select the option 'permanent root' and it just goes back to my main screen like nothing happened. Is there another way to do it?I'm going through metroPCS btw.
Why is easy WiFi on the do not delete list. I see where it could be helpful, but you don't need it as the phone has its own wifi function. I deleted it off my Optimus but was wondering if there was some kind of reason to keep it on my wife's Ascend
